It is interesting to read the comments on jointing, also to see the time that it takes! I am being taken to court by the power network for damaging a cable that was only 300mm down in my garden. It was only the supply to next door but they are claiming that the jointers took over 30 hours to put in £70 worth of material making two joints. They also want 14 rest time! This man on the video must be quick!

Whilst doing my electronic apprenticeship n when I qualified. There was a bloke called Peter Bradshaw who I worked for (who owned the company) n he's done everything from extra low voltage 240/415V all the way up to 400kV.
His company did cable pulls and terminations, which I thought was really interesting n I loved it! 😁 Even though you need to be "strong like bull!" to properly manhandle those massive cables. But then again it's something you'll get use to and become stronger over time.
There's definitely a nack to it, which you'll pick up over time n people with show you.
The only HV (even though this is called medium voltage) I've ever did was 11kV on tranny's n switch gear n I loved it. Never pulled any in but I've pulled in cables a lot bigger n heavier than HV. It was normal modern up to date cable, which must of been XLPE.
If you want to do cables like this. You'll either be working for an electricity board or working for a company doing terminations.
Those are pretty much the only two choices you've got if you wanna do this for a job.

The video was made a few years back and the joint has been updated a little since. However, the cable prep advice is still very valid. A joint like this would take about 2.5hrs. Yes it was done in an artificial environment and at a nice height. On site especially in the UK, we don't show the pouring rain and very muddy conditions. Just uploaded a new video if anyone can spare another 20 mins of their lives

I guess you're still aloud to touch lead without gloves and breathing apparatus
