Wow, without travel insurance and the airline and the public bail you out. That’s darn lucky. It’s amazing to me that people risk traveling without insurance. I sold travel insurance for 5 years. You wouldn’t believe the stuff that happens. This family is very lucky that people stepped up to help. Count your blessings. Condolences to the family.
My brother in law’s roommate also died while scuba diving in Mexico decades ago. It was a brain aneurysm. He was in his 20’s. Super shocking! My condolences to this family.
@@annawell2517 They should have had MEDICAL COVERAGE! Who'd ever leave their province w/o proper medical coverage so that everyone else has to come to their rescue because they weren't responsible travelers? For anyone to suggest that being irresponsible gets chalked up as, poor them as if they're victims is hogwash!
This is why travel insurance is important. People never buy it because they think nothing will happen. It’s for the unexpected, situations exactly like this.
Insurance is a MUST! Cut my f leg in Mexican resort last year. The mexican Doc applied stiches and charged $500 CAD. All my money I received back from my insurance company. God bless them!
When I vacationed with my Mom in Mexico, she ended up choking on a piece of chicken. A piece of it lodged in her esophagus and she had to go to the hospital for it to be removed with an endoscope. She had the best doctor and anesthesiologist! Everything handled efficiently and professionally. She had to pay the $5000 bill on her credit card but thanks to travel insurance, she was refunded 100%.
I am so sorry for your loss and all the difficulties with trying to get your Dad home. To have people help you by raising funds warmed my heart. I hope you have a support system until you can get everyone home, and afterwards as well. Take care. You have my sincere condolences.
I feel sorry for her as I suffered two heart attacks and two heart surgeries in Mexico 2 weeks apart . The bill was $105,000 to get me back to Vancouver with a medical team from Florida . I arrived at YVR and went into cardiac arrest yet again after 32 days in a cardiac unit . The saving grace was buying the Lords of London travel insurance . I never leave home without it .
Travel insurance, have always been that person who has made sure our travel/ health insurance covers such eventualities each and every time we have traveled. Just like household insurance and property insurance, it's up to each of us to evaluate the degree of financial risk we are willing to take. We have even needed to postpone travel due to medical travel insurance exclusion clauses. Beware. Be informed. It can happen to anyone.
Come on people!!!! Protect your investment ! NEVER travel without travel insurance with medical coverage - ever ! No supplier has to refund you a dime. They just don’t

i'm glad that a past pneumothorax in my left lung prompted the doctors to tell that i can't ever go scuba diving in risk of tearing it again because of the oceanic pressure. totally fine with that
All scuba apparatus have two regulators... Alps you never dive alone, regardless if you don't have a partner there is always some paired with you in these dive trips.. I have a over 50 dives in Mexico.. Never was I ever alone with out some one. Sad what happened to this man... But the question is WHY... It should have never happened... You never have trouble breathing and both regulators are independent.. Perhaps he has a health problem... 😢
I have heard so many stories of people on vacation going out scuba diving and dying, I hope they figure out why this is happening and educate the vacationers
@@robinblades600 Screw that, there are tons of stories of people just going snorkeling and dying as a result, especially while on holidays. The ocean isn't a forgiving place.
I went for a dive in Australia with a group and had snorkeled plenty but never dove. I got down a bit too deep and freaked out, felt claustrophobic and panicked.... Anyways, if I had started in a pool with proper lessons, would have been a different story. Some people might experience shock and die from such things, just a guess, but was a real shock for me.....
Funeral cost was $7K. But they raised over $16K in donations. Does it mean they actually now have more money? And Westjet is giving them a free return ticket in addition to the refund for the spouse? It is a nightmare to lose a spouse, but the financial story here is different.
She has to stay there, incurring expenses every day while she takes care of all the bureaucratic necessities. All that while grieving the loss of a lifelong partner. All you’re thinking about is the small amount of money? There’s a term for people who completely lack empathy.
@bengt_axle …. Your comment not only lacks compassion for this grieving family, but, are you also accusing them of running a ‘scam’ ??? Please, if nothing else, do try to be a ‘Better’ human being 🙏🏼🙄
@ I know I guy that died in Hawaii scuba diving. What is your point? Mexico is a cesspool. The fifth largest employer is the drug cartels. They have substandard regulations for everything including diving. If you spend money in Mexico doing anything your money trickles into the hands of the drug lords. If you are trying to argue travel in Mexican is safe you can stop.
Look how dark the circles are on this poor girls face. No sleep and stress after such a loss. It's heart breaking

$7K for a Mexican funeral home!? For cremation….omg…price gouging this poor family.
Something is not right. The average cost of cremation in Mexico is 30800 pesos or $2156 Canadian.
If you think they wouldn’t do the same thing here to people from out of country, think again. It’s greed and no remorse for anyone 😢

Never ever scuba dive alone
What an unfortunate way to go...sorry for her loss..
It is both sad and heartwarming at the same time. Kudos to the people who help this family through a rough time. May they find peace.
God bless you and comfort you ❤
Get insurance before you go every one knows that! It’s too bad but I hope they have learned a lesson?

No Medical Travel Insurance??????? No sympathy..
Always get travel insurance folks !
I feel so bad for the family and hope he brought his own regulator, not relying on the rental.
Aww :(. So sorry. Good on WestJet too. Very helpful.

Why would anyone ever willingly go to Mexico?
We have to pay for your mistakes
condolences to the family. how nice that you could afford to travel while most canadian are struggling paying rent and food.
It would have been appropriate to stop at the condolences.
Some people are still wealthy enough to travel

Where the heck is the news for Jan3? Are you going to stop posting reliably?

dont everyone get travel insurance?
Mexican funeral home? Awe :( she wasn’t able to bring his body back ?
happy new year still somehow?!?
What’s with the black eye? Punched in Mexico?
That’s what happens with extreme grief and no sleep.
@ damn :(
Nice shinner
Manners much….thats extreme grief and little sleep.

🙁
Why are we hearing about so many people having scuba diving accidents while on vacation???🤔
same reason so many people are dropping dead on planes; change in air pressure stresses a body that's been poisoned by experimental drugs
And My deepest condolences to the beautiful couple and to their family in this time of Sadness 😔. MAY GOD GIVE THEM THE STRENGTH and FAITH TO Go ON.
its dangerous to go after a flight. body still decompressing or something. go to water activites 3 days after a flight.
@@guesswhosbackg6616 thank you, that makes a lot of sense

Are you actually inferring there was some type of financial gain here? A whopping $9k, at most.
Sick.
