Downclimbing Odin's Eye 8c+ | Adam Ondra

- Let's make a bet for a new camper van! I onsighted this route back in 2012, so I am confident I can downclimb it as well.
Flatanger cave is full of absolutely classic routes. Unfortunately, I have already done them all. While working on Project Big, it is kind of annoying not having any other easier route to climb (except for Nordic Marathon and super hard projects) and repeating the routes I have already done is not the same feeling. But what about being a bit more open-minded and climbing the classic route backward? Like, I mean, from the top to the bottom. What about the classic 8c+ called Odin's Eye? Your climbing partner doesn't believe and makes a bet?

Adam finished the game and is now playing all the side quests :D
Facts
His char is OP
He’s trying to get 100 on all his stats
The whole time I thought this poor guy would actually buy Adam a camper van! I wanted Adam to make it, but I also didn't want to ruin this poor man's life! Brilliant video.
The gap between Adam and a good climber is uncatchably expanding. We are all spectator in his universe😅
It depends. Climbing is not only a difficulty grade. Is Adam the best sport climber? Probably yes.
Is Adam the best climber in the world? Probably not.
@@diegotarallo2918 there is no comparison, he is the best.
@@diegotarallo2918 only in the eyes of deluded climbers Adam is not the best climber in the world.
@@maximedelmas imo at those levels, the differences between the climbers are so small, that has no sense in arguing who's actually the best. He's considered the best mainly because he has a huge media coverage. Does that mean that he isn't? Maybe not. It does just mean that the majority of people don't even know the other strong climbers
@@maximedelmas only fake climbers think climbing means only sport climbing. 😉
You obviously never tried solo or trad, cause it seems you don't know how important are psychological skilsl when mountaineering.
Keep on screaming about grades and numbers, like teenagers with their penis 😂.
I’m feeling tired today, I’m just gonna down climb 5.14c
Yeah same /s
😂
:-D :-D :-D
That feeling when ondra uses your project as a party trick.
bro just disrespects projects professionally
I love that Adam doesn't seem so serious like he does in competition. Loving the stuff on RUclips.
I’m tired and conditions are not good so I’ll just down climb an 8c+ today 😂 👌Legend
can someone edit it and play it backwards? xD
I just watched it backwards - it looked astonishingly normal, just sometimes he had this superhuman, effortless, magnetic-like surges upwards... :) And once, he first clipped his rope and only after that he put the draw into the bolt... :)
Been practicing downclimbing for quite some time and called it brownpointing because it usually happens when retreating. Adam finally acknowledging the ugly step children of the climbing community with has daring decent warms my heart! More power to brownpointing! Shoutout to Ronny D. Downclimb, the king is dead but not forgotten! 😂
Endless possibilities with your new van! Put it on the shelf or let your kid play with it 😅
Crazy! 😀
The king of Flatanger
Did he "flash" the downclimb? 😂
Watching Adam Ondra downclimbing is still more interesting than watching speed climbing...
It shouldn't even have the name climbing in it.
@@xxxxxxxxxxxx_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Speed climbers still climb, even if it's a shite sport.
Watching a downclimb is almost more interesting just because you never see it.
Sport climbing is more akin to 100m races, and I don't understand how people can be unimpressed by it. A tight race keeps me on the edge of my seat, and climbing that wall in under 5 seconds is an amazing feat. Honestly, I find competition sport climbing more boring than speed, as much as I love to watch Adam and others outdoor
@@lui5gif The main reason I so dislike it is that it was crammed down our throats. Nobody wanted to watch speed climbing, yet they forced us to endure it by making real climbers do it in order to get to the Olympics. If it had not been forced on us I would not dislike it, but on the other hand I wouldn't even know it existed.
I wish more climbing videos were so chilled. Humour is one the most important bits when you are on a long trip. That and on your copmanions. There rest will fall in place :>
Check out Sean Villanueva if you haven't. True humor and climbing legend :)
@@user-fw9nb6pk9m I will thx
I like so much, that Adam speaks Czech in videos, because I can partly understand without subtitles, with my Ukrainian language ❤
You say I fell, but I say, it was a down climbing dyno
Hahaha, perfect!
3:11 is a funny shot
9:36 elbow rest, my favourite survival technique (in 6a+ territory 😅)
adam makes the best vids
This fella is the LEGEND!
Such a great example of motivation management! Being able to create a side project when they were none sparked a great opportunity for creativity and self-determination! This is the pinnacle of intrinsic motivation!
Unreal. Is it the same grade downwards 🤔. Makes it look so easy up or down. Brilliant
Adam I love you videos they are very high quality keep sending!!!!
This is already a legendary video. Instant classic AO.
If you were wondering, what it would look like, if Adam Ondra climbed Odins Eye the normal way, than here you go. Please enjoy :)

Havent even watched the video fullly yet but Congrats on the Van!!!!!
He just wants to finish the game 100%. Well done, Adam 💪💪
Love this, its so insane! But also how happy you were for the camper van!
I had the biggest smile watching this.. loved it.
I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!!! I WAS ROOTING FOR ADAM TO WIN THE WHOLE TIME ON PINS AND NEEDLES AND THEN HE GIVES HIM A HOT WHEELS CAMPER VAN!!! NOO NOO NOO. U GET YOUR DAMN FULL-SIZE CAMPER VAN. IT WOULD BE AWESOME ON BOULDERING TRIPS!
so fine that you are having so much fun, when beeing pumped..... love this video, incredible what Adam is able to climb (down)! nice camper van!
Mind blowing! Rooting for you to climb project big soon🙌🏽 so eager to watch that video
Nothing like showing the chumps that their chumps!💪🏻
Way to go man!! So crazy to see what’s possible!
Keep inspiring keep pushing!💪🏻😎
Awesome! Thanks fot he content, and for inspiring. Amazing
I find downclimbing so interesting i would watch it at the olympics (and don't mind if you do more of it)
same here, I was wandering if it will ever become a thing. It is definitely more interesting than speed climbing.
@@Biondo30Hz what isn't?
I love this less serious content after a while, nice to see that side of Adam
Sorry if this sounds pedantic but that was an exciting piece of art. Just beautiful.
Thanks for recording it at 4K and sharing with us.
Is this the hardest downclimb?
probably
Ever.
The Dawn Wall pitch 16 (The Loop Pitch) is also 8c+/5.14c. And it's a pure downclimb to avoid the 5.14d Dyno.
@@zennydoo doesn't it go backup to rejoin the climb near the same point after the dyno?
Well I think a really hard slab would be quite challenging too
"Climbing backwards": I somehow expected Adam to be descending upside-down 😅
That would look epic! 😂
Same here 😂👆
Few years later (with french accent)...:)
Now I want to see him climb some hard route with his back to the wall.
Another competition or bet may be climbing with one hand, instead of two. 🤔🤷🏼♀️....😜
Downclimbing something that hard is wild. Awesome to watch.
Up is only half-way! Been waiting for this exact video for years! Get down!!!!! Was just talking to Dad about my confusion as to why I only see scared beginners down-climbing. Its more impressive if you can come back down! And useful too..
I like! Good to see a fun video from Adam. I would have a beer with you Adam, plenty of celebrity climbers I wouldn't want to socialise with.
What an awesome video most climbers would never attempt this
Such a cool video!
insane!
Haha fairplay you should play it backwards and see if it's anything like you climbing it from the ground!! 😂 great effort adam 👏🤜
Amazing! Please upload a reversed version of this video as well!
Skvělé!
Incredible
Adam is just doing sidequests at this point
Conclusion: never bet against Adam.
5:54 that structure is magnificent
That's the route's namesake-Odin's Eye.
@@thatonefeller3375 Yeah, I was guessing that from the commentary. Good choice!
Good job
Never thought I would see Adam racing for pink slips
Incredible!!! Wow!!!
great new van
When he casually downclimbs your project
Also, when someone half your age campuses your project at the indoor gym 😂
@@wsxgfhccr aaaah kids at climbing gyms make it look so easy, always x)
Awesome
The toy car that saved a friendship.
Wild video boooooy ;)
Watching this makes me want to learn Czech
Super!
really good
3 Degrees of Separation next Adam. That’s the real down climb proj…
Climbing downwards should be the next official genre/type and f climbing at competitions.
👍👍👍
Cool!
Great Video und fortunately, it was a mini camper van to buy GG
Like a boss
Lovely
that climb reminds me of some Escher picture for some reason.
How'd you log it on UKC? 😂
I’ve been saying for years the next climbing frontier is competitive down climbing
Can it really be considered a side project if you get the down climb on your flash attempt? 🤔
Anyone know what the entrance song is called. That’s kinda fire 😂
I can go down both from the end of silence and project big, but I have to choose only one because the plan is go kump from the chain haha.
beauty
introducing the newest addition to the climbing lingo: up-and-downs (or down-and-ups I guess)
Is that the hardest route downclimbed like this? It's such an interesting concept for exploring a route.
aha that was great
Now we want Silence backwards
Bomber anchor 🤣
Where is your next trip to? Because wherever your going, remember to pack as much as possible as that camper van has lots of space
flash pump or flesh pump?
someone please upload the video in reverse :D
I need a ride asap
would be fun to watch it in reverse now
❤❤❤
Did you start out protected only by one draw? 🤯🤯🤯
But what would you grade it???
Liked it very much!
Dislike for click bait, though.
NICE Downclimb 😅
Isn't this actually dangerous closer to bottom? Stretch of dynamic rope on such long route surely would allow ground fall from ~10m? Or was that static rope?
Probably static because it is a top rope
Just as any other climbing, once the ground is close, you always have to pay extra attention and it is usually the most dangerous part of any route. The dynamic rope has a lot of stretches, but on the other hand, it doesn't definitely stretch more than a few meters. And if a few meters of stretch would result in touching the ground, it would not be ground fall, but just a very controlled and slow touch of the ground. It is more because the route is so steep and the ground goes slightly upwards, you have to pay extra attention on the swing and clip enough bolts as you downclimb.
Adam
Ole bicho
Wait does this mean that adam is back working on Big?
It's something when you can have six separate flash pumps in one pitch.
would you still grade the downclimb 8c+ ?
I don't have any statistics regarding what the hardest downclimb is. I would like to note that a grade upward doesn't necessarily have to correlate with a grade downwards. In the case of Odin's Eye, downwards is probably slightly harder, but in some other routes, it could be the other way around. A few routes that I downclimbed in my homecrag, would usually feel a bit harder downwards.
Adam
Amazing! Thanks so much for your reply! :)
Now we gotta know, what was harder!? Up or down?
Je u nás pár lidi v republice se kterými se nechceš vsázet o věcech protože to je prohraješ.... a pak se někdo vsadil s Adamem Ondrou o lezeni... to je jak se hádat o jaderných elektrárnách s paní Drábovu. :D
jumping off the cliff seems to be a much more consistent way
