IIRC Richard asking Locke to choose the object that belonged to him is indeed meant to be related to reincarnation, and similar to one of the tests of how the next Dalai Lama is chosen. And regarding "They didn't indicate any of this is season 1" about Locke and potential destiny, in S1 Locke has a couple of convos with Jack, where he says he believes the Island was special and how it can't be a coincidence they all survived and were brought this special island for some unknown reason. He says he thinks it's their destiny.
I see that Locke had not been paying attention when Ben told him about the Dharma purge in Season 3. Ben never admitted to Locke that he had been responsible for the purge. Ben had admitted to being originally part of the Dharma Initiative and rejecting them before the purge happened, in order to save his hide. Who gave John the idea that he was special? The Chosen One?
And the problem with Zara is that the new person is spoiling things. Zara doesn’t want to come off bad and say anything. Didn’t want to say it but we were all avoiding it. I too was enjoying the journey. You have to know what you can and can’t say as a previous viewer. “He was apart of the OG others.” slip had me so upset. LoL. I must hate punishment cause I’m still watching to catch the slip ups. It’s part of the game.
Go back and watch 3x23 again. In the first 2 minutes Zara talks, smiles and laughs more than she has in this entire season so far combined. Completely different person. :(

You have to watch with almost no “pre”emotions. And saying, “I love this part.” “I love this episode.” Just hush. Let them talk. I watch now to see if she improves. So far…no go.

Same - mixing the ingredients on the couch has altered the reactions IMO - she doesn't get excited to see Sawyer anymore :(

He should have selected the Book of Laws....aka Old Testament, which was given to him in "What Kate Did" , when they found the missing piece of film.
