  • After having installed a new Android head unit to the Corsa a couple of months ago, I was now able to also install a reversing camera which would link to the unit. In short, what I did was:
    - Identified the rear light power wire and the ground wire from the rear-right light block
    - Spliced the 2 wires with a CAN power filter, in order to provide the camera with a clean 12V supply
    - Installed the camera in place of the right number plate light block
    - Routed the video signal wire from the camera all the way to the head unit via the driver-side door sills
    The radio unit is www.aliexpress...
    The camera is www.aliexpress....

    Hello, I have installed the backup camera just like you. I have the same setup. The first 5 times it worked great, after that the video frame from the backup camera on the screen shifted to the left a few centimeters. I can't find any settings to adjust the video frame shift. Do you have any idea how i can fix this?

    • @TheMissingBolt
      @TheMissingBolt  2 года назад +1

      That's strange, honestly, considering that the first few times it worked fine. Have you tried disconnecting it from the Android unit and reconnecting it? Are all the wire contacts solid (including the one to the back of the unit)? I don't have any left or right-shift options on my unit either, so I'm not sure if this is something that can be solved through software...

    Hello. I apologize in advance for the bad English. I wonder if the original display above the multimedia works for you? I have a big screen from full equipment but I want an android but I would like my factory display to work as well. I hope you will see this comment even after 5 months from the publication of the tutorial. If there is a possibility to contact you on another social network I would be grateful.

      Hello! Yes, the display above the multimedia works fine with the Android unit that I got. I was also worried about it at first, but it turned out to be no problem at all. The only minor inconvenience is that in order to change the time, for example, you no longer have a physical button, instead the Android unit comes with an app that allows you control the upper screen.

      @@TheMissingBolt Hi friend, can you please tell me how that app that allows to control the upper screen is called?

    • @sw00nda84

      A little bit late, but it may be helpful to some people: you can code the car via Op-Com to make it seem like there's no radio installed. After doing that the "music" tab in your screen is going to dissapear and "settings tab" is going to show. You can then access the settings via the steering wheel controls.

    Did you have som problems with radio not turning off when you take key out?

    • @TheMissingBolt
      @TheMissingBolt  Год назад +1

      No, I've never had this issue with this Android unit. It always shuts down about 1 - 2 seconds after I remove the key.

  • @Txb4g
    @Txb4g 10 месяцев назад

    In my car when I put the reverse gear, the radio already knows and looks for a camera, so I suppose I do not use the reverse light but the camera still needs power I assume. I need to check because in the manual there's a "reverse video signal+" cable apparently, which do the job.
    The main issue is I still don't know if I want to get the camera because I'm not sure I'll use it. Do you use it all the time for parking?
    PS: In Italy we just hit the car behind. 🤣

    • @TheMissingBolt
      @TheMissingBolt  9 месяцев назад +1

      Indeed, one camera wire is for the signal but the other is for power. I didn't want to take power from the radio unit, I thought it simpler and safer to take it directly from the light bulb. Having said that, in our case at least the camera has proven to be very handy. I know about the Italian habit about slightly bumping the car behind, I think it's really funny 🤣 ... but here in Romania, people don't take kindly to that sort of thing, unfortunately... so parking sensors and a camera are really useful!

    • @Txb4g
      @Txb4g 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@TheMissingBolt in the end I decided not to get it. I don't want the hassle and I'm getting in and out of complicated situations without issues, so I don't think I really need it.
      Also we park so close to each other over here that a camera or sensors can't even help. Like sensors would beep all the time and the camera would be too close to see what's happening.

    hi i have one question do you know sa if it possible to change the layout and icon specially for the clock from analogic to digital and also reverse.thank you

    • @TheMissingBolt
      @TheMissingBolt  Год назад

      That clock icon is a widget which is provided by the Android system running on the display unit. You can remove the clock widget and replace it with any alternative that you like better. For my particular unit I don't remember seeing an analog clock widget (i.e. a round clock with dials / needles indicating the time), but then again I never searched for one. Given the many widgets Android has available, there's bound to be one with an analog clock too.

    Did you install the android Auto yourself? If so, would you have the instructions for it?

    • @TheMissingBolt
      @TheMissingBolt  3 года назад

      Yes, I did install it myself, though at that time I wasn't making RUclips videos. I don't recall having any instructions in the box the unit came with, though the setup is very straightforward. At the very minimum, there is one large cable bundle that powers up the Android unit and which connects directly to the wiring harness of the car through a large dedicated plastic jack. On Corsas that have MP3, you also need to connect the USB cable from the car to the dedicated USB wire bundle for the unit. Typically, all wire bundles in a good Android unit should be labeled individually and you can't connect them the wrong way since each jack has a unique shape. Lastly, you should connect the GPS antenna, which is a single shielded wire that you need to route from the top-front of the dashboard (so that it gets good GPS satellite reception) to the back of the unit - this one has a threaded coaxial jack.

      Yep, it happened to me as well on a different occasion. You can either buy them from an Opel / Vauxhall dealer and expect to pay 2 - 3 EUR per piece, or you can try from AliExpress (tinyurl.com/yc2knzjv), where they're much cheaper and may be just as good as the originals. For reference, the OE part number is 2228839.

    • @TheMissingBolt
      @TheMissingBolt  11 месяцев назад

      From what I remember, the option to switch from static to dynamic was a special wire on the camera itself that needed to either be cut or not cut in order to put it in dynamic mode. I left ours on static. I haven't seen any special option in the navigation unit's settings to enable / disable this feature.

      @TheMissingBolt thank you. I know some cameras come with that option to cut or not cut wire but those dynamic cameras are a but dogey, it should be built into unit and work with the steering wheel thanks to canbus but I think these units just don't have it built in on the option. Thank you for reply.

      The unit comes with 2 USB ports. The first one is for MP3 sticks etc. and I've connected that to the factory USB port of the car. The second is for wired Android Auto / Apple CarPlay and has a dedicated wire that also comes out near the 12V socket.

      @@TheAbrunqaj Yes. The factory USB port continues behind the dashboard with a cable that ends with a miniUSB jack. You need a USB-to-miniUSB adapter here which you can use to connect either of the 2 USBs from the Android unit to the factory USB port.

      @@deepakkakkar7698 If you're using an online navigation app, such as Waze or Google Maps etc., you do need internet data access to keep the maps updated. There's no way around it. You can use alternative offline navigation apps, with static maps that you only download once - these won't require a SIM or phone connection during driving. But they also don't give you traffic updates, don't update the route based on the latest traffic data etc. The navigation unit itself does allow for simultaneous music and navigation, so it should be close to what you need.
