I can't believe we went from a time where sampling was King to a time where if you aren't making your own melodies from scratch you're nothing. And the funny thing is the types of people doing this rarely have any music of their own on their channels. Some people really do have no idea about how hip hop originated and grew.
Well the sample bashing came from the fact that most people these days just throw the sample in the DAW, not changing anything to it at all and just adding drums. Back in the day niggas would chop up a sample and make it different, but its whatever

Most producers who use loops that aren't theirs are at least altering it enough to be pretty unrecognizable. I do see value in stockpiling melodies though. If I'm having a good day with inspiration I'll bang a bunch out at once and save the midi incase I wanna use it as is or add variation. But honestly melodies are my least favorite thing to do. Drums and banging out samples is way more fun. I just got my first MPC (the X) last Thursday and I'm thinking of getting back into sampling once I learn how to fully work this thing. Definitely noticing a huge improvement already from FL studio and I've only had it 4 days. I'll probably post some videos once I get a little better at using this thing. I haven't used hardware since the early 2000s. I was starting to feel like a damn robot making music in FL studio. Got sick of all my beats having that modern trap bounce. Every time I hear a beat that was made in FL studio I can tell instantly because most of them have almost no groove. People try to argue that they can do all the same things in FL that you can do in MPC. I'm like, yeah no. MPCs swing and quantize algorithms are completely different from FL studio as is every DAW, machine, or whatever. Every product processes things differently and it all boils down to personal preference in what you like. But I can guarantee, if I construct the same exact beat in MPC and in FL studio there's going to be a definite difference. I'm talking clicking notes in at the same exact timing on the grids and using the same plugins and all. I'm not saying it's going to be a massive difference nor am I saying the average listener would even care. It's all about the vibe the individual producer gets that really matters. Now that I ranted back to the original topic. If producers are using loops from other artists they're working with, that's cool. some people are just better at making melodies and some are better that making drums. Just like some people are better at writing music and some are just better at performing. As long as everyone is getting paid in the end for their contribution to the project, who cares? I say get that money however you can in this game. Why do you think Dre was so successful? Because he knew how to orchestrate a bunch of people who were good at very specific things. That's really the success formula for any business. Napoleon Hill talks about this in both the Law of Success and Think and Grow Rich. Two fantastic books from a dude who made tons of people wealthy by sharing what he knew but unfortunately didn't know how to follow his own advice. Lol But the way I see it there are lots of great basketball coaches that couldn't play basketball for shit. Lol Anyway, I know I wrote a full book here that's probably hard as fuck to follow, but I hope I provided some form of inspiration and opened your mind on different aspects of how music production works. I mean, if your just talking about bashing producers for swiping samples and not giving credit, than I get that 110 percent. We as indie artists and producers need to get out of this everyone has to do everything mindset and find and group people together that are good at specific things. This is how mainstream productions work and it's why they're so successful. It's also why Strange Music (an indie label) I'd so successful. Fuck all this fighting and bickering. Let's all work together towards something greater and end mainstream music once and for all. It's going to happen anyway down the line. But we have to fight to take full advantage of it. Otherwise the same bullshit is going to happen all over again with a different mask. It's already happening to some degree. Anyway back to learning this new MPC I go.
