Interesting question. Our elected government gave this quango the power to dictate what you can see, read and hear. Currently there are no serious candidates available to vote for who say they will open up the media space to free speech... it is just not a priority issue for most people... yet.
So technically, ofcom has a democratic mandate because it was created by an elected government (New Labour) and has been supported by successive elected governments since.
Our managed msm is failing, but the big story is how governments around the world, and depressingly, ESPECIALLY in the west, are legislating to clip the wings of soc.m.
Free speech was always curated by msm until the rise of tge internet. The oy paloy got a taste for self expression and the free and frank exchange between ourselves.
Now control over speech is being wrestled from the ordinary people by our governments. This will result in revolution if they don't wise up pretty soon.
The truth is the comfy establishment are made to feel very uncomfortable by agitating oiks like you and me talking to each other.
Free speech is our most important freedom.

GBnews has current conservative MPs and there are rules on how they can present themselves on TV as political shows have to have a balanced approach, GBnews does not follow the guide lines set. These guidelines were implemented to stop parties avoiding funding scrutiny especially during elections. If the BBC have Starmer on the same show as Sunak was on with same format would you be saying it's OK if it's no then GBnews was wrong to do this as it's not balanced.

People hear spout Bias by the BBC which are investigated to.
The BBC tries to be to neutral and un-bias meaning when one party crap out they still have to find a crap story on the other main party.

Agree totally GBnews should have be fined and sanctioned ages ago, for the complete bias and contravention of broadcasting rules with current MP/PMs on the channel. Free speech is fine but news channels and MPs have rules which GBnews and its owners float, its a politcal right sided channel and supposedly loses money each year, which leads people to believe its a way of avoiding political funding rules to backup reform/conservative values.

That show was not biased. I have seen far worse on the BBC.
The only problem with the show is that there were no follow up questions. That did allow Sunak to get away with a certain degree of nonsense.

But the show with Sunak was NOT biased. I watched the whole thing. The questions were not easy in themselves. The flaw in the programme is that follow up questions were not allowed. That let Sunak get away with things. But the programme itself was not biased.

Well...the Tories, eagerly assisted by Labour, did pass the censorship bill breaking the fundamental principles of Article 10 of the ECHR.

GBN is about the only news outlet that has many points of view.
It seems to me that that particular show was all about asking the MP questions that Sunak doesn't get asked at PMQs, so why should it include Labour? I suppose had GBN invited Starmer onto a show for him, GBN would be hauled over the coals for the audience asking tough questions as well.

GB News is superb. It gives us stories in-depth and straight that other media does not. BBC, Ch 4 etc shows much bias, we see that every day. OFCOM needs to go.

Ofcom allowed Jeremy Kyle to stay on air for over a decade after a complaint was made about the ethics of the show which resulted in people from the show committed suicide, so that says something. Ofcom are very selective at which program is flagged or which broadcaster is punished. Their goal is ultimately silence critics and stifle creativity within film and television.
GBNews is clearly more impartial than any other news outlet available to the people of the UK and has a wider range of views from its presenters.
I think maybe the employee`s at ofcom need to be investigated to check if they have received any large payments of late. Maybe they have a business that has just benefitted from extra financial help or will do in the near future.
GBNews are just too close to the truth, that is the reality of ofcom`s threat.

What made me laugh is the comment where Ofcom said "it’s not the media who decides who’s in government but the people." The whole reason why people have made the move to GB news is because the BBC and sky News along with vast swathes of the British news media have been doing just that for years without challenge. 😂 that’s literally the very thing that people are sick of that has been happening and everyone knows has been happening for as long as anyone can remember.
Every time there is a competent member of Parliament that goes anywhere near the home office they are immediately shouted down as a bully because the civil service who can’t bare any level of scrutiny immediately call their friends in Fleet Street et al.
It’s not a right versus left problem either because they did exactly the same to Jeremy Corbyn as they’ve done to Tories when the media have decided they did not like someone.
The problem is with the established news media in the United Kingdom as it is no longer the guardian of truth but an enemy of truth . Say what you will about GB news but it was the actions of the other news channels that created the conditions for it be brought into being.
Ofcom should shut GBN down immediately. They repeatedly ignore the terms of their broadcast licence and make no attempt to meet journalistic standards of balance and facts that are required for all broadcast media. This particular show made a mockery of impartiality. If they want to carry on being the media arm of Reform UK thats fine….but go on line only then because the UK rightly requires higher standards in broadcast content.
