Iowa Northern Butler yard and Trinity Rail drone view. BNSF grain train with DPU!

04/16/2022 Shell Rock, Ia. The Iowa Northern has a good sized yard near Shell Rock called Butler yard. The Trinity rail car repair shop, ethanol plant, and the new soy bean processing plant help give the IANR a lot of business!
04/17/2022 Cedar Falls, Ia. This unit BNSF grain train was a good random catch. These unit grain trains seem to pass through Cedar Falls about once a week and usually have a DPU! I'm yet to see a CN train through Cedar Falls with DPU power.

I always enjoyed Dan Sabin's Rock Island tales in Classic Trains magazine. His steady hand and vision have turned the old BCR&N Rock Island main into a humming transportation corridor. Congratulations to all involved in this enterprise. Great video once again Red!

Thanks vicodumb! Sabin has done a lot for sure. I recently read an Iowa Northern article in a railfan magazine. He's done a lot to expand. I like the fact that he revived an old CGW line and the Rock!

Thank you for taking the drone footage in Shell Lake, Iowa at the Iowa Northern's Butler Yard and the Trinity Railcar repair faculties next to Butler Yard. The construction of the soybean plant was interesting to see. That BNSF unit grain train on Easter Sunday 2022 at Cedar Falls, Iowa was a good catch too. Love the videos red the drone view of Shell rock was great a lot of activity in that area . I have not seen a DPU on a CN train either i will keep my eyes open for it

I was in Shell Rock maybe 10 years ago and I don't recall any big grain plants. The president of IANR was looking to incorporate containers from the UP but it was to be tied in to a transload facility. They do line containers with plastic and cardboard and ship soybeans and then off to china and Japan. Thanks for the overview of the plants and yard

You're welcome Paul! Most of the growth around Butler Yard happened recently. That's interesting they line containers for grain shipping. I wasn't aware of that.

@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 the transload and containers facility was to be in Manly. Keep in mind with the weight of grain the container is only loaded to roughly waist height and is most likely soybeans. There are some areas of Idaho and Washington that ship wheat the same way. Earlier this year they said there was a container shortage for sending grains back to Asia but your view from above says otherwise

Great video! Yeah they drop containers there and then deliver them to ppl laces around, like Cedar Falls. Now they don't have to come in from Chicago or Omaha.
