How is it possible ,this lady steals money and gets 20 years and a man ,who abused his niece for 10 years ,after her mom passed on when she was just 4....only gets 4 years in prison and is let out of serving his full sentence. How is her 20 years sentence fair ,compared with a much more henious crime of abusing a child for so long and hardly serving his sentence.

In TEXAS your labled a sex offender even if you have never touched a kid, if you pee outside ( hiking trails) etc and a kid was in the vicinity, someone saw too much of something( although women do this all the time), downloaded porn in a pkg but a few photos were underage(but you saved the pkg before viewing) I helped run a after prison ministry called no turning back. Texas ruins peoples lives and they have to register for life. People because of tv drama will call them pedaphiles and none of them have ever touched a child. Last thing on their mind. By the way 98% of child sex offending is done by a family member or well known person of the family. Stranger occurance is very rare so you don't need to look out for people labled offender you need to be looking at who hangs at your house and relatives. I have a criminal justice degree plus psychology so ive learned all the facts.

Blessings to this woman for sharing everything, her regrets, the awful consequences of her actions, the effect on her family....what a likable woman and I am grateful she's out and has been able to continue her life. Murderers get less than twenty every damn day. I am so against prison time for non-violent offenses. The problem is that United States prisons are privatized (a crime in and of itself) and every prisoner (ESPECIALLY all those - and there are thousands - who commit non-violent offenses) bring in a pretty penny from the federal government for each and every head that gets locked up. It's a totally sick and broken system. The fact that she kept getting rejected for parole year after year despite it being a non-violent crime and after being a "perfect" inmate all those years until she finally loses it, loses her hope and starts acting up IS WHAT THEY WANTED TO HAPPEN so that they could keep her in the system and collect the money. This process of rejection keeps the money flow going. This is a fact.

I guess it just depends on who you know and how much influence that person has with the prosecutors. My half-sister stole at least that much money from a nursing home she worked at as the Nursing Home Administrator. She was married to a Texas Game Warden, and he apparently had some kind of sway with the prosecutor. She was convicted of embezzlement, and her punishment was to repay the money she stole. She received no jail time or fine. They are allowing her to repay the stolen money at about twenty-five dollars a month. Even though she's a convicted felon, she is still able to live around and own guns because of who her husband was. She has also stolen money from my mother for years. She seems to get away with everything.

I feel like the US is obsessed with incarceration. 20 years? Imagine how many tax payer dollars we would save by imposing other punishments , like community service or something else that benefits the community. I think 30 days in prison, 2 years parole, community service and restitution would have been adequate for a first time offense like this. Also, 34 days in solitary for comforting a crying inmate. Are they trying to harden these criminals in that prison system?? I can’t believe we are paying tax dollars for excessive prison sentences and to make criminals even worse people.
