    sounds better, check the plug it will give you a lot of information on how it's running. Did you set the air screw? Warm it up and turn the air screw all the way in, back it out till the idle picks up. If it is more than 2 turns out go leaner

    Sounds like my husbands 1997 YZ 285 with a Smartcarb. It rips !

    sounds much better , i added a APEX head and SX insert and adjusted the air screw to just over 1 1/2 turns out as it wouldn't idle and its perfect for me , i also added a 51t rear .

    I'd drop the pilot to a 45 and go up a size richer on the main jet to compensate the change off the bottom end.

    The midrange sounds rich (needle) when off the throttle it pings a little (lean) pilot may need to go back up. First lower needle (clip up) also try it on a long flat area, put some tape on the throttle housing w/4 lines & grip w/one @ the first mark on housing run @ 0-1/4, 1/4-3/4 & 3/4-full throttle checking plug & response at all setting it’s time consuming but will give great results! Or a oxygen sensor w/ gauge way faster and perfect ratio! ENJOY!

      Dropped elbow guy was on point. I’ve seen a lot of poor technique guys flat out rip. But you got the YZ ripping as well! Thanks for these videos as the 22 YZ might just be my next bike.

      Hey don't mock us elbows down boys we're still plenty fast haha. Mines a habit from being a predominantly single track enduro rider and I keep them down so I don't smack my arms on tree's/branches but I still keep up with the faster guys on the mx track riding like that!!!

      Yeah and “elbows down guy” who is “ripping” is on a bike with double the displacement....that 450 eats the 250 up in the power department so you don’t need technique.

      The 4 stroke had way better corner speed. Takes more talent to make a 2 stroke go fast everywhere.

  • @keithpeterson3447
    @keithpeterson3447 2 года назад +4

    Bump that pilot back up. You'll see a lot better torque off the bottom. Now that it's leaner, you're having to do more clutching off the corners & the bike falls on its face a lot easier.

    Or you could just not worry about jetting and get a lectron carb! I always spent time re-jetting for temp changes, etc but after buying my lectron, I just fire up the bike and ride and it self-adjusts. Not sure about the yamahas but it worked out great for my 01 CR250. Power is nice and smooth and still rips. Still got the old Mikuni tmx and a little box of JD jets collecting dust lol.

    im using a 680 main and 44-76 needle clip #1, in a 2017 yz125 with av100ll fuel, stock except for fmf shorty, ive had problems with the motor running lean and stalling at high rpm, actually blew up my rm125 but that bike came stock with something ridiculous like a 370 main @Shelby Paget

    • @Indistinct0
      @Indistinct0 2 года назад

      the plug is still coming out ashy, so im going to switch to a leaner needle and clip up more, like a 42-76 or 43-76, and a 720 main most likely

    • @Indistinct0
      @Indistinct0 2 года назад

      it sounds to me like you could either, lean the needle taper one step, or lean the airscrew 0.5 turn -ish, because when you roll on the throttle at low speed it could be a bit crisper

    If you can get your hands on some VP t2. It comes pre mixed. What most people fail to do is read the owners manual where it calls for the use of 93+ octane fuel. Plus pump gas only stays 91 for about a week and a half at small quantities.

    • @ShelbyPaget
      @ShelbyPaget  2 года назад

      Okay! That’s a great recommendation!

    • @dustinmoto425
      @dustinmoto425 2 года назад

      @@ShelbyPaget majority of my customers all suffer from the same problem which surrounds old pump gas. One of the reasons VP and Sunco are so pricey is because you aren’t just paying for high octane fuel you’re also paying for fuel additives that prevent your fuel from losing its octane rating. California 91 pump gas within a matter of two weeks drop significantly to around 88 or 87 if your lucky. Lower octane fuel means higher temperature for combustion which means faster wearing internal parts like your piston, cylinder pop coating, cylinder, rings (or ring) and jetting all out of whack. It doesn’t matter if you have a super Bitchn lectron carb either. I run t2 in my built 125 and stock 125 and as far as the stock motor with fmf pipe with shorty, vforce reed cage, and 36mm keihin pwk carb. The t2 fuel works amazing. I used to run the stock mikuni 38mm carb with 410 main and 35 pilot with the needle on the very bottom click because the t2 fuel runs the bike a little bit richer causing power valve spooge. (Black oily discharge coming from the breather hose attached to the power valve cap at the front of the motor) i’m pretty sure t2 is 105octane which works great also with my ported and milled race bike motor. I also run a modified keihin pwk 36mm with the mod motor and it feel like I pulls just as hard on top as a stock 250 2 stroke.

      @@dustinmoto425 One of the reasons why everyone should use the gas they got that day, and not excess from when you rode 2+ weeks ago. Easy for 4 strokes, just pour what's left in your can in your car. For 2 strokes, you have to get a feel for how much gas you need for a weekend, or use two cans and just mix it as you need it, then dump the rest in your car/truck.

    • @joeydirt420
      @joeydirt420 Год назад

      @@jth_printed_designs i was thinking of doing the 2 can thing. But then what are you riding till your bike is empty kr draining the fuel system everytime you ride? If your riding once a week thats such a pain. Im getting my yz250x soon and have been wondering this

    • @jth_printed_designs
      @jth_printed_designs Год назад

      @@joeydirt420 Just get one can. As long as you're riding with decent frequency (every couple weeks) you're fine. Don't stress about it, just get an idea of how much fuel you use in a day, and then get that much gas before you go riding. You'll have a little left over but when you get gas the next time, there will be much more fresh gas than slightly old gas. As long as the can is well sealed it'll last for a while before it starts to lose octane to any significant degree. The premix oil can fall out of suspension in the fuel though, so make sure to shake up your can before filling up.
      I wouldn't recommend storing gas for several months over the winter, but other than that don't worry about it. 250t's arent as high strung as 250f's or 125t's either.

      i run 1 tooth bigger rear from stock, i really helps get the peed correct for track riding, allows you to shift into 3rd or 4th even on tracks and really get the correct power out of turns, but its terrible if you ride anythign more high speed like desert

    Hi Shelby, I just got the following feedback from one of my local dealers on when/how to reserve a '22 YZ250. What are your thoughts on their terms? Is their out the door price of $8973.59 too much? Btw I'm on the east coast (NC). Not sure if that affects price but I suspect it does.
    . . . .
    " You would be looking at around $8973.59 after all dealer costs and sales tax is added!
    We can reserve it with $500 over the phone, and when it arrives, should you decide to finance the full amount- we can refund your $500 at that time."

    It’s a 250 you don’t need to smoke the clutch as much.
    Down shift before corners and leave it a gear lower
