luis the incu-vader Rise of Lyric is god awful, no doubt, but I am rather optimistic for 2016, and the anniversary title. Perhaps that's naive of me, foolish even, but I just have this gut feeling that this is going to be a turning point. I mean, Sega knows where they are, they know what people view them as, and they know they *have* to start producing quality products, or face the death of the company.
I think if sonic team make the next big sonic game its gonna be awesome also crush 40 is in the soundtrack apparently according to some rumous so theres hope that the next game will be great like generations

This song really does speak to me. Sonic the hedgehog, a fictional character can be related to by many. No one in this world is perfect, even the fastest thing alive has his bad days. But he never gives up and never looks back on his mistakes because life is too short to worry about the past and the future, and instead think of ways to overcome the obstacles and when he does have his good days, they really overshadow the bad ones. Sonic's carefree personality shows that you shouldn't sweat the small things and instead consider what went wrong and how to improve in order to keep moving forward. :)

At my high school graduation, you got the choice to pick whichever song you liked as you were going up on stage to get your diploma. I choose this song as I feel that it has that "when something ends another begins" motif. Sonic in the game sadly had to let his friend Chip go, as I had to move on from being a teenager into being an adult. In a way, Sonic molded my personality. He makes mistakes as we all do but he keeps his head held high and pushes through adversity and that's the mentality I try to hold during hard times. Whenever I feel like I need to reset and clear my head I listen to this song.

The meaning of this song for me is what Sonic is all about: Freedom and excitement. He enjoys living on the edge. He loves testing his speed against a capable adversary (like Shadow, arguably his greatest rival) but when the chips are down, he'll fight for the greater good.
When the world is genuinely threatened, he'll still be that cheerful, fun loving guy, but he'll be much more focused on taking down the enemy. When all is said and done he moves on to the next adventure, never truly settling down.
He's a free spirit, and like the wind, he goes where he wants, untamed and masterless: His impatient and boisterous personality are really in spite of his good nature, rather than caused by it. For this, he's portrayed positively, so he's rarely ever a nuisance.
Even a cold, brooding loner like Shadow can't help but feel the utmost respect for him. That's why I believe their rivalry is more friendly than hateful. They compete against each other, but it's never personal.
And Mario? Well, he's also a good guy. That's why I think off the racing courses, or out of the arena (SSB) they'd probably be the best of friends rather than bitter enemies.

Raul Garcia Irvine Well, to be very very honest, possibly the main reason people didn't played Unleashed in Brazil was because everything that was not PS2 content or FIFA games get harshly dismissed. Even when it comes to video games, we act literally like apes, playing soccer games and shooters all day, or even sticking back to SEGA Genesis just to play Mortal Kombat. Sonic is now long forgotten around here, and Unleashed was not an exception, though I have the 360 version and love it to this very day, since 2010.
Also my friends think I'm stupid because I still play Sonic games. But those motherfuckers only play two very overrated games: The Last Of Us and GTA V. Fuck them!

Bowling for Soup has always been a pretty uplifting band, but that verse is seriously so inspiring to me. It's always one of my go-tos for just, lyrics that make me feel hopeful.

What I really miss is this was the last game when Sonic was a "badass". After this, they transitioned into Sonic Colors. They changed his voice to Roger, his personality changed completely into an overconfident idiot who thinks he's funny, the enemies stopped being terrifying, Eggman decided realistic weaponry wasn't cool anymore, and the other characters besides Sonic don't do anything.
I used this song for my high school capstone. Signifying that the possibilities are never ending for my future. And i still believe that now that Im in my senior year of college. have no regrets this song is amazing! Long live sonicc 💙💙💙

Open Your Heart and Live and Learn are arguably the best out of the franchise. But i dod grow up with those songs and games so this is just my opinion. This song is very good too, I sing it a every once in a while but the first two by Crush 40 are just so motivational and inspirational to me.

The werehog gives variety,and you still have the day stages for speed,i don't see what the problem is.
George Miles it's very simple, later stages can take up to 30 minutes while sonics daytime takes maybie 8 minutes in the eggmanland(final stage), for every 30 minutes of sonic you have to play 2 hours of werehog. The PS3/xbox version is decent on the combat mechanics, but if you are playing the wii/ps2 version the combat is mundane and gets repetive instead of giving variety like you said.

I'd make a case that this is one of the most important sonic games in the franchise. It introduced the fantastic boost gameplay, which would then be implemented into the following 2 games. It had a fun, silly and entertaining story line. It had arguably the best music in the whole franchise. It's just such a shame the werehog bogged it down so much. However it will always be one of my most well remembered games, despite the odd time where it dragged. I genuinely think this game triggered a second... third life into the sonic franchise, and I'm ever thankful to sonic team for that.
I would argue that Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush introduced the boost mechanic to the series, though Unleashed was the first 3D Sonic game to include it.
Yeah, I did actually think about those games, but I was more referring to the console games. Sonic, in general, has had a very good life on hand helds so it feels less game changing. Your point still stands though.
I agree with you completely. It is, as you said, one of the most important games in the Sonic franchise. Almost everything about it was amazing. It's sad how the werehog gameplay heavily affected the game itself. It was slow, repetitive, and was a constant disturbance to the flow of the game. In my opinion, if they had left that out, it would have been one of the best Sonic games ever made. Werehog or no werehog though, Sonic Unleashed is definitely one of the most remembered.

TheMartiin1997 The general reception for the werehog gameplay might have turned out differently if the execution wasn't so poor... For me that type of gameplay doesn't suit Sonic very well. It would have been perfect for Knuckles however. He definitely needs more spotlight.

All they had to do was make the werehog feel stronger, give him less attention and shorter levels, and remove the medal collecting.
edit: or instead of making the werehog stages shorter, they could just make the day stages longer.

I'd rather they'd just put the Red Rings in and, like in Colors and Generations, have them unlock extra stuff instead of being required to progress through the game. I absolutely agree with you on the Werehog. I'd also add tighter control, a drop shadow and more emphasis on platforming.
They should put special stages back in, and hide them around the level. Like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and like Sonic Robo Blast 2 (Fan game.)

In my opinion, this sonic game was the best. I have so much nostalgia from it, and the amazing times i had playing it. It was so much fun being the werehog during a summer day at home or going fast in an italian city. People call it the worst, not the best, but I personally think it was the most funnest and fastest sonic game i've played. The story was great, and it had amazing hub worlds, shops, exp, combos, it was absolutely amazing... THAT'S IT I'M WATCHING ANOTHER PLAYTHROUGH I CAN'T HANDLE THIS

Sonic Team could not have chosen a more fitting song to include for the trailer. Its basically the whole journey in one single song. Sounds cheesy but it makes me want to be Sonic and run so fast through an open prarie or something its that catchy and motivating!

Who else played the Wii version growing up? I got an Xbox 360 Near the end of its lifespan and had already beaten this game multiple times on the Wii so I never got for the 360. Might get it again and stream it...

It was okay. The last zone [planet wisp] and the final boss ruined the experience for me.. Rooftop Run was AMAZING though and probably the saving grace for the game.

The level design was horrible, the remixed music was bad, and the level itself was WAY too long.
I remember singing this song on my english vocal exam in high school where everyone had to pick a song and sing it correctly. I love this game so much, one of the best game i have ever played on my Wii and PS2.

I got this game at GameStop but it was in the “used” section with all the games with makeshift paper cases, it came with no instructions so I didn’t know what the heck I was doing or where to go, I didn’t even think of looking at a walkthrough cause my cocky but lazy ass thought it was a good idea to just “wander around and figure it out myself”.

you haven’t played this game if you haven’t played the wii version, but this game kinda sparked my love for sonic. as well as secret rings, colors, sa2, and generations. anyway, Sonic is a loving, caring, serious, and funny person (or should i say hedgehog). nothin ever let’s this guy down. sonic is always positive and isn’t scared of anything. and that’s what is the best about him, he will take any challenge that comes against him, like perfect chaos, shadow, and even solaris. even if you think you can, you cannot bring sonic down. even if you thinked you stopped the blue blur.
he will still keep on running :)

This song was ever played on Singapore radio when I was young. :) it was popular too! People kept requesting the song for the Top 20 countdown! :D but when I was younger, i wasn't interested with Sonic and yet this song really recalls my primary school memories. :) now in Secondary School... Boring... :/
