For anyone wondering this one is the mechanical conventional hard disk version. They also sell an SSD version but the price difference is huge. As of today the 4TB HDD version is $200 (2TB is $169) . The 2TB SSD version is $750! (500GB SSD is $280)
I appreciate your review and yes, this WiFi hard drive does have sone nice features but prior to my purchase, I was under the impression that one could transfer data from their device, such as an iPhone or iPad utilizing WiFi and the WD My Cloud app but unfortunately, that’s not available. Also, the HD also has a USB port and since I store information on a USB flash drive, again, I was hoping to transfer data using the USB port but to date, every time I try, it won’t transfer my data. Instead, I learned that it’s best to keep my data on my iPhone and when I wish to unload information from my iPhone and iPad, I simply use the Apple lightning cable. I plus one dude of the cable into my iPhone or iPad, plug the other end of the cable into the USB port of the hard drive, open the app and then it will transfer the data. Yes, it’s a nice hard drive to free up space on various devices but I wish doing so didn’t take as much time and effort. Again, WiFi transfers are non existent and to date, I haven’t been able to plug a flash drive into the USB port, open their app and transfer information. I intend on backing up the information from my vehicles dash cams SSD cards but haven’t yet done so. Again, it’s a nice portable hard drive but I wish data transfer was much easier.
I'm always taking a laptop with me on vacation for transferring my files to a hard drive. A few days ago I saw a WD ad for this drive, now I'm sold. Only one problem, I can't buy this drive with an old USB micro B port! All my devices are USB C, so I guess I'll have to wait until WD sells an upgraded version :( One more thing, can you do a speedtest how fast it copies files from an SD card?
Would you do another review after a few years of use and how useful it is and if happened any issues? That one still is the best on the market from them! Cheers mate!
I be going to osaka next month and i wasnt quite sure if my hostel have an computer that i could use to transfer my memory card data to an extern hardrive. After watching this video i order an one 1tb pro. The download speed seems amazing on this device.
Is the WDPassport still a viable backup option 'on the field'. I use GoPro, iPhone and Canon G1X to collect images while on motorcycle rides. This seems to be a good option to get stuff backed up off SD Cards onto the WD and then later transfer over to other drives for storage. Is there an 'easy' way to get images/videos off the iPhone and onto the WD?
hay man awesome video I want to offload my go pro max and session videos on the go I was wondering if you still use this portable drive or have you got a new one brilliant content man
Awesome, very well explained I will be ordering one ASAP. All I use is an iPad and this will work great. This is exactly what I need, are you able to name the file folders as you store them?
Have you tried it with ipados beta? Also should I have internet connection to use it wirelessly or it creates its own WiFi network that I connect afterwards my devices? Thx
Is it possible to keep memory card in gopro and just plug cable from gopro to harddrive? This is how I do it on my computer. Memory card stays in gopro and I plug gopro into computer. It would be great if you could transfer this way with this harddrive
Well it will be nice if it can transfer straight from go pro to WD without insert the card where is the wireless option is limited I think the same way we transfer from go pro to cell via wireless right
I have recorded 4k video on GoPro. Please can you tell me how I can watch it on my TV without losing quality (so basically when you watch RUclips video and the quality is 2160 - 4k) I want to make sure mine is that as well. How can this be done? Thank you
See how you have it plugged in at around 5 mins. What happens if you push the smaller button on the back of gopro while its plugged into harddrive? It should go into transfer mode. I'm curious if it will connect and transfer content in the same way as if you were to plug the sd card directly in? If anyone knows please share. Thanks
Question for you, I will only be downloading GoPro videos to this device. Does it create a new folder every time I insert the SD card to download the new videos? Also, is there any set up that has to be done with this storage device?
hi - great video many thanks - I have a quick question. When you shoot an SD card and the camera chooses a file name so you then download to the drive as you describe. Once you then clear the SD card to shoot more video - does the camera then name the next new video the same file name i.e vid001. so does that then overwrite the file on the drive the next time you try to upload the camera SD to the drive? Thanks in advance..
Can you download video from WD drive to iPad's "camera roll"? Specifically I'm interested in using this to store AND edit in the field, on iPad iMovie, without involving a laptop. Laptops are heavier and less battery life compared to iPad. Some people are saying you can't download media to the "camera roll" - but if it can be done, we can go from there to iMovie, Instagram, Facebook etc. I'm going on a long motorcycle trip to other countries so I am looking to simplify and cut weight.
Hi, how should me are 100% sure that the files are all transferred to the portable hard drive? And is that all we need to transfer files for this portable drive?
Can I ask you a real question which WD Do you prefer My Passport Wireless SSD External Portable Drive - WiFi USB 3.0 or. WD 4TB My Passport Wireless Pro Portable external Hard Drive - WiFi USB 3.0 - WD
I just bought this Opened the box, set it up, transferred from my SD but when I stream it to my iPad Pro the footage keeps freezing. It’s like the drive when streaming cannot keep up? Any ideas what the issue might be. My iPad is the brand new 2019 12.9 Pro so that can’t be the issue. It has to be the drive. Any thoughts?
if you don't want to take the microsd card out from the gopro, can you just connect the gopro to the WD drive with a usb3.0 line and offload the content?
YES! I found this video very useful! Finally! I found an answer to my how-to-not-bring-my-macbook-when-travelling-just-for-my-video-storage! So glad i came across your video! Was watching your video about the Quick Key :D
Hi, really nice video! :)) I'm thinking about buying this for my upcoming travel, but I have a question: how much time does it take for this to transfer 50gb of video files? Thank you
This is awesome! Definitely going to look into this today! Question: after you have downloaded from the sd card to the drive, does the content automatically delete from the sd card?
+Andy on a Journey All the content by default stays on the card… If you shoot more content, it knows what has been transferred and one only transfer new content. I believe there is a setting you can enable to clear if you so desire
Personally I have not had too many problems with it. I think since using it I’ve had the app lock up on me once but other than that I can’t really complain. It’s still a great solution for offloading and backing up your content on the go Without a computer
question...Im going to the Mt. Everest base camp in November...Im taking the WD with me. Using it to back up my videos and pics to make sure I do not lose any. When I get home I would love to transfer them to my Mac Book...on IPhoto and Movie...is this possible?...or must I use the WD App only? I want to put together a You Tube video and Im more familiar with the Photo and Movie apps....thanks for any help you can give me....this will be the first time Ive used a GoPro so Im a little worried about how this will come out...thanks
`Randy Cuffaro hey, how’d the trek to Everest Base Camp go? I’m planning on going in November 2019 and was thinking of purchasing the WD My Passport Wireless Pro (or SSD) to back up stills and video. Did this product work out well for you? Thanks!
Any idea if it can backup straight to another USB external drive from it's USB port? If i travel without a laptop, just wondering how I can make a backup of the drive so I don't have just one copy
Evan Bartlett after watching this I’m thinking I’ll get one so I can leave my laptop behind on the trip I’m about to take. Sorry if my reply seemed sarcastic. But it actually makes sense if you can afford it I guess
Constructive Criticism: please keep your voice level constant. You went down in volume as you talked. I turned up my volume and then all of a sudden you were loud again. Since it's a wireless hard drive I thought you were going to transfer files (pics and vids) wirelessly from the camera to the hard drive. I guess that's not possible to do. If another drive, not wireless, had a SD card port you could do file transfers a little cheaper.
"If another drive, not wireless, had a SD card port you could do file transfers a little cheaper." Sure you can, with a laptop or PC. But however users like me, that travel without my laptop/PC, will need the WD My Passport Wireless Pro, wich seems to be the perfect product!
I’m needing this to transfer my images from a CF card to my iPad for debiting. Many people complain about drive failures on WD drives. Any issues so far?
This thing is 100% trash! It failed me in less that a week & their support said, “we are not responsible.” Absolutely terrible product. Absolutely terrible customer service.

Man, I wish I knew about this 2 months ago. I guess I'll have to start saving up for one now. Thanks for the video.
+Tim Crone It definitely is well worth the money

Anything simillar, in 4 TB or more, that is very durable and waterproof?
can you copy to other ssd directly from this hard drive like cloning into something new
You know what? What an amazing and informative video. Everything I needed to know without stupid acting I tors or whatever. Subscribed and thank you.
Thank you very much and welcome aboard
Interesting! This will come in handy indeed! Thanks for the vid!!
+Reggie HD Definitely one of my favorite accessoies
Just picked this up tonight at best buy!

I have Sony rx100 M6, Mavic Air and Gopro 5. Is this good for coping 4k 60fps and 1080p 120fps for a 30 days trip? BIG THANKS
Hi, how should me are 100% sure that the files are all transferred to the portable hard drive? And is that all we need to transfer files for this portable drive?
What if your your device doesn’t have detachable storage?
does it clear your Card after copy ? how do u transfer from your phone ?

I just Ordered the 4 TB one for 195.00 from Amazon that’s including Taxes and stuff and free shipping
Very safe units to use.

Can I plug my cfast card reader to offload cfast 2.0 4k videos? It would be great if it does. I have 1dx ii. Many thanks!!
Hi,
really nice video! :))
I'm thinking about buying this for my upcoming travel, but I have a question: how much time does it take for this to transfer 50gb of video files?
Thank you
Very clear, great video. Thanks!
Does anyone know how to reset or format a WD passport wireless drive to the original settings using Mac utility.
Apparently, this is now discontinued…with nothing like it as replacement.
Can you directly backup using the type C to type A cable from the GoPro?
I have asked the same question from various youtubers and no one had given me a simple answer.
This is the best product ever
i have the 1 TB since 2 years and love it ! great video !!! keep it up
I agree they are a great device. Thanks for watching :)
Hi! The videos u transfer from your microsd card into your iOS device are 4K?
My WD does not stream that smoothly ? HOW ? I shoot in 2.7 K 24FPS got an Ipad 2018
Could the Fusion GoPro offload the data using the USB cable? That why I don't have to unplug the tiny microSD cards
Yes you can offload trough USB, but it will be slower
This is awesome! Definitely going to look into this today!
Question: after you have downloaded from the sd card to the drive, does the content automatically delete from the sd card?
+Andy on a Journey All the content by default stays on the card… If you shoot more content, it knows what has been transferred and one only transfer new content. I believe there is a setting you can enable to clear if you so desire
There is an option to let you auto delete after dumping the card which I would not recommend.
Nice video, I have one question, did you measure how fast is the speed rate when backing up the SD Card?
+Ludwind Zamudio No sorry but if I get a chance I will do that
Thanks for the great review. Other reviews said they had problems with Micro SDs and that the My Cloud ☁️ app was unstable. How have you found them?
Personally I have not had too many problems with it. I think since using it I’ve had the app lock up on me once but other than that I can’t really complain. It’s still a great solution for offloading and backing up your content on the go Without a computer
Air Photography. Yeah I agree, small price. Thanks again.
jesus, I am glad i know about this now/getting one asap

Any idea if it can backup straight to another USB external drive from it's USB port? If i travel without a laptop, just wondering how I can make a backup of the drive so I don't have just one copy
Evan Bartlett you could use two of these drives and offload to both
Kashedbowl thanks. Not a bad idea. They're just so big for travel...
Evan Bartlett after watching this I’m thinking I’ll get one so I can leave my laptop behind on the trip I’m about to take. Sorry if my reply seemed sarcastic. But it actually makes sense if you can afford it I guess
Kashedbowl not at all, it was a good idea and I hadn't thought of it. Might order one and see how i like it

Jake Brockey
Yes some models have an wifi uppload option.
Very helpful, thanks!
+Liz W great! Thanks for watching 🙂
does it support 4k 60fps from camera and edit that file in lumafusion? thanks
Yes you can transfer your 4K 60 FPS files directly into LumaFusion and bypass the limitations in iOS
Air Photography wow thats good to know. thank you for taking a time to answer question 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Nice.....I own 2TB one, really convenient
U talked a lot and forgot to show us how we offload to ipad, will it allow us to save in files app or just camera roll
Any way to use this direct connect with mac usb 2.0? I get a message that says USB Accessories Disabled Using too much power. Any ideas?
Can anyone tell me what would be nice editing software for Gopro vids on ipad Pro? TIA!
iMovie but Luma Fusion is better.
Is this hard drive durable?
Yea I'd like to know this as well. Also why isn't there a version with ssd or m.2 ssd that could be tiny and durable.
Yea saw that on wd website. Not yet available where I live though. Thx for the update
Any update for this in 2019?
Not much is changed except they are a little cheaper LOL
Air Photography Thanks, so I think this is the way, I would like a SSD solution😃
do you know if this can be purchased from Australia?
I would assume. Have you checked on Amazon?
Will this work with a Fusion GoPro? It has two microSD cards.
I’m needing this to transfer my images from a CF card to my iPad for debiting. Many people complain about drive failures on WD drives. Any issues so far?
Thanks for the info.
Uhhh, what about wireless wifi to the laptop?
for 400 dollers just buy like 10 different sd cards or 2 laptops
The proper term for tablets is limited STORAGE. Not memory.
Yes indeed I have a bad habit of referring to it as a memory not storage
Nice 👍🏼
dude can you please pull the camera back a bit your videos sometimes feel claustrophobic
