During the onset of World War ll the windows were removed for safe keeping.
If the Civic Community hadn't had such foresight, these beautiful windows would have been lost forever, as the Cathedral was bombed in 1940!

Wait, so this cathedral is a rebuilt? Man, thank goodness they used to be removed! At least we now have them or I'll be sad when it became lost like any other destroyed crafts 😢😢😢

Its funny...I love me some cathedrals in Euro being an American. I also take the train from London to Liverpool 2x a year for work, I'm going to need to drop into Birmingham now for sure. As always, loverly content, spot on with the details and insights.

British churches are full of Pre-Raphaelite stained glass because the Victorians renovated so many of them. You can be in any random countryside village and come across a brilliant work in the windows of some medieval church.

This takes me back to the Medieval playlist, lol.
I love the main, "as above, so below" depiction of Jesus, the fiery red of the angels in the ascension scene, the little stream around adorable bb jzus, etc. I do wonder about that stream... if it's a reference to him being "living water" for humanity. It's gorgeous either way.
And the end times scene... oof. The buildings falling apart reminded me of what Jesus told his disciples when they were gawking at the temple - not one stone will remain upon another. It'll put the fear of God right in you. 🙊
