Funniest guy on tv because he could laugh at himself. Love this guy since 1956.

Dennis is so funny in this, he must have had a delightful time with this character. Terrific sketch/spoof.

For those of you too young to watch Dan Duryea in his many roles, there is sort of an inside joke with this skit. Duryea was known for play scumbag villains who usually slaps women (and some guys, too)

Jack did this sketch repeatedly on his radio show and, finally, on television. The first time the guest star was Richard Widmark, the second time it was Edward G, Robinson, This was the third.

Mel Blanc as the dept store salesman who gets driven bonkers was absolutely brilliant in the Christmas Shopping episode. Hilarious.

This one just didn't go over well. There wasn't enough levity to balance out the more serious tone. It was quite different from his other shows and not in a good way.

I don't agree. It had lots of levity. It didn't have a serious tone from my perspective.
I enjoyed it thoroughly. Dan Duryea was great.

@RockManLP George Carlin did a whole routine on death and dying.
The people laughed thru it all. Talk about serious.

Why did you waste your time watching it then, a true Jack Benny fan appreciates all his work, he was the master, I have every piece of his work from 1932 to the end of his working carrier, his worst is better than any of the crap put out today bar none>

I get what you mean. I like JB so much of course I watched it all the way through, and was rewarded by seeing him break up a few times---but this wasn't a favorite of his shows. He's always good himself, though.

Jack did the "Lunch Counter Murder" sketch FOUR TIMES- twice on radio, featuring Edward G. Robinson [November 1946] and Richard Widmark [November 1950]; and twice on television {the first was a "live" episode with George Raft, in February 1955 (that can be seen on RUclips), and this filmed version}.
