Simply running a gang and being a footsoldier on a peaceful saiyan planet should mean nothing compared to effing bardock or nappa. Even radditz had it harder than both of them. Its contrived bs and thats that.
The reason was that Goku didn’t kill him he just put him close to death. He figured that he would die after Namek exploded but he said he still sensed his energy as he was approaching earth and knew he didn’t kill Goku
