    Thanks for making this possible. Seeing the explorer on so many straps options 😍

  • @TimeandTalk

    Lug width was one of the reasons I chose the 114270, coupled with the kinda blocky case of the modern Rolex. However, the straps look good on the watch, and great vid!

      Thanks. Yes, the 20mm lug width of the 11 is great wished the 12 had that too but well. Things are how they are.

    Great video! I have the same watch and I do recommend the sailcloth strap from Artem (order with the quick release bar). Strapcode sells the bended 19mm spring bars with a quick release option.
    Cheers from Brazil!

      True, the watch really transforms with other straps. That's the reason this design is so great. A shame it's not easier to swap them.

    Thanks Mario, my explorer spends 95% of the time on the Oyster. But occasionally I wear on a strap too. Do you have links for the spring bars and bar curving tool? 🙏🙏🙏

      Hi Rob, yes, of course. I'm adding the links directly in the description of the video and here. The bending tool could be almost be anyone. This is a rather affordable one: www.ebay.es/itm/185273296763 (you will need to find similar ones). And the spring bars are here: www.ebay.es/itm/362067026444?var=631293451432 Remember to select the right length. Here's the 19mm ones. Very good quality.

    Great video. Did you buy 19mm spring bars or 20mm to factor in reduced length once bent?

    • @TheWatchFrame
      @TheWatchFrame  Год назад +2

      I thought about it and I got the 19mm ones, and they fit perfect after bending. I made some tests of 20mm ones with other watch and they would not fit in the 19mm space of the Explorer, so 19mm is ok.

    Enjoyed watching as always. Thank you. Btw what is your wrist size? I have 7.75inch wrist and I want to get the Explorer. I really like the 36mm and although it looks a bit small on me, I love the comfort. The dial is gorgeous, simple, elegant yet still a tool watch.

    • @TheWatchFrame
      @TheWatchFrame  Год назад +1

      Thanks! My wrist is around 7.25 and it works for me. I like smaller watches and even wear 32 and 34mm ones. The 34 is probably my limit buy the 32 has a small bezel so it works.

    @alexw9368 Год назад +2

    Great video as always Mario. Can I ask - do you feel the spring bars are sturdy after you bend them? I have the same watch and I'm a bit worried the bars will break during wear if i have bent them. I would buy good quality ones like the ones you have in the video. Do you have any issue with them after a few weeks / months of wear? Thanks!

    • @TheWatchFrame
      @TheWatchFrame  Год назад +2

      Thanks! The spring bars I got, there's a link at the description, are very strong and feel very confident of them. They are extra thick and strong. In the video the one I'm bending is a normal spring bar because I have more 19mm heavy duty ones, but not bent as I might use them in the future. The ones I have are still very strong. I have been wearing the ones I show put on the watch for over a year and are perfectly fine.

    That WatchGekko strap in red/brown is sharp. I presume WatchGekko would custom make a 21mm for the newer 40mm Explorer. That would be sharp.

    Thank you for this video! It's very helpful. Quick questions -
    1. With the tricks mentioned in this video, do the straps look ok without being damaged by the sharp edges in a long term?
    2. Also, did you find the sailcloth strap flexible enough to contour around the curved spring bar? or is it pretty stiff and still touch the sharp edge of the watch? wasn't 100% sure from the video.
    Thanks!

    • @TheWatchFrame
      @TheWatchFrame  Год назад +1

      Hi, about the first question. The case is very close even with curved spring bars, so it could be damaged. Most of the ones I have got a little wear there at the extreme. You must be very careful in any case.
      About the second question, the one I got, the sailcloth, has straight quick release spring bars, but it is so thin it's one of the few that, as a matter of facto, does not touch the watch case.

    • @ssang90
      @ssang90 Год назад

      @@TheWatchFrame Thanks for your response! Does it leave any mark on the case of the watch where it touches the strap?

    • @TheWatchFrame
      @TheWatchFrame  Год назад +1

      @@ssang90 Not sure what you mean, but no, the strap will not damage the case, but the edges of the case might bring some wear to the extreme of the strap, but not to the sailcloth which is very thin.

    • @ssang90
      @ssang90 Год назад

      @@TheWatchFrame Yeah, I was asking if it caused any visible damage to the watch itself. Thank you sir!

    • @TheWatchFrame
      @TheWatchFrame  Год назад +1

      @@ssang90 I did manage myself to scratch the under side of the lugs with the tool by trying to move the bracelet itself out of the head of the watch instead of the watch of the head away from the bracelet, thus my recommendation there, but again, that was purely my fault of not knowing what I was doing and trying to change straps when a bit nervous and out of time. To change straps with the Explorer is better to calm down and take time to gain experience and taping the metal parts of the watch before damaging it.

    Great video ! I would like to change my original oyster strap from my explo 124270, however I do not wish to bend the springbars. Do you think that a standard strap with springbar in 19mm is accepted/adapted on this Explo 1? Thank you for your answer !

    • @TheWatchFrame
      @TheWatchFrame  Год назад +1

      Well, yes, it's not advisable to bend the original spring bars, so any other 19mm bent ones will work. I however recommend heavy duty ones that have a bit wider tip to fit the lug holes. There's a not affiliated link in the description.

      When your wrist expands in summer it's more comfortable with a perlon strap. For the rest of the year though, mine never leaves the bracelet.

    • @TheWatchFrame
      @TheWatchFrame  Год назад +3

      For me this is very personal. But the Explorer has been a classic watch with the ability to live with different straps. Also for real exploring in the mountains it was a classic feature to be able to swap the bracelet with special long leather ones. The Rolex Explorer 1016 has even drilled lugs and the newer versions and always been really quite strap friendly in general. Only now the brand seems to have decided they don't want their customer to really take full advantage of such a strap changing compatible design of watch. So, yes, this watch is great with the bracelet, but then again, why would some people not want to change to other straps sometimes? And talking of this. Here a nice plus: www.everestbands.com/products/curved-end-rubber-strap-for-rolex-explorer-i-36mm-deployant?variant=39983751135294
