Inspiring. Doing this and plan to move to Tennessee so works perfectly.
I'm proud to be from Tennessee!
I once saw a pair of Missouri mules from Clydesdale mares and a Mammoth Jack. They were the most powerful equines I ever saw, magnificent animals.

Beautiful animals.
My Aunt and Uncle take their mules way up into the mountains hunting. They earned it. Growing up with horses I'm more comfortable in that saddle but my dream is a good horse and pack mule rig. Two horses one mule. Its nice to dream ,if you do it right they come true. Wonderful video!
Not sure if you ever have seen the pic of a mule biting the heck out of a cougar? Think owner said his horses would never do that.
My grandfather had mules up until the summer he died (1966). He loved mules and used them on his small Tennessee farm. Daddy knew how to work a team as well. In the summer of 1966, I learned how to work a team as well.
"So far they ain't said anything against it". That's a classic right there. I know mules & I see some fine mules in this video.
"The sound of the labor itself"
Profound!

Lots of good teams in this video
God Bless Y’all forever.
Thank you for this video. I have heard the song about the mule skinner but never knew what one was.
I was in the heart of Mexico once and was invited by a Cowboy friend of mine to take salt to the cattle. When he pulled 2 Mules out of the stables and placed saddles on them, I gave a giggle. My friend then replied, when you see the canyon we are going thru you are going to be glad we are riding these Mules. Sure enough the narrow rocky steep trails were no match for the Mules.
Boy was I wrong about Mules. 5:42 5:42

We had a pair of mules back in the 50's. I learned to plow when I was only 12 yrs old. I would prefer mules over horses any day. My first job out of high school was plowing rows of sapling at the woodhowell nursaery in Bristol Va. Those were the days.
I worked mules when i lived in middle tennessee fell in love with them worked a wild one drug logs with him
Now i am looking for a gentle team to plow garden and to use with a 5 soovle to keep weeds out
So let me get this straight...mule skinning, does NOT involve a skinning knife. I feel kinda dumb now, but my excuse is that I'm from Australia.
I kid you not, I recall references to mule skinners in lots of books that I've read throughout my life and remember wondering what you Americans used all those mule hides for....I know, dumb huh ?!
My grandfather was a muleskinner in ww one . they are still used around the world.
Right at the beginning, the narrator talks about "eighteenth century's' mowing machines, when indeed they were invented in the 19th century.
My dad and I are part of the middle Tennessee mule Skinner's
And they are more sure-footed than a horse even Cowboys like them for that
I think it was George Washington who prefered to ride a mule over a horse.
That’s why fests of gun smoke had one.

My dad's mom's last name was Skinner.
Don't you mean the 19th century (1801-1900)?
Anybody know why mules are so different smart?
I swear, Tennessee is calling on me, just like Texas called on them. Time to pay that debt back. Much love.
Eighteenth century?
What is a Mule-Skinner?
A muleskinner is a professional mule driver whose sole purpose was to keep the mules moving.
The term 'Skinner' is slang for someone who might 'skin' or outsmart a mule.
