Jordan arthur smith is a really cool small brand. Not techwear, but its some of the greatest example of avant garde clothing ive seen in a while. He sizes all of his clothing to non human sculptures so the item contrasts the human form in a very incredible way.
Cool to see Skinnosh here. I've followed David's content for quite a while, he's really one of the most consistent and interesting avantgarde fashion-tubers out there.
On this topic, how about making a video about how you go about finding new brands, be they small and selfmade or bigger, established corporations? As someone who's just getting into fashion i find it a bit difficult branch out beyond the super mainstream stuff.
My way of looking at it is find what you really really like in the mainstream brands first, then start searching for really specific terms, eg. instead of searching for white shirt, if you search for white poplin French cuff shirt, it starts to become from a wider variety of slightly smaller brands, the more specific the better it gets from what I've seen so far.
I like Somar but their combat boot drop really soured my opinion. They had no size charts, everything was final sale, my size 40 boots were bigger than my Timberlands which are one size up, and they didn't even arrive with the second pair of shoelaces. The box was also falling apart. Tried to get in contact with Owen but he ghosted me after a short back and forth. The downside of dealing with small brands is they don't understand some things we take for granted with big multinationals. Plus the limited supply and doing short-notice drops means you need to buy first, think later. It encourages impulsive buying behavior which I don't think is healthy.
Very valid points, tho, I can sympathize with a small team of people who try to manage a clothing store and customer service. supreme also promoted this type of behaviour, with extremely limited drops. and theyre more on a "corporate" level of things
@@mizoboe6193 my problem is that you pay a premium price, but there is no way for you to get support once the item is shipped, even if there are serious defects. The problems with sizing were so bad that there was a small community of buyers who were trading boots in Somar's Instagram comments. Thankfully I managed to get my money back by selling to someone who also got the wrong size, but it was a huge pain.
@@dimman77 Well, i guess it's because of the whole microtrend meta now, you gotta rush things to get the most out of the microtrend, otherwise it might have stopped before it even started
Spent all afternoon watching your videos for the second time. Just want to say how engaging, insightful and thought provoking they have been. Thank you for always delivering.
I've been a long time supporter of smaller brands who don't necessarily put their budget on marketing and instead do cool and/or quality things. Of course the caveat is that they're harder to find but word of mouth is pretty strong if you know where to look. Plus people like you and your content help us discover new things so that's all a win to me !
I really like your videos. You acually made me to think mor about what I'm wearing. So a really big thank you for that. And maybe it would be cool to make a video of clothing for people, like me, who "fill" the regular sized clothing easier. Still have a great day and hope to see a new video of you soon. Whoever reads this, you are a cool person. ^^
Everytime he flashed these images the amount of disgust I felt was palpable 12:43. I use to think designs like those were cool and would get me to stand out like 2-3 years ago, thankfully I saw the light of fast fashion and took on a more thoughtful approach to building a wardrobe to be proud of, thank the gods 😭. Antwon you’ve also been a big help with that too.
Unfortunate that it's so hard to find good quality independent garments. Unless you are really immersed in it there is very little discovery of new options and even if you do then you have to take a bit of a gamble on sizing, quality and cost effectiveness. More often than not I go for the safer "devil I know" rather than take a gamble on a new brand that are often on the higher end price wise.
I am currently looking for more sweaters or generally clothing like Huni, with more round and flowy lines - do you perheps know other brands that do this?
That is the downside! Anything which gets popular has more people wanting to buy than there is stock. You really have to be following them so you know when new releases drop
I’ve just got the Notinlist T-shirt size 1 after watching this video and it’s too small🙈 did not realise they don’t accept returns, anyone interested drop me a line
meaning to ask you this for a while, been watching you for a while but had a real question that will either be answered by a fellow viewer or you, what is good brands/drop shipping for the said stereotypical cyberpunk aesthetic? because i very much enjoy such aesthetics, just simply to get some from the brands i know are expensive and you dont know for sure about quality. I did once buy from fabric of the universe liking the designs but i feel its a burden on my sad wallet :(
Why make a down jacket that's too short to keep you properly warm? Just fill it with polyester instead of adding the extra cost of down for no reason...
@@ThisIsAntwon If it leaves your lower core completely uncovered as it does the insulative value of down is wasted. If it's not designed to keep you warm properly, and just mech-pilot cosplay, the extra cost of down is wasted. They can fill it with polyester fill for the puffyness. It will still look fine, and the buyer won't be hit with extra cost.
Just for your future reference if it bothers you and want to avoid it, leather that is called "shell cordovan" comes from horses. It's been used in shoes, wallets, watch straps for a long time. Just not usually advertised as "horse leather" (it's also a specific type of horse leather, not general horse leather).
I’d recommend the brand carbon copy it’s a brand I discovered when searching for some evangelion inspired wind breakers it’s a good brand from what I can see.
Garuda really just reinvented their whole brand and every piece they put out feels very personal, especially the random auctions of pieces that are amalgamations of multiple other pieces. Super dope brand
Another 3d printed shoe brand I believe is worth mentioning is SCRY, similar organic flowing lines to ALIVEFORM but they have a wider range of models that vary in overall aesthetic, with some silhouettes that look sharp and stylised to anime proportions, and others evoking imagery of various biological structures like coral and flower petals
Thanks Antwon! You always deliver detailed opinion on everything. And as always, you expand my list of brands that I am starting to get interested in! Much love!
Putting myself out there, I started a brand called Awasted Place if anyone is interested in avant-garde style for everyday garments and everyday wear (kinda clash of statements but that’s the point) with a focus on high quality natural fabrics, then Awasted Place is perfect for you. 😅
I love all of these brands, but damn it being so expensive is a major deal breaker. I hate that the best stuff is only attainable to most most financially privelaged
yeah, it’s brutal. I’m broke as a joke so I am resorting to making or modifying clothing by hand sewing. There are some great tutorials on RUclips if you’re at all DIY inclined.
Hi Antwon! Thanks for this vid, some awesome brands there. Lots that I already know, and a few new ones I love. I’m building my own 3D printed ‘FUSED footwear’ brand, in a very similar manner as Ping. I think the Eirean Low might be a good fit for you? I’ll follow up by email, would love your feedback on them.
can we have some more extreme hot weather recs, in terms of pieces and outfits? it’s brutal out here.
It's all about the fabric. Think linen, rayon, technical jerseys etc. Also loose fitting clothes will feel much better in the heat.
Final Home Jacket but put Ice packs between shell an Lining 😂
This, all the techwear stuff I like is kind of pointless when it's hot and humid and you feel best in underpants
@@u-q-6236there is no way antwon is wearing linen 😂

Are badly run drops and consumer- unfriendly return policies just normal for streetwear and similar brands these days?

furry fandom t-shirts too 💀💀💀

I'm so done with this cropped hoodies and jackets trend... most unpractical cuts that feel like they're made to be worn solely on instagram 😛
will improve in near future
I'd argue down has a better warmth to weight ratio so using it here gives the super-wide look without making the jacket really heavy.
