She had the most realistic 15 year old character in the show. Also the most drastic character development from the start to the end. Remember she tried to warn Arc Angel and really wanted to end the war.
At first, I hated her for her behaviour at the start of the show, but later when I got thinking, it was kinda sad how death of her father destroyed her mentally and made her into monster she was for most of her time in show. As she was starting to come around and realize she did not want to just use Kira and she actually loved him, she was kinda I feel embarking on sorta redemption arc, but it was all cut short... shame. She had very interesting character progression and maybe one of the better ones in the show.
I hated Flay as a person at first she was so incredibly cruel. Knowing that Kira would fight because he told the little girl Kira would protect her and everyone forcing and guilting him into fighting. That was messed up. Then Flay kept on guilting and using Kira making him fight to nearly his death (which is what she wanted since she thought he went easy on Athrun) . She was damn evil and maniacal at the start. But I kind of loved that as a character . Instead of using power and competing with coordinators (which she could never do) Flay used her smarts and got the strongest guy around to fight and protect her. If you're not naturally gifted that's the only choice you have. That was SUPER interesting, it was messed up and cruel but really believable to me. Then at the end she realized how cruel she was and started to really fall for him, and finally died. Flay may not have been a good person but she was an amazingly interesting character and I think the show would've been much more boring without her.
ultimately, her death was kind of tragic. she knows what she done to kira was horrible and realizes that, even knowing she fell in love with him. however, she died without ever going through redemption

Perhaps his most tragic loss Kira experienced up to that point. Him being haunted by Flay’s death could be the reason for his behavior and/or actions in GSD; he doesn’t want Lacus to be another Flay.
Man just watched the episode today and it's keeping me up at night. Feel really bad for Flay. She was a spoilt brat at first but she was just a 14 year old girl, who lost her home and was drifting on the middle of nowhere trying to get home. She had hope dangled in front of her when her father came to meet her, tried desperately to save him and had her hope crushed after seeing him get killed. She lashed out at Kira but realised she was all alone now and was afraid, so she latched onto him and started manipulating him. It was a shitty thing to do but the girl was mentally broken. She did eventually come to appreciate him, but the drama with Sai made him reconsider and he left her. Then he supposedly died, leaving her even more alone and afraid without him. She realised she actually did like him but now he's gone. Then she was left for dead in Alaska, where she was saved by Creuset. She now saw more coordinators that weren't shitty people, while witnessing the inhumanity of some naturals and came to accept them. Creuset manipulated her and made her his mistress, giving her false hope about ending the war. He then casts the afraid girl into the middle of a chaotic battlefield, which is her worst nightmare. She learns Kira is alive and tries to reach out, but ends up with Natarle and Azrael instead. She realises she was manipulated by Creuset, and Natarle isn't able to comfort her. Azrael is deranged so even though she's now trying to make amends, she's still causing trouble by working for him. She tries to resist him but her one ally gets left behind to help her escape and dies. She finally reunites with Kira but before she can even make amends, Creuset (the one she trusted) murders her. It's nice she at least got to apologise but it's pretty tragic. She's not a bad person, just a weak person in a really shitty situation. Gundam really likes to hammer in the whole 'war bad' theme and kill off its characters, but SEED made those themes and deaths far more impactful
Man, finally someone with the same thought. It concerns me that manh people ignore Flay's background, a teenage girl who lost her friends (the one she hangs out with in early episode), parents, and her peaceful live in just a short time. This is also why I don't mind when Kuzzey chose to stay at ORB instead of fighting. Flay by all means is not perfect. She is manipulative and discriminative in early episodes but she was given a proper character development right at the very end. The funny thing, people who hate Flay often mention her manipulative side but rarely mention her discriminative behavior. It is like they only saw "oh this girl manipulates Kira" and went through with it until the final episode.
Finally someone who recognizes development. Flay is criminally overhated. She started out as a horrible person but the best and most interesting characters are the ones who start out hatable but become likable by the end, showing that people can be redeemed no matter how bad their sins were
Many people start off like Flay when it comes to war, prejudice takes over and they assume one side is all evil, they see the world as black and white. When Flay was captured, she finally opened her eyes to the grim reality of why the coordinators detest her and her people so much. Flay saw war for what it really was, especially on the shuttle, No good or evil, just hate, she by that point wanted to make amends, but she died before she had the chance, she never got to redeem herself, and she died knowing that. She died as a failure… and that is the greatest tragedy of all.
If only it was actually executed in that manner, much like seed and destiny, you kind of have to love it for what it could be rather than what it is because it is missing quite a few things that make Gundam such a great franchise. There is another side to it, though. The fact that we can make inferences Shows that this series still has potential and is good overall, just a few gripes here and there that keep it from being the best. I come across people who actively hate this series and I understand why, but really? It's not that bad.
Whats super sad, is thats flay spirit trying to talk to Kira. But you know since she’s dead, and Kira ain’t a ghost medium her message gets lost. Still in death, she couldn’t get closure.
Damn right. She was cruel to Kira at the start guilting him into fighting. But she couldn't fight so it made sense for her to get someone else to fight for her no matter how she did it. Ultimately leading to her falling for Kira and regretting her actions. She was a terrible person but an amazing character.

I hated Flay as a person but she's an INCREDIBLE character because she felt the most flesh out. People LIKE her exist! I MET some, and so that's why she was a good "character" in the show. I like her the same way you like villains because they contribute something to the story if written well. People think if you 'like' a morally corrupt character it means you agree with them or condone their actions but no, no that's not how this works. Flay was a very human and believable character with all her flaws and TERRIBLE decisions and Seed would NOT be the same without her.
Flay is one of my favorite in Gundam Seed. She's just being real, I know at the first she hated kira and then she used him just to protect her. But then later I think she learned to love kira. I wish they did not kill her.

SPOILER ALERT for those who haven’t seen Gundam SEED Freedom: Stella still lives within Shinn. Even though Kira and Lacus love each other, the follow-up to GSF could do the same, where Flay still lives within Kira.
She got way too much hate lol. One of the more polarizing characters in the series yet for the most part, she seemed the most human. Even if you didn't like her, anyone acting like she was wrong with how she dealt with her grief and trauma is being a bit ridiculous. People forget she was a teenager. Hell, if she'd moved on and just cried the whole series, I'd have been bored of her fairly quickly and calling bullshit because that's just shoddy as hell. Even if she'd been some lovely submissive princess who forgave and moved past her issues, I guarantee people would have found something about her to shit on.

I hate how the author had to write her off cos his wife was sick and was a fan of lacus.. destiny would've been successful if they stuck with her story and Kira. I so wanted to see her in that Rouge Gundam while earth alliance and blue cosmos use her as their ploy ugh. (the original draft before she was written off was posted online that's why in the game she didn't die instead they stuck with the original storyline about her being rescued)
To this day, i still cried when Flay died. Yes she started out as a bitch and hated and used Kira. But as the series progress, she started to grow as a character and truly loved Kira.
What REALLY twists the knife here? The fact that Kira had actually managed to SAVE the shuttle this time. But then Le Creuset just HAD to be a bastard.
I love female characters like Flay, Misa, Kikyo…ones that aren’t sane, are filled with rage, and are deeply flawed. Such a nice break from female characters like Tohru and Hinata that litter anime and manga. Highly complex characters with complex personalities.

She wanted him to keep fighting until he met his death. In the end she finally forgave him for something that wasn’t even his fault. You don’t decide who lives and who dies. War is cold and bloody, so no matter how hard you try, in the end, there’s always going to be casualties.
Honestly, I hated her character almost immediately and no matter how the series tried to make her look good, she's still an asshole. Every one of her colleagues is visibly helping around the ship while she's just holing in her room. Even little ol' me during those days can spot her BS. For all the characters' death in SEED, I was just relieved she was finally out of commission.
Of all the scenes in Gundam SEED, this one is pretty jacked up (as in Jack Atlas levels of jacked up) in the worst possible moment. Sure, Flay has spent first half of the series trying to use Kira to wipe out Coordinators out of prejudice. Then, when she gets put into the wringer by getting kidnapped by Rau, then witnessing Azrael using nukes on a ZAFT lunar base. Her final moment is tragic in and on itself as she is unable to personally make amends with people she wronged, at least she is able to do so with Kira in spirit.
She should’ve lived and stayed with Kira. She’s actually got a good dynamic and relationship with him. Lacus is just such a boring character in comparison

種～種死の間に関係が深くなったのだろうけど、そこを描かずに種死でいきなりラブラブなっててポカーンよ。キラがフレイの死から立ち直る過程をラクスが支えキラもラクスに惹かれていった…みたいなのをちゃんと丁寧に描いてくれていたらなぁ。

When Flay was captured, she finally opened her eyes to the grim reality of why the coordinators detest her and her people so much. Flay saw war for what it really was, especially on the shuttle, No good or evil, just hate, she by that point wanted to make amends, but she died before she had the chance, she never got to redeem herself, and she died knowing that. She died as a failure… and that is the greatest tragedy of all.

If only it was actually executed in that manner, much like seed and destiny, you kind of have to love it for what it could be rather than what it is because it is missing quite a few things that make Gundam such a great franchise. There is another side to it, though. The fact that we can make inferences Shows that this series still has potential and is good overall, just a few gripes here and there that keep it from being the best. I come across people who actively hate this series and I understand why, but really? It's not that bad.
Whats super sad, is thats flay spirit trying to talk to Kira. But you know since she’s dead, and Kira ain’t a ghost medium her message gets lost. Still in death, she couldn’t get closure.

I loved Flay's arc in Gundam Seed. She was the most human character in the series and such a well written character.

Damn right. She was cruel to Kira at the start guilting him into fighting. But she couldn't fight so it made sense for her to get someone else to fight for her no matter how she did it. Ultimately leading to her falling for Kira and regretting her actions. She was a terrible person but an amazing character.

@@789pp41 she tried to do that and failed. not only cause Kira's performances after that were worse, just see the desert part, due to the fact that he was mentally unstable, but she did not "let him smash", she wanted to have do that in the first place cause she was promiscous and liked it for his looks and for the "hate/attraction" thing both cause he was a coordinator and for the father's thing. she surely wanted to make him feel affection towards her to manipulate him, and she was happy about the masculine competition between him and Sai, being a female, but after the desert part where Kira treated Sai badly, he changed his mind and shunned her when she literally h@r@ssed him jumping on him, and he never gave her his d. again later on. so, based Kira.
I hated Flay as a person but she's an INCREDIBLE character because she felt the most flesh out. People LIKE her exist! I MET some, and so that's why she was a good "character" in the show. I like her the same way you like villains because they contribute something to the story if written well. People think if you 'like' a morally corrupt character it means you agree with them or condone their actions but no, no that's not how this works. Flay was a very human and believable character with all her flaws and TERRIBLE decisions and Seed would NOT be the same without her.
Flay is one of my favorite in Gundam Seed. She's just being real, I know at the first she hated kira and then she used him just to protect her. But then later I think she learned to love kira. I wish they did not kill her.

Stella still lives within Shinn.
Even though Kira and Lacus love each other, the follow-up to GSF could do the same, where Flay still lives within Kira.
She got way too much hate lol. One of the more polarizing characters in the series yet for the most part, she seemed the most human. Even if you didn't like her, anyone acting like she was wrong with how she dealt with her grief and trauma is being a bit ridiculous. People forget she was a teenager. Hell, if she'd moved on and just cried the whole series, I'd have been bored of her fairly quickly and calling bullshit because that's just shoddy as hell. Even if she'd been some lovely submissive princess who forgave and moved past her issues, I guarantee people would have found something about her to shit on.

I hated Flay as a person at first was so incredibly cruel. Knowing that Kira would fight because he told the little girl Kira would protect her and everyone forcing and guilting him into fighting. That was messed up. Then Flay kept on guilting and using Kira making him fight to nearly his death (which is what she wanted since she thought he went easy on Athrun) . She was damn evil and maniacal at the start. But I kind of loved that as a character . Instead of using power and competing with coordinators (which she could never do) Flay used her smarts and got the strongest guy around to fight and protect her. If you're not naturally gifted that's the only choice you have. That was SUPER interesting, it was messed up and cruel but really believable to me. Then at the end she realized how cruel she was and started to really fall for him, and finally died. Flay may not have been a good person but she was an amazingly interesting character and I think the show would've been much more boring without her.

I hate how the author had to write her off cos his wife was sick and was a fan of lacus.. destiny would've been successful if they stuck with her story and Kira. I so wanted to see her in that Rouge Gundam while earth alliance and blue cosmos use her as their ploy ugh. (the original draft before she was written off was posted online that's why in the game she didn't die instead they stuck with the original storyline about her being rescued)

She wanted him to keep fighting until he met his death. In the end she finally forgave him for something that wasn’t even his fault. You don’t decide who lives and who dies. War is cold and bloody, so no matter how hard you try, in the end, there’s always going to be casualties.

Honestly, I hated her character almost immediately and no matter how the series tried to make her look good, she's still an asshole. Every one of her colleagues is visibly helping around the ship while she's just holing in her room. Even little ol' me during those days can spot her BS. For all the characters' death in SEED, I was just relieved she was finally out of commission.

Of all the scenes in Gundam SEED, this one is pretty jacked up (as in Jack Atlas levels of jacked up) in the worst possible moment. Sure, Flay has spent first half of the series trying to use Kira to wipe out Coordinators out of prejudice. Then, when she gets put into the wringer by getting kidnapped by Rau, then witnessing Azrael using nukes on a ZAFT lunar base. Her final moment is tragic in and on itself as she is unable to personally make amends with people she wronged, at least she is able to do so with Kira in spirit.
Flay’s Japanese voice is so nice and so was her original dub voice.
