I love the downtown fare system and take advantage of it a lot, since I live near the downtown zone border at Grant Street. It does seem silly to me that I can't get a cheap fare if I want to go the other direction, four or five stops to Stevens Square
Has Metro Transit ever considered changing the downtown fare system to a 'Kurzstrecke' fare system like in some German cities? Kurzstrecke means "short stretch" and means you can get a cheaper fare, anywhere on the system, if you're only traveling a short distance (in Cologne it was four stops"
I think this could encourage greater ridership for short trips that people otherwise end up walking, since $2 seems steep for the short length of the trip. Currently you can do that but only downtown, not anywhere else on the system

So if the ride is free but you pay 50 cents,
ISN'T THAT LIKE NOT FREE AT ALL??????🤔

Rides are free on the Southbound Route 10 and the Northbound Route 18 along Nicollet Mall, and $.50 within the Downtown Zone. You can view more info on our Free Ride buses here: www.metrotransit.org/free-ride-buses
