Low key I wish they made Jonathan an artist too like Clary and their mother for the show. They already deviated quite a lot with him anyways, so I think it would've been a huge narrative gut punch to Clary to see all the similarities between her, her brother and their mother, layered with his demonic urges and their father's upbringing.
Maybe more scenes in the apartment and Jonathan not obliging to let her out at the start, going to grab food for them and Clary wandering around the apartment like in the books at first. And she stumbles on his room and finds paintings done by him with visible confusion, longing and disgust on her face. The conflict on her face visible because she sees these tiny threads connecting her demonic brother with her and her mom tugging at her heart, but at the same time he is unpredictable and has done so many bad things that she cannot forget.
Also just in general I believe that the true Jonathan raised by Jocelyn would've been an artist too like Clary. Clary drawing, Jonathan painting like their mom. For all the weird stuff, Valentine also admired art we know that much. Music and his wife's art. So my headcanon is forever that in season 1 in the alternate timeline episode, Jonathan is off in university somewhere studying art.
Or maybe architecture, for a twist? Still employing the Frays' pull towards creating and art. So the show, instead of the boy with green eyes, could've had the boy with red hair and paint on his hands in Clary's vision.
Also Luke oozes artist dude vibes so that helps.
