If missed on the Soto sweepstakes, definitely get Walker for 1B and either Burnes or Fried to boost the rotation. Move Judge back to RF and Dominguez to LF while making the trade for Bellinger to fill CF.
With Volpe @ SS and moving Chisholm, Jr to 2B where he’s a natural fit, you just gotta figure out 3B. Bregman is not the answer. No way do you sign that guy under any circumstances after the scandal. Dude should be blacklisted for life. Idc if he wants to play for ‘free’. Nope. No way!
You got Cabrera you can put @ 3B if DJ can’t find his swing and doesn’t show he can play big league ball anymore.
Those options would make the Yankees as strong or stronger defensively for longer than signing one guy for $600-$700M+ who has just as much offense as the options mentioned above but doesn’t field his outfield position very well.

    Yes we need this

Why don't people think the Yankees can't go after Walker and maybe a Buhler or Snell even if they get Soto back?..... They just won't need a Bellenger signing

This actually improves defence, pitching, and gives you a couple more tough outs versus just Soto. I love Soto but I hope we don’t wait too long, miss out on him, and have limited options because we waited on him to make a decision and other options could be taken by teams that knew they were never in the running for Soto. I bet my next paycheque that FA’s aren’t going to get burned by waiting the FA market as that has proven to be a fool’s path as FA’s that wait, generally get terrible deals ], no spring training, and under perform.

To be honest... We need to be making some of these moves even if we DO retain Soto..
Walker, Adames and Burnes should definitely be on the list

Bregman, Walker, Bellinger and Burnes is crazy

Yeah since only burnes is the real difference maker and as much as i want walker he is 34 so expectations from him shouldnt be very high imo

Anyone that wants Bergman or Admaes on the contracts they’re gonna get is insane and as far as a “great” middle infielder…the guy literally fell off a cliff defensively last year. Replacing Soto doesn’t happen via this free agent market.

I’ve grown ok with it if they don’t sign Soto. Soto is awesome. And I’d hate to see him go but getting more players that are solid ball players I don’t hate.
But for Bellinger you don’t trade to play him in CF. He’s too oft injured to do so. Play him at first.
Leading off that idea. Walker is going to have interest from other teams. He’s projected for 3 year deal. More teams involved not only increases cost for a 34 year old on opening day. But might force the team who signs him to add a 4th year. Big no. Don’t need another guys 36,37 making $22-25ish million who can’t hit anymore. He may hit right though age 40 but chances aren’t high.
I don’t see them getting Burnes. He’s going to cost a lot and likey 6-7 years. Through age 36/37. It’s more likely they’ll get Fried bc he’ll be cheaper than Burnes but similar length. Snell would cost most but his age warrants 4 year deal maybe 5.
I like Adames or Bregman. Bregman can’t go over 5 years. No more last 35 for non superstars. Adames at 6 years wouldn’t be bad bc he’s 29 so that’s 35. I like Adames as a player.
But what was the comment that Bregman has played 3rd base before??? 995 games of 1135 in majors has been at 3rd. And he just won gold glove. Not sure what that meant 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ he IS a 3rd baseman. Only issue is he’s gonna be 31. So 5 year deal is pushing it. Especially with Bergman’s down year offensively compared to his career numbers.
Signing either guy for 3rd puts Jazz back in the position he’s played most in majors. Either guy at 3rd and Jazz at 2nd and Bellinger at 1st or Walker on 3 year deal TOPs. Makes infield defense much better.
My personal choice for first would be Santana. Switch hitting good glover, with 20+ HRs and will be a 1 year deal or 2 with buyout/option. Doesn’t lock anyone up long term and despite Santana being oldest 1st base options, feel short term fix is better.
The issue with all of this is the Yankees have to make multiple moves on sought after guys.
After Rodon we heard they have something big in works. There was nada.
They want to get guys at best value. As they should. But if you lose Soto and want to fill multiple spots, you’re going to have to pay little more bc many other teams will be involved.
Losing Soto and going after these guys mentioned requires 4,5 different moves/signings.
The likelihood is they get 2 done.
So that’s the big concern. It’s all nice and dreamy to think “oh we don’t get Soto , then get all these FAs who other teams are after” and think they’ll go 5/5 or 4/4 or get more than half. It’s not likely. I wouldn’t put $ on it.
I like the idea of these guys. Judge back in RF. Dominguez in CF and one guy I like for LF is Profar. They won’t even be in talks with him likely. But he’d be OF id look at if they lose Soto. That way all 3 OF positions are playing their actual positions. No one saying out of position.

Worse OFer than Soto. And keeps Judge out of position weakening out OF defense. Plus he’s HRs and not much else. He can’t play LF at Yankee stadium. Not well at least
