Joe Balaz: Stories From a Hawaiian Poet

Hawaiian poet Joe Balaz is joined by Hawai'i State Poet Laureate (2023-2025) Brandy McDougall, and professor of Hawaiian literature Sherilyn ho’omanawanui, in this enriching in-studio discussion.
Balaz was born and raised in Wahiawa on the island of O‘ahu, and is of Hawaiian, Slovakian, and Irish ancestry. His writing, visual poetry, and artwork have been published in national and international journals and anthologies. Throughout his career, he has passionately advocated for Hawaiian and Pidgin literature.
