- Each year I do a race with my Dad. This year, after a mechanical issue in race 1, I had to start race 2 at the back. Here's my onboard with an explanation of my strategy and technique.

I tend to do this little challenge called "last to last" when simracing.
I like doing the first to last challenge
@@ehvmerxerk reverse grid starts in a nutshell
@@ehvmerxerk first to alt-F4ing
I do the same thing lol I’m slow
I do the first to dumbass shenanigans to last to DNF challenge
"i got a decent start"
overtakes the half of the grid
It’s like putting ai on easy 😂
He Alonso'd the start.
His start was decent, while those other guys had a terrible start.
GP2 engine!
I did that today in a league race on Project cars 2. Given there were only 10 cars on the lineup and I was 7th but I came out in T1 as number 2
You'r so fast!. Faster then the voiceover!
The video is early
Guardrail9Boy that’s what he said..
Epicry10 that’s not what he said, he thinks he can’t keep up with what is going on
Guardrail9Boy no.. it’s clearly not a literal statement. It’s a joke, saying that the driving is faster (ahead) than the voiceover, which it is
Epicry10 eh I don’t think it’s a joke
That start tho - what a Smooth Operator! 🏁🏆
That is one of the Finest Starts for a single car & driver I've ever seen - and with that... The passing of what appears to be half of the cars In the entire race. Thumbs up ☝ for certain on your race that is kick ass. I believe if you pursued an open wheel career in racing - seen you race like that at 15 or 16 you would get snatched up by Red Bulls development team. develiomentt
Lord Mahaveer Maldonado don’t worry that was very cool 🙂👍
Your comments are a little behind the video. Am i right?
Yeah
Voice behind on mine too, thought it was my streaming.
A lot behind
Yep
yes sounds like , maybe from a middle somewhere yes , unfortunately
I tried to go last to first in my debut Amateur race, first ever wet race, first session on track that weekend. On a motorcycle. It ended with me in the hospital with 3 screws in my hip. I did make it from 8th to 3rd though on lap 4. I even passed my rival and proceeded to crash in an epic fashion on the very next corner. Lesson learned. If you're completely out of your element, just take it easy.
Great drive though, and great result.
Wow!
How did you have a rival in your first race? Lol
@@eifelinemaydelacruz8312
It's Devon Butler of course.
@@eifelinemaydelacruz8312 "first ever wet race", not first ever race
I don't want to blow smoke, but that's a stunning piece of driving and really informative commentary. 30 years ago I bought a MK24 Merlyn for the Pre-74 class (£2K from Andrew Stapley) to begin my assault on becoming a winning driver, when my wife was in hospital giving birth to our first son. Fortunately, she was in labour for bloody hours, because Andrew wasn't the easiest of people to negotiate with, but I just had time to nip home and "hide" the car in the garage. And it was pretty much downhill from there...
First race was at Donington. I'd only been able to drive the car for about an hour the week before, and that was when the circuit was covered in snow. Come race day, I qualified in xx place, where xx is a high number. I thought I'd take it a bit easy at the start, on the basis that to win races, first you have to finish. Lights went green, and the entire bloody grid disappeared into the distance before I'd dropped the clutch, not helped by massive wheel spin on the only bit of damp tarmac that I'd managed to position the car on...
Now, I would love to say that despite this setback I charged through the field to come a creditable 4th. Or 3rd. But that would be untrue!
I spent the race toddling around by myself, and apart from the guy who's wheel seemed to have parted company with his car, the entire field lapped me. If I'm honest, I think the winner might have done this twice...
To be fair, there were issues with the car. Instead of 1600cc , Mr Stapley seemed to have sold me something with the pulling power of an Austin 1100. With wheels that all pointed in different directions. And an exhaust he'd pinched off his company Cortina. And tyres that must have been used in the inaugural Formula Ford race, with wheels to match. And, and, and....
Towing the car back to Surrey from Donnington in appalling weather after the race in heavy traffic gave me time to think. They were not happy thoughts. Moral was quite low. On the floor. Again, it didn't help that Mr Stapley's bloody trailer seemed to have a mind of it's own over about 45mph. There was one good thing - nobody I knew had witnessed my performance because I'd gone by myself, so total humiliation was only seen by quite a small crowd on the day.
When I got home I managed to get the trailer wedged in our drive, which was both narrow and steep. Just as I thought things couldn't get any worse, my neighbours son came out to watch me destroy one side of the drive wall. Seeing a grown man cry is not a pretty thing, so a bit my lip, and this kid of 17 quite politely suggested I might need some help. By now, I'd got the whole car/trailer debacle wedged into a seemingly irrecoverable position, ruling out use of car, trailer and Merlyn ever again, plus use of the drive to access the house. In fairness to my wife, when she came home with our new baby boy, when she saw the Merlyn for the first time she'd taken it pretty well. "What.. is that?", she said. And then pretty much nothing for the rest of the week..... Given that the only way to get to and from the house would now require climbing gear and abseiling without being able to use the drive, it was handy that this 17 year old kid said, "Look, I think it might be easier if I sorted this..." And he popped into the car and did just that. I could have kissed him. I think I might have.
We get chatting. It turns out he's doing an engineering apprenticeship at a factory on what used to be Croydon Aerodrome. His job, and I kid you not, is to maintain VC10 engines for the RAF's transport and tankers. There is nothing he doesn't know about mechanical stuff. I mentally forgive him for the constant scream of his Apprila 125 at all times of the day and night, and he says he'd really like to be my mechanic. Yippee. By the end of the week I've taken the precaution of having "Spanners: Brian S" stencilled on the side of the car. No back now, young man, I think. His father is delighted. I think he views me as feckless, reckless and possibly a bit deranged, but he does think my wife is normal. "That's a great idea. At least it will keep the little sod out of any more trouble".
Brilliant driving sir!! "Last to first": now all I need is to apply the same principle to my entire life lol
well you messed up on the start
Kassidy Chan well... that hit pretty hard😂
If i mess up a race in sim racing, i restart. Maybe you should try that. One cant change the past, but one can change its own future.
@@kerssed damn
This is really "real racing 3" game level 😂 12 cars in one lap INSANE
Your ability to explain what is happening is phenomenal. I just discovered your channel and am now hooked. Thanks and keep up the great work.
How can someone be so humple? You say you were lucky when we can see how awesome a driver you are, no wonder the channel keeps growing and growing. Much love from Brazil.
You made most of them look like they were standing still. It was more like watching a video game than a real race.
0% AI in F1 2019
Ha lol
I'd love to see this video again, with no commentary on the cars, and just the thought-processes behind each pass after you got free of the pack.
What a driver. The outclass is just overwhelming. Shut down half of your cilinders and you have the perfect MCLAREN Honda Fernando Alonso simulator experience.
i live all the way in los angeles you are my mentor and my teacher. Insanely grateful for the content you put out. Thank you.
What an absolutely excellent drive and rather modest voiceover. I thoroughly enjoyed it ....well done. Thankyou 👍🏽🇬🇧
Great driving pal ...
I race the formula 2000 series ,and i can tell you hit the corners perfect.
Well done ...
Have you ever taught of increasing the drivatar difficulty?
Your supreme car control and scouting of the grip before the start let you even put a front wheel on the grass twice while gaining time. on lap1-2. Brilliant stuff. Your are a great explainer of technique. I'm glad you found instructing as an amazing use of you talents.
Its satisfying when you watch this and can predict what your doing from my iracing experience alone. Makes me feel i am on right track. Much respect watching your videos
I was randomly searching for driver61 racing 🏁 style and came up here. Amazing to watch you changing the way of driving 🚘 based up on your position, understanding the track, opponent driver's psychics etc what not. You were truly a inspiration for me. All the very best for your future videos sir. My respect towards you was increasing while watching your videos one after the other consistently. With lots of love from your mad fan staying in india 🇮🇳.
A master class in racecraft, well done! The Formula Ford is great for demonstrating how you use ALL of the track, and then some. It looks like you nailed the setup for those conditions. Your commitment on corner entry was frightening. Great that you got the chance to be out there with your dad!
Congratulations for the beautiful race, hugs from Brazil.
Congrats on your victory but i would like to suggest next time double checking your audio to video alignment as youve been about .5s behind or so on describing the whole video lol.
5 not .5
Have been a fan since the donington and brands hatch lap records, I find myself getting faster and faster with every video of yours I watch, the tips are much appreciated!!!
I love last to first races. Great fun. I always watch those videos.
My favorite race of all time of mine was when racing Formula Mazda at Thunder Hill. Started row 2 or 3, don't remember exactly, due to an off in qualifying. At the start I got a good drive into T1 as planned. Unfortunately, the cars in front did not, leaving no room. So lift, and off I go to sit and watch the whole field go by. So I work my way back to a great battle for 2nd that was really fun. Not a 1st, but then, I wasn't going to get 1st anyway even if I hadn't looped it in T1.
This is your track mate. You've got the lap record and everything. Legend
The consistency and precision in your lines, woha.

This is exemplary and everything I would wish to see. It's a lesson in energy conservation. Excellent
Great stuff Scott! How lovely to have an annual visit to the FF Festival. Love it there. Not sure why they got rid of Formula Ford as the first step from karts to single seaters. It was SO much more competitive than F4 is and I'm sure it taught more car control as well with the lower grip. Plus FF was so much better to watch.
this is what i struggle with most, passing people safety while maintaining the line
Props to your dad for providing such a great car capable of doing what it did. Great racing!
When the AI is set at 70% 🤣
You just be really fast.
No way! That happened to me as well just a few weeks ago in my first race. Gear linkage snapped in the semifinal. Good Job. Looks like a big field and plenty of fun!
Hell yeah. You looked like you were shot out of a canon on the start. Clean race, looked smooth, kepted nice and tidy. Great job!! Very good race. Big Congrats. I was happy to see you do well. I watch a lot of your videos so i pull for you mate. Cheers
Like a 5D? Or more rapid fire like a 1Dx?
Well done, you carry nice speed in the faster corners, huge difference in momentum coming out. Enjoy the videos, keep up the good work.
I love these videos! It's great to hear what you're thinking when you're driving through the race!
Very interesting to see ans have you overlay your thoughts and point out things that I didnt see at all. Thank you man. Very nicely done.
Enjoyed seeing you putting the theory into practice. Really good watch, and great performance.
You're a stallion and very humble. Great race!
Damn, the consistency before Surtees/Clearways almost always hitting the grass but just inch perfect every lap. Nice!
People can think that he was just lucky winning because of the start, but as the race goes on, you actually realize how good, fast, professional and consistent per lap is. He could have win without that "lucky" start
A great practical proof of your expertise!
Very well done. That was a joy to watch from grid to flag.
Great respect on your skills and especially how you keep your kindness.
Love the Senna reference when you said Pure !!!
Impressed, entertained subscribed. Love motor racing but can barely bring myself to watch F1 any longer it's so tedious. This would get me out of bed at 3am to watch.
Absolutely stunning racing...wow
iracing graphics are getting so good!
Well done!!! Starting from the back.. that first lap usually indicates a lot .. if you get lucky enough for the right opportunities & accidents to appear, and blow through over 1/2 the field, then ya got a chance. Then add on random lucky help from lap traffic, and a guy up front who chooses to drive off-line to block... they usually make a huge mistake going "off script" like that.
Must have been amazing to race with your dad there! Sorry ya didn't share the podium. My dad Jay Pollock raced there, I would have loved to ran a few laps with him.
When you set the AI to 0% in a racing game
Wonderful race. Good job Scott!
Scott is more brave in real life than I am in a sim!
Scott bullying half the grid over just lap 1, you love to see it, folks! :D
Great drive Scott! and good vehicle dynamics insights!
Great Video.....Ahhh Brands ...classic track... ruined it when they changed Graham hill bend..i raced ff1600 national championship in 93... rookie of the year stepped up into zetecs and got to race with some of the best drivers in the world Jenson Button, Mark Webber, Dan Weldon, Marc Gene, Jason Watt.... were great times... The FF Festival back then had 8 qualifying heats with drivers and top teams from around the world, Van Diemen, Swift, Vector, Mygale and even Burt Ray's Brands Hatch Chassis came out for that Weekend... Cheers
Good to hear. Perhaps you raced same time as Jan Magnussen too maybe? Can't remember the exact year but he won the festival one year I went. I was helping out with a team running Burt Ray chassis. Was certainly a great occasion back then.
Nice drive! Is this a vintage Formula Ford class? Those cars all look to be late 70's vintage, and it looks like you're using the older bias ply tires as well instead of the cantilevered tires. I've driven a few FF 1600's in Solo competition and you're 100% correct, they are pure cars that really reward smooth and consistent driving. The kind of driving you put a clinic on for in this video.
You have a classy and healthy way of being full of yourself 😄 Great job!
Great video Scott. I was marshalling up at Druids for this meeting. Always enjoy FFF
This was a joy to watch
Greate race! The gearbox problem that your father had was unfortunate :(
Yay more Driver61!
Also, First!
Consistensy is key. And also know the track better than your own front pockets
Dang boy, you made it look like driving against Gran Turismo AI. 😆 Very nice!
Having worked on one of these cars for over a month (it still doesnt work right) to see them running is cool, especially to see how they handle
Would love to come watch you race again, I'm very close to Brands Hatch!
Nice one lad, looks like such a good track as well
Great driving hope you win more races
Good that you consider luck as part of the result, but it is a small part. Well done.
These cars look super fun. Light and not much downforce. It might be just the driver :)), but they seem to be relatively easy to drive near the limit.
Great drive. Enjoyed your commentary. What a bugger you couldn't share the podium with Dad this time :-/
Nice driving. I was unsure of what I was seeing but did I detect quite a bit of oversteer on trail braking? It was so smooth that I barely saw any counter steer. Really nice work.
What a fantastic race (although shame about your Dad). One to remember I'm sure. Wonderful footage and Senna like first lap. Well done you !!!
Two things; since quarantine I have been watching more older f1 races. Not sure if you get this, but you look a bit like young jenson button. Also, driving styles are similar?! Maybe???? Both of you are silk smooth. At least compared to me.
WoW, masterclasses in passing. Am I watching Hamilton in his 2006 F1 race?
Those cars look fast.
Well done! You seem to overtake a lot of people in Clearways. Any idea why they would position to the left and leave space open for you to go on the inside? Worried about wet track there maybe? Thinking about a faster exit to catch you back by the end of the start / finish straight? Even the driver you overtook for the class lead kept himself out there.
Great driving, good work! Congrats.
Keep up the videos, very helpful.
Looks like a fun little car to race!
Sing us "yellow" (coldplay) .... seriously, great stuff 61!
Superb driving Scott 👌🏻
I love the oversteers. I this your style, or it is because the car type?
Man. You're drivin, drivin!
Seb Vet shouldve thought about how bad his car felt before trying to send a dive bome on Sainz. He actually locked up before crashing. He wouldve spun on his own anyways. You have to adapt to the car. Great video Scott.
Good job mate! Congrats on the victory!
incredible camera angle. Can we get this with sound?
Beast mode first lap!
i didnt even know there was a class like this, its ok that i like formula 2 and 3 more than f1 but this just became my favourite one i think
Nice comeback
Nice race!!
great video, can you make the engine sound louder ?
ilove your tips its done me a world of good me so much on sim racing
Not saying last to first is easy, but sometimes it's better to start last than starting first, because you overtake the slower cars and gradually build the confidence, in a matter of a few laps you already got an insane pace and when you see the instant reward returning, you keep going even better.
When you were putting the front right wheel on the dirt on the first and second lap I got scared - I still can't see where the courage comes from, at that speed...
Oh wow this brings back some memories, is your dads car a Royale rp29 ?, yours looks like a crossle, it also looks like a Lola t540e, I rubbed shoulders with senna but he was in the Esso & shell rounds
Lovely to see some van deimons too
Cool
The World Driving dna comes through but sadly he had to pass his father, Sir Nigel. That was a great drive and win. Racing is difficult.
That start - "Am I playing on easy?!"
