To me the outstanding issue is that the rockets don’t have any elite 3 point shooters. Their best shooter is Ben McLemore who is 27th best in the league and the next best shooter is Danuel House, 36.3% and league average is 35.8%.
If you’re gonna go small and you’re counting on making a lot of threes, you’d better have the personnel to hit them. Look at the Warriors “death lineup”. They had three elite shooters, Durant Curry Thompson all above 40%.

    • @TheUltimateRage

This is absolutely incorrect! The problem is that the Lakers play tenacious defense, slowing down the pace of the game (Rockets have one of the fastest-paced teams in the league), and the Lakers have done an excellent job keeping Houston away from the 3-point line. Houston is at their best when they're jacking up 40-50 3s a game. However, Lakers have held Houston to their lowest 3 point attempts this season.

I believe small ball is only applicable when you install a motion offense in it whether it's motion weak or strong, certain series out of Princeton or Triangle(even without the initial post feeding)

Lakers got 2 players who REALLY turn it up in the playoffs:
    Playoff LeBron and Playoff Rondo.
They earned those nicknames. Fans gave them the nickname.
On the other hand this fool Paul George calls HIMSELF Playoff P when he never earned it. His comment was even laughed at by his own teammates Russ and Melo.
Here’s a lesson in egotism and arrogance.

Small ball works in the regular season. But when you play 4,5,6 games against the same team in the playoffs, the other team will adjust and change their defense to defend the small ball offense.

The important key is that the Lakers are not just taller but also can match their speed and quickness so the only way for the rockets is to double their speed and catch quick then shoots.

It's not about small ball, big ball; it's about Mike D'Antoni and James Harden who never beat strong teams.

    • @Sotanath86q

You do realize it's hard to beat a #1 seed right? The series would be 2-2 if not for Westbrook which is pretty damn good against the best team in the West led by a top 2 all-time player. I don't get how Harden and D'antoni are shit for competing and losing to incredibly strong opponents with little help (CP3 injured, Westbrook trash) the last few years.

@@Sotanath86q Yes, it's very hard to beat a team led by LeBron James, but Harden always disappears in the last 4 mins of the game. CP3 got injured because he played so hard to fight, and as always, Harden got lost in the last 4 mins of that game too. D'Antoni always makes the wrong decision in the 4th quarter. No doubt Harden and D'antoni are good, but they are not among the best.

Instead of blowing it all up, they should change the system a bit to share the ball more. The numbers are correct that 3s and layups are what you should do, but they need to be more efficient. One way of doing this is to share the ball like the spurs and heat do. If russ and harden are scoring over 30, then something is wrong. share the ball

I'd copy/past GS offensive scheme. Have Harden move around, let Russ initiate offense, more post ups, etc.
Not even if you have Steph Curry and Klay Thompson with Harden would the current Rockets offense that just has Harden watching 4 on 5 work.
You need to show at least some effort.

Small ball is a good play but it can’t be your entire roster for an entire season and playoff run. In high school my team went against a team of bigger guys than us and we experimented with a small ball lineup which worked very well because we could double a big guy in the post and steal the ball for a quick 2 on 1 fast break since we were faster as small guys. However eventually they figured it out and we put the usual lineup back in and we kept switching between the two. Managed to win the game against a team that would’ve beat us if we played only small ball or only regular basketball because we had an adaptive offence and defence. If the rockets still had a big man so they can switch between small ball and regular basketball they could win more often as they’ll have more options than just small ball.
