I am currently suffering from ECF 4 months now. I had an ileostomy for 1 year due to Meckel's Diverticulitis, had it reversed then an ECF occured, had surgery 3 days after the formation of ECF then re-occured after 10 days. Talked to a gastronterologist which had me try octreotide which worked, closed the fistula then another formed. Every time my fistula closes another one breaches my skin, some days i have 300cc below output some days i have 300cc above output. We talked to a colorectal specialist which told me that surgery is not an option since i had 4 surgeries in 12 months so he gave me a protocol of upping my vitamins and minerals intake along with high protein and caloric intake. Hoping for the best, this past 4 months made me feel like I don't have a life, it was even better when I had my ileostomy, sometimes making me regret that I had my ileostomy reversed. Thank you for the additional information!
I had an ileostomy reversal last week and now I'm still in the hospital on NPO, nurses are having a hard time locating my veins, difficult to have site for intravenous fluids.
I’ve been plagued with the encontanus fistula located where my rectum was located. After having stage 3 colorectal cancer my guess is the weakness from radiation then along side with having a colostomy the fistula had started. I’ve been leaking bowel for 5 years now sometimes buckets of fluid that’s beyond control. It has made my life very stressful. I also developed a parostomal hernia that’s the size of a woman’s beast size. My hernia has played a part in causing my fistula to become more complicated
I'm so sorry you had to go through so much. I honestly pray your fistula closes and the hernia reduces in whatever way possible with no complications. God be with you
I'm sorry, I have a question for you. Regarding tube feeding, which one has a contraindication for tube feeding: low output fistula or high output fistula?
