15:12 I second this. I feel skrillex's reputation as "the wub wub robot fart guy" is one he doesn't deserve at all. Out of the mainstream dubstep era, I found some of his work was the stuff that aged by far the best, some of which I still enjoy to this day. In the music production community, skrillex is almost worshipped for his crystal clean mastering and sound design, which you can hear if you listen back to tracks like Try it Out or Bangarang. That being said, it doesn't seem like he's the best at organizing collabs that he really meshes well with, especially in DGTC, and please remember that skrillex is not personally responsible for AJR.

I really appreciate you giving an EDM artist a shot, but as someone who's been deep into dubstep since 2014, dubstep is not dead. There's so many incredible artists right now but because people hear dubstep, they think of 2010 Skrillex and instantly call that sound dead because they never saw the sound grow. Think about it, it's been a really long time in music since there was a new genre of sound before EDM/Dubstep. Of course things aren't always gonna age, the genre itself is like 20 years old. And the people who are associated with dubstep stopped making it a while ago and went mainstream, so people think it's over, but it's not.

Correction there Brad, dubstep is very much not dead, much like how the older dubstep scene kind of vanished after Skrillex brought in the brostep sound, what has been left behind are essentially three or four major directions that are derived off both brostep and its lesser talked about cousin, riddim: Future riddim, tearout, colour bass, and modern hybrid trap.

Quest For Fire is Skrillex demonstrating his mastery over sub bass as a producer, in a variety of forms. Bass house, UK dubstep, hybrid trap, whatever the subgenre, it still has that sub bass thesis to tie it all together. Don't Get Too Close has nothing to tie it all together besides a general vibe of "lower energy" and it really hurts for that. Skrillex's greatest strength is his production. QFF utilizes that production skill as its uniting element, and DGTC feels like it wants to utilize it too, but it always feels so forced so it can still fit under the umbrella of Skrillex. If he wants to be a pop producer, he needs to cut ties with that EDM drop style for it to sound natural, because this ain't it.

Quest for Fire's cover art gives me 70's prog rock vibes. Might be that I forgot exactly how Argus by Wishbone Ash looked like, but that's what I'm going with.

    Brad, Dubstep isn't dead 🙁
It's like 10x more fleshed out than the mainstream stuff from 10 years ago and it has evolved into many different interesting sub-genres. And some of the most innovative and creative producers ever are active in the dubstep scene right now, e.g. SVDDEN DEATH, Muerte, Space Laces, beastboi or Hukae.
If you think the sound is "dead", please consider giving these artists a chance and hear for yourself.
    No offense 🫶🏽

It's definitely nothing like Burial but it def feels less out there and douchey than his old music. It's more down to earth and nice too. It doesn't provide the profoundness of the music I usually prefer or the creative depth, but it still sounds like he's kinda got back to the actual dubstep roots a bit and it feels more appreciative about the genre too. If Brostep is the equivalent of a dumb Jock, this is that Jock Maturing and developing more of a genuine tone.

I enjoyed Dont Get Too Close, not as much as Quest For Fire, but still quite a bit. Truth is, Sonny now has 2 main audiences: Electronic music enjoyers and mainstream pop fans. He has to please both so two albums make sense. Problem is, one of those audiences only work with singles; Quest For Fire was great because it was trying to be something different and fresh, Don't Get Too Close didn't because it was a whole bunch of generic singles trying to be an album.
Now, I did enjoy that album, the first and last couple of singles where great. Bibi Bourelly is incredible in every track, Selecta is really fun, Way Back is wonderful (PinkPantheress is amazing!), but some other singles didn't quite do it for me
