A striking adaptation of the classic about the beautiful maiden who agrees to marry a beast and live in his magical castle in order to save her father's life. George C. The best part about this movie, having seen it in 1976 was that George and Trish were married in real life. 💕
*OMG* George C Scott completely won my heart as the Beast💖 I can see why he got an Emmy for this!
Your not alone. He makes a charming Beast.☺️
The romance feels more believable here since these two were married before this special ever aired.
OMG REALLY?? THAT’S SO WONDERFUL- I’m already starting to love this and I want to watch the full movie.
The Best Beauty and the Beast Film ever
This is a better Live Action Beauty & The Beast than the 2017 version.
No horrible CGI characters, black people everywhere in 18TH century France or gay Lefou
Is my favourite version of beauty and the beast
Well, this is definitely up there with Cocteau's 1946 version and the Disney movie, but for different reasons.
Underrated gem, so glad I watched it.
I feel like THIS is the best Beauty and Beast film, aside from the Disney version. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop and how close they became over time, making it feel more believable.
Far more believable than that cruddy 2017 one.
I absolutely agree with this answer. I loved that they got to know each other and had fun and played and learned from one another. Disney still my fave but this one was a great interpretation of the story now my 2nd fave version
Not to mention they were an actual real life married couple before and during this they were married until George's death in 1999
@@sasoridokueki5754 Try the French 2014 one.
My absolute favorite BATB ! I remember when this came out in the 70's - George C Scott is the ultimate Beast ! Thank you, thank you !
Saw this on TV as a 9-10 year old and have wanted to see it again ever since. Thanks for posting this movie !
Wow, didn't know I'd ever see this again! Watched it for the first time in 1987 or so. I can still recite most of it!
I remember this from so long ago when I was a little girl. What a wonderful moment that was when it came on the Hallmark Hall of Fame special and I popped down right in front of the tv to watch one of my favorite fairy tales and live the magic.
both of these movies are awesome this one and the animated film 😎🤔👀🌟☘🌹🌻☀️💕💞🌈🌎🌏🌍☺️❤💖🥰 love the animated most never could've see it again 😢😢😢
THE BEST MOVIE EVER
Old is gold❤
I recall seeing this in 1979, I have never seen since, this is an absolute classic, George. C Scott performance is Tremendous, Disney is Excellent, but this is the Greatest Beauty and the Beast film of them all, if anything rather sad, when Belle ventures outside the castle and sees the Beast eating, he looks so humiliated, that is one sad part ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'd forgotten about this version and hadn't seen it since it came out. I'd forgotten just how beautiful Ms. Van Devere is. The makeup on the Beast is so very similar to the old pictures of looking more like a boar than a lion. I was so glad to see this again. l noticed that the actress portraying Belle's sister Susan was none other than Patricia Quinn: Magenta in Rocky Horror Picture Show. Thanks so much for posting this.
Ох,как же тяжело с моим посредственным знанием английского языка смотреть этот фильм. Однако оно того, несомненно,стоит.
Химия между персонажами так умилительна. Обожаю эту экранизацию.
IS BEAUTIFUL!!!
I just finished watching it and I loved it!!
I will be visiting the castle filming location sometime after June . And I have never seen this movie until now that is. And I will probably do some filming there as well as it does look like an awesome filming location.
In real life, they actually married until George C. Scott's death
I hope it was a good marriage between them. I've read real stories about celebrities marriages. Some of them end not well when they pass on. They have a lot of unanswered questions, like why they disinherited their children from their previous marriages. If it was up to me I would make sure to provide everyone a piece of their inheritance. Not leaving one person out!
@@BlackCatFilmProductions Scott's previous 4 marriages lasted 5 years or less. His final one 30, till his death.
@@BlackCatFilmProductions They would butt heads at times and one whole they lived separately. They then reunited, appreciating each other more and more. And they remained together until Scott's passing 18 years later. They were married for a total of 30 years
Saw this when it came out...deeply affected me. Thought I'd look it up and see if it was on youtube...so very good!
Beauty and the beast is one of my favorite fairy tales and Disney films of all time and this is the only 1 I think that is truer the the Madam La brance de boumount fairy tale love it.
Disney Reviews By Matt it my favorite too out of all disneys
Prince de Beaumont
I loved this movie when it first came on tv. Loved the Beast....now I live down the street from a fella who had George C. Scott as his neighbor. They would go over to their house to watch the Oscars and George C. Scott was his baseball coach. Pretty cool !
This was really good. I enjoyed it. George C. Scott was great as the Beast and I loved the beast make-up. Trish Van Devere was also great in this. While I love the Disney version, this was also great and I loved every minute of it. I had no idea that this existed until now so thanks for sharing. I would call this movie a underrate gem and a classic. If you like the story of Beauty And The Beast, then this is for you. I give this film four out of five stars!
Such a beautiful heart touching movie.. I liked and enjoyed watching it very much. It is very easy going and true to the story. It is so obvious that they are comfortable with each other ;being a husband and wife in real life. Thanks for uploading ,much appreciated.
You're Welcome.
Enjoyed this movie a lot. So glad I watched it. I loved that they got to know each other and had fun and played and learned from one another. Disney still my fave but this one was a great interpretation of the story, now my 2nd fave version
Thank you for the movie. I'm delighted and grateful to have had the opportunity to watch it after many years.
You are very welcome.
Vintage Vineyards this is one of my favorite thank you 😊
Dung Nguyen Bui
You're welcome.
Its a interesting version of Beauty and the Beast. I certainly love the home-made magic in the movie.
This is my favorite version so far. And I’ve watched literally every version of beauty and the beast romances. I’m an expert. The acting is so much more realistic and genuine like 22:48 for example. That is real fear. I also love how the conversations flow realistically. This is such an underrated fantasy romance film.
I'm also a big fan of Beauty and the Beast! 🥀🌹I also try to find and watch every possible version I can get on my hands. Do you maybe have some suggestions where I can find more or ones that you specifically enjoyed?
@@janesterk1942 there is a comic version which is also really beautiful. I think you can see it on tumblr for free. It’s called “Megan Kearneys beauty and the beast.”
@@bliss3821 Thank you so much, will definitely check it out 👍🏻🥀🌹
@@janesterk1942 there is also a series called swamp thing which is also really cool. Which versions have you watched?
@@bliss3821 This 1976 version, one from 1971 (in a other language but has English subtitles, which is personally my fave version), 1981 version, then the 1991 and 2017 versions. I've also seen cartoon versions of the movie and read a lot of book adaptions on the fairytale
What a beautiful film, thanks for posting it!
The only things missing are the very nice Hallmark card commercials that came with Hallmark Hall of Fame movies.
This was always my favorite production of this story. Thank you for posting it.
I remembered this from all those decades ago. I remember the part where she saw him eating. But I like Disney better, as almost all of this movie just has two people in it, while the Disney movie had people like characters throughout it and that castle really was enchanted, with the talking candle and talking clock. Plus, here, at the end, they seem so awkward around each other.
Thank you for this! I discovered this movie through youtube. And I have to say it’s one of my favorite adaptations of this story!
Thank you!
Great Opening
I'm thrilled to be able to see this again; thank you so much
Quite a nice version which I remember from watching on TV as a child. It has a bit of that slightly flat, literal quality characteristic of 1970s made-for-TV movies but it's not bad at all. Slightly too old actors but lovely locations and wonderful score by the great English film composer Ron Goodwin which really helps. Thanks for uploading. It would be nice to see this version remastered and released on Blu-ray some day.
My introduction to the BATB story was this on syndicated tv and the animated ruby spears special at age 4 36 years ago and i remember also watching the 1987 to 1990 series with my mother, I remember the cannon movie on Disney channel at six and the anime version when I was 7. And also saw the 91 movie three times in theaters at age nine and rented the 1946 version at age twelve
BATB is one of my favorite fairy tales and George c Scott was great in this as beast.
that intro song is great
I LOVE THISS
Lovely story beauty and the beast i love it movie 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
The sound synchronization is just a tad off. Other than that, thanks for this upload. This is a great upload. Scott and Van Devere are adorable together.
Thank You so much!!!!! I'm very happy I can see this movie again :)
Thanks for posting - great version of the story!
Saludos desde Bs As, Argentina.
Thank you so much...
Я люблю эту сказку она, действительно, волшебная
I swear I love this version a 1000 times more than the Disney one!!!
Il più bello 😍😍😍😍
There was a boxer from Africa that was called John The Beast Mugabe. A # of boxers called themselves King Kong.
What does that have to do with anything
Good Job.
Love from guwahati
Eu assisti em 1998 no canal Mundo, muito tempo que não assistia
Trish Van Devere looks like Eva Green here💕ℬℯ𝒶𝓊𝓉𝒾𝒻𝓊𝓁
❤
Olivia Newton John song- Magic.
This is not my favourite Beauty and the beast movie. The special effects are not really professional and the actors are too old 😭 The Beast its more human to me.... But i like the Disney version more!!!! This version is more for adults... But i love the dance scene of this movie, it’s soo typical English!
17:07 ooh that stang
34:43 that’s racist 😅
36:29 lol she’s holding herself back from smiling.
49:27 the sticks are making out

I was eight when this was on t.v. my father ordered me to stop watching it because it was to adult.
Honestly, I prefer the Czech movie because this feels quite forced.
Jean Cocteau's La Belle et la Bete, 1946
Ohh how so sad why the movie it's really so Dark? how can I enjoy to watch this?
Wtf? It ends happy. Are you stoned?
@@criminallyautistic8372 I think she was talking about the picture quality.

Frodo: What do you know of it? NOTHING!
@@criminallyautistic8372 No offence against the actor, I just think the age gap is a little weird that's all.
@@rayniajonson567 Trish was a year younger. One year. Not much of a gap my girl
@@criminallyautistic8372 I guess the site I read from was wrong, I thought he was a lot older.
Georg c Scott war 9 Jahre älter als seine Frau, er ist 1927 geboren, sie 1941
Jean Cocteau's La Belle et la Bete, 1946 is so beautiful and magical.
This version has a modern dialogue, actors are quite old for the role. I could not enjoy it.
