【青森／津軽国一宮】岩木山神社／創建千二百年を越える東北屈指のパワースポット - Iwakiyama Shrine in AOMORI, JAPAN -

岩木山神社（いわきやまじんじゃ）は、青森県弘前市の別名「津軽富士」こと岩木山の南東麓にある津軽国一宮。今から約1200年前の宝亀11年（780年）、青森県最高峰の岩木山頂に社殿を創建したことを起源としています。延暦19年（800年）に、征夷大将軍坂上田村麿が山頂の社殿を再建し奥宮とし、山麓に下居宮を建立。寛治5年（1091年）に下居宮を現在地に奉遷しました。
天正17年（1589年）岩木山の噴火により境内が焼失。慶長8年（1603年）津軽為信により再建が始められ、その後も歴代藩主により造営整備を進めてきました。この大造営よって、名実共に日本の北門鎮護の名社としての威風を備え、また、農漁業の守護神として、津軽の開拓の神として、地元の人々の祖霊の鎮まる場として深く崇敬されてきたのです。この藩政時代再建の社殿は、神仏習合の名残りをとどめ、「奥の日光」と呼ばれるほど秀麗な様相を呈しています。
参道は岩木山への登山道となっており、岩木山の山頂の奥宮へと続いています。手水舎の龍神から勢いよく溢れる水は岩木山からの湧き水は、手を清めるだけでなく、飲むことも可能で、体内に龍神パワーを取り込めます。また、この水は子宝のご利益があるという。また、境内には沢山の蛇が生息しており白雲大龍神の化身とされ、境内で蛇を見ると幸運の兆しとさいわれています。
明治になると神仏分離により寺院を廃止し津軽総鎮守・岩木山神社となりました。古くから現地では、岩木山神社を「お岩木さま」「お山」と呼んで親しんできており、そして、今でも変わらず、岩木山神社は郷土人の心のよりどころとなっています。

Iwakiyama Shrine is the principal shrine in Tsugaru Province, located at the southeastern foot of Mt. Iwaki, also known as "Tsugaru Fuji" in Hirosaki City, Aomori Pref. Approximately 1,200 years ago, it originated from the construction of a shrine on the summit of Iwaki, the highest peak in Aomori Prefecture. In 800 AD, Shogun Sakanoue Tamuramaro rebuilt the shrine at the top of the mountain and made it the inner shrine, and built the Oriinomiya shrine at the foot of the mountain. In 1091, the Oriinomiya shrine was moved to its present location.
In 1589, the precincts of the shrine were destroyed by fire due to the eruption of Mt. Iwaki. In 1603, Tamenobu Tsugaru began to rebuild the shrine, and successive lords continued to improve it. The shrine has been deeply revered as the guardian god of agriculture and fisheries, the god of Tsugaru's development, and the place where the ancestral spirits of the local people are enshrined. The shrine buildings rebuilt during this feudal period still retain the form of syncretization of Shinto and Buddhism, and are so beautiful that they are called 'Oku no Nikko.'
The approach to the shrine is a trail to Mt. Iwaki, leading to the Okumiya Shrine at the summit of Mt. Iwaki. The water that overflows from the Dragon God in the hand-watering basin is spring water from Mount Iwaki.
Not only can you purify your hands, but you can also drink it and take in the power of the dragon god inside your body. It is also said that this water is beneficial for pregnancy.
In the Meiji era, the temple was abolished due to the separation of Buddhism and Shintoism, and it became Tsugaru Sochinju and Iwakiyama Shrine. For a long time, the locals have been familiar with the Iwakiyama Shrine, calling it "Oiwaki-sama" and "Oyama". Even today, Iwakisan Shrine remains the spiritual center of the local people.
