- How to catch a wave on a Foil board. Robert Stehlik and Sam Pa'e give step by step directions and tips on choosing the right spot and technique for catching the wave by paddling front side, placing feet over foil and on center line of board and popping up on the foil by unweighting the feet as the board accelerates. We also show video showing the how we catch waves on both SUP and foil boards. Please also watch How to SUP Foil part 1- Paddling straight here:

Thank you guys for sharing your experience with me! You are good teachers.😊
Thank you! 😃
Appreciate all your videos. And information about gear, training and information.
Thank you for the comment 🤙🏼
I live on the gulf coast of Florida so foiling is the way to go because of small waves but at the same time the waves are choppy fast shallow and steep most of the time so it’s an epic learning curve hahaha
Steep waves are not good for foiling, try to look for softer, crumbly, rolling waves, the kind shortboarders don’t like. I hear Florida is great for foiling, so hang in there. 🤙🏼
Hey this is really good ,I am wondering if you could do some more prone foil surfing videos ?All these videos are awesome including the longish foil safety video .
i realize Im kind of off topic but do anyone know of a good place to watch new movies online ?
I've been curious, do you think someone could prone paddle and pop-up on a SUP foil board in similar conditions and have success getting onto waves? Or do you think the paddle is absolutely necessary for the amount of power you need to get a SUP onto a wave successfully?
I've never been a fan of holding a paddle in my hands, but the close-by spots I'm trying to learn at have waves that are more suitable for SUPs than prone boards. I was thinking about trying to prone surf a SUP board as if its a longboard
Absolutely, you can prone paddle a SUP foil board although you are better off on a narrower board for prone foiling as you don't need as much stability. The main advantage of standing up and using a paddle is that you don't have to stand up during takeoff and can catch the wave a bit earlier.
Helpful
Awesome info mahalo
Glad you liked it, mahalos
so I am wondering, other than the size/shape of the board,..what is the real difference between Sup foiling and other foiling once you are up on the foil? Sure you have a paddle, but...?
One big difference is that catching waves is easier on a SUP as you are already standing when taking off. Due to the bigger board you usually use a slightly bigger foil for more lift. The shorter the board, the easier it is to turn and pump.
@@blueplanetsurf Thanks for the reply. It seems to be as I thought, just a matter of size and related inertia and zappiness issues. Cheers. Thanks for all the great videos and info.
Cool
What volume more or less? I standard SUP a 8'0" 105L and I'm around 180lbs.
I would recommend a similar amount of volume for a foil SUP as you are comfortable with on a surf SUP, maybe a bit more to learn on. For wing foiling you can use a board with less volume.
@@blueplanetsurf Thanks!
I dont have access to a boat, i surf and i sup and ive brought a wing , ive learnt to wing on a skate board and can now wing sup , i want to get a foil next , before i buy a foil will my wing or paddle be enough to learn how to foil with ? do i really need foot straps? why foot straps?
Learning to foil behind a boat will make it much easier but you can learn it without a boat too, of course, it will just take much longer. Start without footstraps, you can add them later if you want more control or do jumps.
I love the video but what about the pump? It's probably so second nature to you but I'm trying to figure out the rhythm of pushing with my legs and pulling on the paddle.
This is part of a series of instructional foil videos. I guess you did not watch video #4 of this series about pumping: ruclips.net/video/diljo6EGDdQ/видео.html
