Hello, for a tropical Island like Puerto Rico the sun is very hot but at the same time we have lot of rain. What type of fabric you would recommend? Thanks in advance!!
I'm hooked on these, except then I thought about animals with large claws vs. fabric. I don't think I would feel very safe looking out my vinyl window into the eyes of a pack of hungry wolves..or a two legged predator with just a knife.
It looks nice I got a shelterlogic garadg it fell apart withen a year how do I know yours is stronger they said they where strong too like if a tear does happen how do you fix it
Windows are great for heat gain - but only if it is covered with lots of insulation when the suns not shing on that area - which looks like the case here
Domes are the way to tame alaska. I first saw someone using a dome in Norway.a person can build a house inside a dome in live In 75 degree weather easily.
ray bon, I lived in Alaska for 5 years. I guess you live in Anchorage are one of the few other cities. Because where I live now, as in places I have stayed in Alaska, bears, cougars and other animals will destroy these structures within a week. There are solutions to such problems, but without them, anybody will be sad as to have much they paid to see it destroyed by wild animal so quickly.
Where in Alaska did you encounter cougars??? I've lived in Alaska my whole life and never even heard of a cougar anywhere in the entire state. Bears are typically skittish; you're not likely to see one near populated areas, especially in the winter when they hibernate. But it's a tent so even a determined dog could probably get into it. You just don't let critters get in - shoo them away, or if you must, kill them. You are carrying protection against dangerous wildlife, aren't you? But back to the tent. When you most need that heat is when Alaska gets the least sunlight. And trust me, 3hrs of weak sunlight isn't going to do you much good. I'm not saying you can't live in an uninsulated dome/tent in the middle of winter but you're going to be cutting a LOT of wood or buying fuel oil.
Walter Rutherford, sorry if my comment was unclear. No, I never saw a cougar in Alaska and as far as I know there are none in the state. My problems with cougars have all been in California and New Mexico. In Alaska I only had problems with bears and a couple of starving moose. As I'm sure you know living up there, moose are almost always easy to get along with except in bad situations where they are desperate. But you know that there is no shortage of dangerous creatures in Alaska. You are giving good advice. My point was that there are creatures in every state that can and will take down a flimsy tent like structure. I've had such problems with lemurs, raccoons and squirrels even. You have made my point saying that even a determined dog can do it. But I wasn't trying to say that I had run into cougars in Alaska. BPX offered to give me a free tour of their northslope facilities, but I never wanted to see polar bear territory. Takes quite the weapon to deal with those guys!
I'm kinda sold on the zip tie Domes hub connector. I think I can see your freestanding rigidity would improve with their system. They aren't greedy pigs btw.
Also , insect and critters invasion ? Why not build a Metal frame around the dome with solar panels on top and free standing solar panels & solar fans.
Completely wrong about the convective heating. The heat does not rise and then cool to go down the other side. Absolutely incorrect. The 1st dome I helped build, and was in and around for several years after it's construction, was 24' in diameter, with a 14' peak height. (sound familiar)? It was heated during the winter with 2 halogen lamps and some recording equipment. If a single heat source is used, and located on a wall away from the center of the room, the heat rising exclusively in that location will disrupt the natural convection around the entire circumference of the space. The heating will therefore not be as even, nor nearly as effective as it could be. A much smaller heat source located centrally is far more efficient and effective than a much larger heat source on an outside wall. Place the heat source in the center. All walls slope inward 360 degrees. The heat rises, and develops higher pressure in the center as more heat rises and gathers. An vertical circular air current will develop around the entire structure, with air rising around the outside edges, climbing up the sloped walls, and being forced downward in a column in the center via natural pressure displacement. Placing the heat source in the center causes the heat, at it's warmest, to mix with the returning air, and be evenly distributed by the downward air current, outward from the center, at the 'living' level. The even dispersion , and constant natural circulation, demands a very minimal heat source to bring the entire structure to a very even and comfortable level. The temperature disparity from ceiling to floor in a structure with a 14' center peak height will be 3 degrees F or less. In a contemporary structure with 8' flat ceilings, the difference is usually 12 -15 degrees F.
it looks so loose on the frame, that would be really annoying with any wind blowing against it. must be a chinese made frame with "american canvas". anyways the thread isnt the biggest factor that goes first, its that big poly window that does, even pacific domes last only 3 years in the sun.
Beautiful structure. I think it would be a great choice in a continuously cold climate, for people with more than a few adults handy, to assemble and when located where there are no two-legged predators near... with guns and ammo, who are quite willing to take your survival food supply. I'd love to see a video that addresses Cooling the unit and staying safe when shtf happens. This doesn't seem practical for singles' survival.
To use the Bosnian war to make a point on how good your product is, is morally questionable. I am sure you can make the same point with another anekdote.
Bas Brinkhuijsen Yes. The Nato has bombed Belgrado for 79 days. With uranium as a gift. To bring Milsovic down. People still suffer from cancer there. And Milosovic was proven NOT guilty.... (After he was killed ofcourse)... Another dirtywar instigated by the Nato through hired guerillias to overtrhrow a nation. All to get one step closer to bring RussiA down as that is their endgame.
You could bitch about that with any exemplary situation which caused human suffering and displacement. The point of their company and products is that shit happens, and when it does you want durable, no nonsense necessities... like shelter... because you could be living in a tent for longer than forty days and forty nights.
I would absolutely live in one of these as a permanent home. Wire it up with electricity and have plumbing set up. 100%
Came for the geodesic dome.
Stayed for the campfire talk about the Bosnian war.
Good video building the most use full dome structure. You’r beautiful shepherd makes the best helper!
Just looking I see zips, what happens if the zip fails and you need that tent up ASAP, no time to hand stich a new zip in ??

It should be of thin metallic sheet In stead
is the fabric fireproof?
LOL, moron....
@@foxmulder3980 when did you finally realize that you have been fooled by your parent about santa clause?
You need to investigate the rocket stove principles, to glean ideas to further improve your wood to heat efficiency ratio.
You can see the original dome and equipment on my channel
no website?
how easy is it to put together?

How can I order one exactly the same as this one?
Do you live in the states? I know a place that do domes just like this
@@Sindralikwho? VitalDomes went out of business

I agree. Disasters in Bosnia and Nepal have absolutely nothing to do with his product unless he's talking about sending relief tents to those places.
No I don't think so. He is building a Emergency Shelter Tent that will save lives. He is part of the Solution.
