Raven was really one of the cutest and smartest young actresses. I knew she was talented beyond her years on the classics The Cosby Show and Hangin' with Mr. Cooper.
Raven literally owned Disney Channel in the early 2000s.
She broke the mold for all other black Disney Channel stars. Not only that, both of her shows passed the 65 episode mark.

Yeah, that comment wasn't wrong and I loathe that title, too (African American). Everyone's ancestry is not from Africa. And truthfully speaking, those born of foreigners now living in this country are deserving of that hyphen (Asian-American, African-American, etc). It's not a bad thing, just a 'correct' thing.

I can't find the source so please don't quote me on this. But Raven said in an interview that since she was a kid, she was told that it's easier for everyone to say "Sem-Mone" instead of "See-mon-yee" (she was most likely told by her parents). So it could go hand in hand with what (black) people were told back then about their names and how it needs to be "presentable". IMO, In the same way she said, "I'm not gonna hire anyone named Watermelondria", it was probably because no one was going to hire her if she was "See-mon-yee".
Again, I don't recall where I saw this interview but I did watch A LOT of them lol

That's so Raven was a great show I'm glad that the show ran for 100 episodes but I'm still mad that the show ended on a cliffhanger just like The Wayans Bros, Family Matters, One on One, Girlfriends, Duckman, My Wife & Kids, Malcolm & Eddie, Moesha, Smart Guy, The Parent'Hood, The Jeffersons, The PJs, The Jamie Foxx Show, etc.
@beaniegee5129 Don’t forget SMART GUY, MOESHA, THE PJs, JAMIE FOXX, THE PARENT HOOD, etc all ended haphazardly.
Notice a lot of our shows end on a cliffhanger or plain cancelled while “their” shows get a nice heartwarming big promotional series finale

The only black shows that ended on a high is Fresh Prince and Martin. But
The shows you mention didn't end on a high note was disrespectful to the cast that help make the show.
I think That’s So Raven aired their episodes out of order, especially the last 4 from Season 4.
TSR didn't end on a cliffhanger. It's finale was a normal episode, where Eddie tried to get his divorced parents back together.
August 15th 2003 was a good day The Cheetah Girls premiered on the Disney Channel the same day Uptown Girls came out in theaters. The 20th anniversary of both movies is this month!!
Raven-Symone's first two albums are so underrated
I remember going to the Hanging with Mr. Cooper taping when I was a kid, I was impressed with her maturity back then, and her song hip hop teddy bear was stuck in my head for years. I didn't like her comment about not bring African American, but she will always be a legend in my book.

I really enjoyed watching her on the screen growing up. Her “label” comment didn’t bother me, but I do think it was a contradiction. She said she didn’t like being labeled but want to be called an American (which is still a label).
The Cheetah Girls 1 and 2 are classics!!!!
I loved her This Is My Time album.

In a video for them. (The channel), Raven expressed being afraid to come out as gay due to Ellen, a comedian, coming out and having it not be well received. Being exposed early to the horrors of being famous, including being told she would be scrutinized 24/7, could not have been helpful.
So the part with her acting and music, I would say her acting career was sky-high than her singer career.

Being black American isn’t a nationality, it’s an ethnicity. I would prefer to be called black American/soulaan because that’s my ethnicity.
