There are tons of OP items in Act 3, which I love because for most of them by the time you can access these items you’re (typically) already at max level and just womping on enemies already anyway
Agreed, I feel like on my first playthrough I just kept getting next level gear every time I finished a quest in act 3. And it kinda allowed me to change my build and my party members builds and that was a lot of fun.
Dude I was playing a Necromancy Wizard and let me tell you just how fucking great it was to have the full Necromancy of Thay book, and this Staff in thebwnd game I felt like a god, finally, my dreams of playing a Necromancer were realized This alone made the game a 10/10 for me
A good necro build is a druid of the spore/wizard necro build. Druid of the spore gets 4 free zombie summons that don't replace eachother AND you can stack other summon spells with it, such as animate dead battalion. With Wizard you can learn necro spells from scrolls to compensate the level difference when you go druid first, and you get a frontline tank druid with a zombie army and, as shown by this staff, high level necro spells so long as you time your cantrips right. Note. Use a feat to get heavy armor so you have more survivability.

@theresagrawe7053 Fun fact, spore druid has more summons than normal necro, so run an animate dead for the battalion for 3 zombie summons, use the 4 free individual fungal zombie summons that come with spore druid as a class action, and get dance macabre for 4 free ghouls. You will have an ACTUAL army. A druid is a good frontline tank, as you know with symbiotic entity so run Balthazars undead ward circlet. Zombies galore as those hit by zombies can burst into temp undead.
10/10 game right? Full of game breaking items and builds. Needs a rework IMO. WAY TO EASY TO CHESSE. Have to actively build sub optimal, and ignore many items, just to have a challenge. Bad design, great story.

You can have unlimited spell slots without this staff. Just get the freecast ability from the ilithid tree, use the spell and then unequip your undies and freecast will refresh, re-equip your undies and repeat the process for infinite spell slots. So as long as your wizard has underwear in there inventory they will have infinite spell slots.
The fact that there is no cap on either how many life essences you can get per day/have at any given time or how high level a spell you can cast with it (not even making higher level spells consume multiple essences?!?) is absolutely INSANE
@@swinskagrypa3385 there a cool mod that let's you kill every enemy in the game with a one time click. You can use it any time after 10 minutes into the game. This mod also uninstalls the game with one click a deteles all game content. It's the ultimate power weapon. Super fun too.

I played as a necromancer for my first time, and you can imagine my absolute joy when I found this after I nuked mystic carrion with disintegrate and fireball in the first turn lol
I just casted a hunger of hadar with Wyll, then a wall of mortal flame followed by a black hole from my sorc to suck everyone into the blazing inferno, which created a nice chain reaction of "Cull the Feak" mind explosions Noice!
I can not stress just how FUN this staff is combined with the Dread Master subclass mod for warlocks. You just have to go see for yourself, You WILL NOT regret it
This thing is crazy broken, anything with hit points counts for the "killed with a spell" part. You can shoot some wine bottles with cantrips in camp and have the essence buff ready to go at the start of every day.
And just go back to camp anytime you want assuming you aren't in combat and reset it but it doesn't really matter since it's as far into the game as it is
Is that still true after the last patch? Because they removed that as a viable option for Rhapsody and I might be a little grumpy if it's still a thing with the staff 🧐🥹
If you combo this with the necronomicon in game the last spell from the book will allow you to summon 5 ghouls giving you a free person to murder for the buff before you leave canp and still having 4 extra servants
Yup. Did this and scribed the dethrone spell too, so my character had a juiced up blight at any time, the higher minimum damage was nice too. Combo this with markoheshkir and free cast illithid ability, and you basically never have to long rest again. I also added celestial haste, if it wasn’t busted enough already.
@joseywales7463 I found it fun. My first playthrough, I ran Tav and Gale as Necromancers, with Jaehira and Halsin as Circle of Spores druids. I routinely had like 20 summons. Elementals and zombies and mummies galore. Act 3 was a laugh, but some fights had so many characters that the game started lagging on my PS5.
You can also use the staff to destroy inanimate objects like chairs or boxes to get life essence. So you can infinitely cast necromancy spells using the souls of ikea furniture

Mind you, some higher levels necro spells have a limit use per day, so Dethrone is only used once. But still neat to save the spell point for another lv5 spell like Cone of Cold or Artistry of War
You can't multiclass in explorer for any builds that use more than 1 class. That being said you CAN set a custom difficulty that is basically explorer with multiclassing enabled.
I only play in honor mode, I honestly don't find the game very engaging in the other modes, and on top of that you don't get to fight against legendary actions
It was patched. Now it's one free spell then it goes away, and also killing someone with free spell doesn't trigger the effect, so it's just one free spell per one spell slot, if every spell you use kills someone The class I think benefits from it the most is warlocks. They have very few spell casts per battle, so this staff kind of helps with that by letting them weave in a couple free Blight casts here and there

No one ever mentions Sorcerers. I play a necromancer sorcerer every single time and this staff is my FAVORITE. I once compared it to the staff stolen from Lucretious, (Staff of Hollows), and thankfully it wasn't as good a necromancy staff. I didn't want to have to kill Lucretious for it. I like her. She's sassy.
Stuff like this is what always stopped my playthroughs, you craft cool and strong builds for each character and then find an OP item that is way stronger and makes your builds feel bad

I found this bug on my first playthrough of the game, I even informed developers about it. But using this bug (or feature) seemed too unfair and I voluntarily refused to use it. It's really too powerful. 😱

I'll tell you exactly where in Act 3 without spoilers. This is what I did, but you can probably do it differently knowing how open this game is. When you get to Act 3, take on a quest for a mystic named Carrion where you gotta find someone named Thrumbo. After that, go find Thrumbo (took a while for me but I didn't think about all the hints you get together) and they'll give you a different quest involving Carrion. Take them up on it and, when you're done, you'll get the staff. I bet you can straight up steal it but I never tried doing that.
@@TheSleepyGoblin now the "life essence" gets depleted after you use it, and you'll have to harvest it again. And also the free spell can't trigger a new harvest, so you have to spend your spell slot and kill someone with it to get another free cast. So realistically it's one free cast per 2 or 3 normal casts

The fact you can pass the staff around is the exact reason they made most items require Attunment in the dnd

Pair it with abyss beckoners and your wizard can solo most encounters.

I believe the Tharchiate "only" summons 4 ghouls, however they are free to summon despite being equal to a level 6 necromancy spell in essence

The only spells with limited usage per day are the ones learned by wizards from one-of-a-kind scrolls. So - Dethrone, Artistry of War, and Deva summon

5 runs of this game and I’ve never killed that guy… I’m still abusing the Arcane Battery bug for high level summons and hero’s feast for free 😂
