Will be staying a night in Kladno in about a month. Seeing Rytíři Kladno play. Any suggestions on things to do after the game? It starts 6pm on a Wednesday night so should get out by 8:30 pm
Sadly barely nothing to do in Kladno, almost everyone works in Prague, they'll arrive in the evening and just spend the night, the city had 650 inhabitants in 1814, then came coal and iron and the boom, now has 67,000... After 1990 everything closed or went bankrupt. All that's left are ruins... The only interesting things to see during the day and especially at the weekend are: the former Mayrau mine (museum) , the "Towers" ( 1950s skyscrapers with a model apartment, bomb shelter, muzeumvezaku.cz) and nearby the Lidice memorial (a village exterminated by the Nazis after the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich) The city consists of the original very small historic town , brownfields, various small miners' houses, and a giant housing estates from the 1970s to 1980s that have been renovated...
@@vitprochazka2824 wow thank you for all of this information. I'm a big fan of history so I really appreciate that information. We are only staying one night but may want to do some sight seeing Thursday in Kladno before heading back to Prague. It's a shame to hear about the state of the town. In the US where much of my family grew up, it is the same. Once a bustling industrious town now fallen to vacant warehouses and factories. Seeing the Lidice memorial would be of interest to me and my friend. I'll do some research into seeing how accessible getting their would be. We are planning on using Bolt the rideshare. I'm unfamiliar with it but hope it is efficient like Uber is. That way we can get creative and see some cool things. Again thanks for the information and I'm looking forward to seeing Kladno!
@@declandonahue592 it's not as bad as the UK or US, there are renovated houses, shops, no boarded up houses or dangerous neighbourhoods , just more or less an ugly town with nothing to do and a brownfield next door, thirty years ago it was a much bigger treat
Great tips here from Vit. I learned something too. I am quite new here 8 months only and still finding things out. Although I did pass through here in 1995 with my German friends. Back then it was pretty busy being a town with Bordels and busy full pubs. We were all in our early 20s back then so we did not quite fit in with all the drunkards and we could not understand anything and no one understood us, so we were quite afraid and just continued on to Prague which is only 30 kilometers away. Yea, Klado has a nice central part of town to walk through with some nice interesting buildings like you would find in Prague and other Czech cities. There are theaters and such there are interesting things to see for sure. There are two nice Czech Restaurants I like to visit, and a few pubs in the general area of the center right accross from Namesti Svobody. Also Vietnamese, even and Indian where you can get a curry, and of course lots of Kebab shops. I even saw a Greek but have not tried it yet. Chinese and Mexican food you will find too. You can walk through the center: Just go to Namesti Svobody walk towards the town. You will see the beginning of the pedestrian zone. I dont find it very run down at all, and they have been working on the pedestrian area for the past 8 months that I have been here. I lived in Prague for almost 15 years. And 3 in the 1990s. I like the feel here feels like Czech Republic 20 years ago. Yea, a lot of the town still has the soviet era feel. I guess I like that being I was here in the 1990s when all the cities in the CZ had that feel, and before that I was in Germany mainly the eastern part of Berlin for 3 years. What I like most about Kladno is that its quiet and clean and free of loud mobs of tourists. People living here are good old fashioned Czech folk. There are lots of Roma here and they have been really friendly. I had a few nice chats with them in a few of the pubs. There are not many foreigners here besides lots of Ukrainians and I guess me. I did meet one Canadian and one American here. They were both playing hockey here. I assume associated with Jagr. What I like most about Kladno is that the air here is clean. I have astma and I was suffering in Prague, especially in the summer. But what I like most about Kladno are the prices. My cost of living was cut in half by moving here. Restaurant prices are a lot cheaper, rent prices, utilities everything for me was cut in half. Even in the store prices are lower being they are not jam packed with people buying up everything at whatever price. Peopole are in a hurry in Prague so no one has time to care. Almost everything I buy gets discounted here. In Prague stuff that has been reduced flies off the shelf right away. We have prescriptions that we have to have every month wife and I she especially. Yea, even our prescriptions are half of what they were in Prague. Lastly, I love beer and I can still go to pub and get one for under 40 crowns. Not possible in Prague. Here i can go to a convienient store and still pick up a high priced can of beer for 25 crowns or less. In Prague would be 40 or more. And my favorite brands of beer right next to where I live Lidl Billa I never pay anywhere from 10 to 17 crowns, and they are always in stock and never run out. Yea, I can def foresee in the very near future that many more people especially foreigners like me will will be moving here to escape the high costs of Prague. Could be a good place to open a new pub. Lets see what happens right now the word of Kladno has not traveled much in the international community in Prague. Only Prague people seem to know about it and talk about it not so kindly. My friends and associates in Prague are still making fun of me that we moved here. Praguers can be really snooty. Enjoy your stay. Dont hesitate to get back. Cheers from windy and cold Kladno
Hey guys spent my day/night in kladno. Let me first say it was such an awesome experience and we absolutely loved it!! First we arrived to Prague around 2 pm on the train and took an Uber about 50 minutes to Kladno. We stayed at the Sport Hotel Sletiste where the indoor aqua park is and other sports facilities. We walked the town and were starving and sort of made the mistake of going to closet place open which was Restaurace SK Kladno. Walked in, lady let us know we weren’t really meant to be there in a respectful way, we saw something hilarious in there I won’t speak of and left. Ended up at Pliiiznka. Great staff, great vibes, great food. After went to Kladno Knights game at CEZ stadion, they lost but it was awesome experience. Went back to Plziiinka and had a few more beers till 10:30 pm. Walked to Dundee Jam and had some beers downstairs, there were 2 tables of guys, one table had guys my age (I’m 25) and we ended up talking and becoming good friends. Walked back to hotel by 12pm-1am. Awesome time. Kladno is a special place
