  • The Moor's Pavane is generally considered to be one of the great masterworks in the modern repertory. In the form of a Renaissance dance, Limon distills the legend of Othello into a taut, one-act human drama with music by Henry Purcell. Joining Limon are his close collaborators Lucas Hoving, Pauline Koner, and Betty Jones. Telecast date: March 6, 1955. Canadian Broadcasting Company.

I love the modern style technique that they use. It has a very great impact when it comes to telling a story, having a free-flowing appearance, and being emotional. I enjoyed this from beginning to end. Very talented individuals indeed.

Betty jones and Lucas Hoving , we’re my modern dance limon teachers. How lucky was I? Pretty lucky. She would talk about this piece how Jose Limon told her he couldn’t pay her for rehearsals but he promised her rubies in the future.

This is the best recording of this dance that I have seen . I saw these 4 do the dance in 1966 at Ct College Dance Festival in 1966 when Betty Jones and Pauline Koner were my teachers there. Pauline taught "Elements of Performing" which was one of the most valuable classes ever, and Seeing this dance inspired me to study with the other 3 at Juilliard after that. They were unmatched in the classroom as well as onstage. Superb artists as well as beautiful human beings. Thank you for posting my favoirite work of art.

I was there in 1961 or 1962. José Limón taught once a week, if I remember correctly. What an experience!
