- So, playing survival can be really difficult when you're a peasant normy with no hydrogen. This can't do what a decent welding ship can do, but it's pretty useful when you have limited inventory space and Hydrogen. Or is this just BS and a waste of materials...
Try it...

1. I often play with limited or no jetpack.
2. I often use aww scrap and advanced welding, so salvage is often better than grinding down and rebuilding.
3. I also use the mod which lets you pick items up by hand.
That combo has made me use a lot more small utility ships like flying welding platforms and little flatbed trucks.
As such this seems immensely useful. :D
Wait there is a mod that lets you pick things up? Been playing for years and just the other day wished i could do that
@@GenJackO Improvised engineering (improvised experimentation for servers)
I always run my servers with jetpacks too weak to operate on planets and see these things everywhere. One guy on my server created something like this but mixed it with a small welding ship, became one of, if not the, the most important vehicle on our server overnight. Innovations like this are the exact reason I enact those nerfs
Love the simple change of using independent cargo containers as crates.
Imagine 10-20 crates containing the components to a small to mid sized base being delivered and unloaded on scene.
Even using the space credits for the order.
It may not be strictly necessary, but it *is* hella aesthetic.
The jet pack is too forgiving In this game, imagine being stuck without one.. this is what you do, engineer
In my single player survival I do just that....I use a no jetpack mod, makes things alot harder when building.
There are mods which turn it off, or make it nearly useless in gravity.
I recommend them for the challenge... I warn you though, you will become very dependant on cranes and/or little flying welding platforms. The large block size is just too awkward to work with when you can't fly. Lol.
I do that in my survival, but not with the mod is more just unmark the jetpack from the advanced options.
This is one of those things where I don't want to build a vehicle strictly for carrying multiple cargo containers to one place using fuel and resources. And besides, I find it more comforting and fun to fill up a bunch of containers and drop them off at a yard for another site. I enjoy the realism and roleplay of it.
It has its place, I think a small welder ship would be better. But that being said the design has a industrial locomotive feel about it....im loving your channel by the way, you have sone great ideas, very well thought out and built.
Question in this clip what's the little drone-like AI flying around, they running on script, of jist set GPS way points, they make your factory pop with life.
Correct, they're basically just patrolling flight paths via gps, however, the ACL ship is actually bringing load from the crane grid to the main grid. It's programmed to lock, collect, and return. A few of them are basically shuttles. Lastly, I plan to setup a vehicle that collects salvage grids from the grinder pit, and drops them off in a crate. Lots of work to do!
This is one of those big brain creations you end up with when you have too much free time
in small or tight places that it can't get into, no... just have a welding ship. if you need supplies in a close space where welding is manual, just use the welding ship to get there, and instead of running all the way back to base to resupply, since you cant get the ship in there to weld, your welding ship will be stocked with supplies. and you can just take the supplies from it instead of having to go all the way back to base.
.
on the chance, you are specifically doing LOTS of tight space welding, and you have to manually weld, grab your biggest mining ship, and stock it with supplies since it is designed more around carrying heavy loads and not maneuverability, so you can take it where ever you need and have half your base of supplies to weld whatever you need , where ever you need it done. since welding ships are designed around medium carrying capasity and high maneuverability, they will supply some supplies, but not enough for large projects and not be as effective especially where maneuverability isnt a requirement when you cant use a ship in the first place.
.
now, if this is on a server where jetpacks are not allowed, then yes this would be great. but even then, I just spend all my time in space since those servers allow jet packs in space but not in gravity. but for a base in gravity, without being in tight spaces, yes a welding ship is better.
your logics sound but if you have say some RP server i can see a platform ship with a cargo box being useful if say owning anything with built in tools is a process (manly poking at rp servers with legal systems) also sometimes you just want to make something *NOT A FUCKING TOOL SHIP OR ANYSHIP KNOWN TO 90% OF THE ENGINEERS EVEN IF ITS IMPRACTICAL AS FUCK* and this fits both uses :P (i will not lie the main logic runs of most se engineers are to much efficency to little artistic/more fun things) also yes i do personally have a minor hate to the main metas of building
Well you dont have to yell about tool ships, but i guess for RP servers then this is good. But for 90% of dpace engineer servers which use this main mechanic of tools auch as welders, grinders, and drills. What im talking about would fit into the 90% category. I never even thought of RP servers at the time of making that comment. I guess this would be good for it.
it's a similar idea to Splitsie's "Splatform". for use in a world with no or nerfed Jet Packs it can be quite useful. it could be made smaller and perhaps with an integrated cargo, so you don't have to build a second craft to add or remove cargo. The landing gear to lock onto the structure you are welding (thus saving power) is a fantastic addition to the concept.
A single hinge Crane to grab adjacent crates while on the ground and lift them on/off the platform would be king. I'm working on an assembler setup that lets me easily switch between outputting to a specific connector or main storage.
Splitsie definitely needs to add landing gear to his welding platform.
That's a pretty neat approach to building stuff! Definitely more energy efficient than a welder ship, and frankly, having big, bulky welder ships with tons of cargo containers attached can get tedious to manage. This is simple, effective, and has that added satisfaction of hand welding without constantly running back and forth.
I think this approach could be very useful under certain conditions, especially in a no-jetpack survival game, or if you find yourself working on a large grid where you can't quite reach a block with the ship welder.
Definitely an interesting way to role-play if not using ship tools.
why? just build a builder ship with welders, and thats it! anyway, cool idea for a smol holes
Exactly, that's the question. Is it worth it for various small projects around your base. Thanks for watching!
@@newfang6234 maybe when using no jetpack mod.
@@kons37flyingreaper41 funny you say that, that's literally when I built it... using that mod lol.
@WEFawarenessLeague gold.
The question is why not?! 😀
Useful for "not allowed vehicle welders" game I guess
I myself started a survival scenario I made for me and my friends. They bitched and moaned when I told them that we had no jet packs. After a few hours of having to use machinery to get things done they agree it’s better. That and the only way to get Ice on the planet I chose was by using the moisture vaporator mod and as the planet has 1.5G jet packs would have not been really usable anyways.
That gonna give me a lot of useful buildings platform!
now I play No Normal space engineer ship style, mean I can build only build Jet plane with Thruster only if i want VTOL style ship i need to use helicopter blade only and i have nerf jetpack mod so this thing gonna be useful for my survival game
-Thank for idea now, technology stolen-
I do this but usually use the helm console on a platform. I often play with restricted jetpacks, limited resources, and other mechanics that make wide use of the jetback challenging
Rule of cool always wins.
Looks hugely useful in atmospheric settings especially if playing no jetpack/space suit survival
This would be good for no suit survival. Gj
I would totally steal a blueprint if I saw one in a world.
Для этого корабля нужны дополнительные батареи, у него случается перегрузка питания, если водить менее аккуратно то могут отказать двигатели и будет авария.
A slight design tweak for the welding platform craft:
Shift the cockpit off center so the cargo container can be dropped & locked beside it, and you’ll end up with a larger, clearer, *safer* platform from which to work, while simultaneously keeping a clear view from the cockpit for first-person flying.
Agreed!
Optionally, block off side access to the cockpit so you can only enter it from the front, so you don’t accidentally pop out the side into empty space 200m up.
I'm playing with a mod that makes jetpacks an inventory item and a small inventory size. Stuff like this is just necessary. My first windmill setup had to be built using scaffolding with ladders.
Yeah, adds a layer to the game for sure. Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching.
space fork lift space fork lift
Placing a loose cargo container on it doesn't make sense. But the layout seems sensible. I would replace the landing gear with magnetic pads and have them on the front AND sides. That way it's more useful as flying scafolding. You would be able to get closer as long as you're careful with your thrusters.
Some people just like doing things for the authentic feeling it gives, honestly putting a loose container on the ship is really cool, it forces you to consider flying carefully.
The game is a sandbox, maybe it's more efficient to do it another way but specialising ships like this to be just "A flying platform" is also a good tactic.
I don't know about it being practical but it's unique and interesting, though an elevator might work just as well.
What about that big truck at the bottom left of the screen at 2:14? I'd love to get a closer look at that beauty!
Soon ;D
Look at Splitise and Madkavn gameplay and you will noticed both of them can not use jetback and need these kind of machines to build a simple wind mill and so on.
As I saw in some comments, this is what you do without jetpack, but the design is really bad for first person players... I play my survival without mods, jetpack and without the 3rd person... Is more challenging but is really interesting trying build all kind of stop for first person view. Just have 2 or 3 vehicles build this way... And utility ships is useful if you are that type of builder...
it seems good if you don't have a designated ship
Last time in a game not called satisfactory
This is great. I just question why you wouldn’t put the welder on the ship, stay in it and weld from it... :???? Or is that not possible. I have not tried it.
It's a good question. A welding ship is great, and we definitely would rather spend resources on the welding ship. BUT, this platform is more for setting up the frames, topping off damaged blocks, tight corners, and it's light. I'd rather have my welder on charge than using it for minor repairs. The cargo container is just a added bonus, but not typically necessary.
Also, the top-end personal welder is actually faster than the welder block, do it can be faster to carry the parts with you in bulk, but do the welding by hand in some scenarios.
nice
3:00 anyone?? in the background h
Jet pack in the earth no is necesary for more realistic, chexk my videos i dont use it too take your like good video
