    The newest era of rap is honestly one of the best imo. Love the genre bending of different influences. How many rappers back in 2006 woulda said they were influenced by Escape The Fate? It’s crazy that we are here now. Loving the acceptance of other genres in music lately.

    Ghostemane’s IMAGE (his look) made me check out his music, and I decided to go to his concert as a new fan. Lil Tracy was the opener, and through him I discovered emo rap, GBC, and alternative hip hop. I discovered City Morgue, who play metal rap (not rap metal), and I’m currently discovering rage rap, which is described as Whole Lotta Red, such as Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely and Yeat.
    As a metal boomer and ex emo kid, this is so much more catchy and refreshing than current rock and metal!!!

    A video I wouldn’t mind seeing Finn do (if he hasn’t already) is how an artist legacy is affected by dying young. Nirvana as an example. By only put out a small sample they never put out mid to boring music that makes other bands fade off into obscurity. Or lesser known examples like Capital Steez and Joys Divison were the artist death almost becomes some dark form of advertising and mystique

    People, mainly metal heads,don’t realize the majority of the general public doesn’t care about “skill” when it comes to music. They care if something is catchy, easy to memorize to sing along to, and easy to dance to that is upbeat enough without being too fast. The general public doesn’t care about someone’s bars, how technically they can play an instrument, etc. they care if something is catch and enjoyable on a primal level.
    And from that aspect “mumble rap” is the perfect formula for gaining mass appeal.
    And this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just because it starts that way it doesn’t mean all the negative attributes it brings are going to be exacerbated and strung along in the future.
    Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it isn’t innovative or influential. It also doesn’t mean the majority of the general public won’t like it.
    Put it like this- if you think black metal that was recorded on a potato from a band who never lets the bass player plug in their instrument is the pinnacle of musical art then 99% of the human population is going to have a different musical opinion than you. Doesn’t mean either is wrong, but one is definitely going to have a larger effect on mainstream music.

      Yea I never understood that argument from older rock fans. Look at genres like punk. I could play any punk song I wanted on guitar after a few months of playing. It’s not the technicality that makes it good. It’s the energy and catchiness that makes it loved. And I say this as someone who was just listening to Archspire. Techy playing is cool but it’s not the be all end all of music and non musicians don’t care at all

Not really aged better, but of course young people are interested in new stuff and same will happen to Deftones when these new kids like something new, like this mumble shit. As much as I hate it, I get why the younger adults like the rebellious feeling and sound, since rock and punk have become pretty lame. Also I hate the "sonical density", most of these songs are badly mixed and filled with too much digital crap. Too much high and low end.

    I think the ''anime'' aesthetic in hip hop comes from Kanye working with Murakami on stuff like the Graduation album cover, also these rappers have a huge influence from nu metal and bands like Linking Park had a foot on that kind of aesthetic, both things (LP and Ye) were huge stuff a decade before the 2017 generation, so, it's not like anime aesthetic hasn't ever been part of the culture. If I took a screenshot of that clip of those rap kids saying that their whole crew would be famous and showed it to 1000 random people on the street….approximately 3 out of 1000 might know who they are. Maybe. 3 is being generous. Yet if someone showed a picture of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince or Bon Jovi to any random grandma in 1987, they would recognize them instantly. The 2016-2019 era was def unique. Ive dyed my dreadlocks 3 about to be 4 times. Its a time when people can really feel like they matter. This 2022 2023 stuff is just unoriginal trash mostly. The talent is dissolving:/ lots of new people just rip off older songs in a lazy way

    It sucks that nothing,nowhere gets left out of the conversation when talking about “who are some of the best emo rap artists”. I would say he ranks at the same level of Lil Peep in that genre, he just hasn’t garnered the same amount of acclaim. Not to mention no one really gives props to Drippin So Pretty who seems to be the one of originators of the genre.

      I totally agree. It’s objectively better music. Lyrically on a different planet than the guys today. They actually had vocabulary and were pretty clever and witty. These guys today, dudes on Xanax forgetting which bar they’re on so they repeat the same word over and over.

    Love rap. Can't stand this stuff for the most part. Can't separate the art from the artist with a lot of them (XXXtentacion specifically), music is very mediocre to me a lot of times, and I think it's largely the IPA of rap. Just because someone tells someone it is good and then he tells someone it's good and they told you it's good, doesn't mean it is.
    I appreciate and respect the DIY aspect of this and the punk rock of it all. But I genuinely do not think this music is good. The lyrics are sad and dangerous and I don't really get how people can like it to be honest.
    I'd rather listen to Rancid, Bad Religion, or H20 over bands like The Exploited that "can't play". That's never my jam.
    But. As always, thanks for the video Finn.

    Mumble rap, soundcloud rap, and trap exist in a parallel with all the other subgenres of rap. Dare I say, it didn't ruin it, it added to it. I'm not a fan at all but I understand its place. The existence of these subgenres have no bearing on the Kendricks, Black Thoughts, and Conways of the genre. It just provides even more options for people to listen to, and can often act like a gateway into more traditional rap, much like core does in the realm of heavier guitar music.

    Daily reminder that XXXTentacion was a complete and total piece of shit for all of his teenage and adult life. I'm not saying he deserved to die, but he certainly doesn't deserve to be revered and loved the way most people on the internet talk about him. Thank you for talking about these other rappers who I mostly did not really know too much about, they seem to be more deserving of the love and exposure than X has or will ever deserve.

    Rap was ruined long before any mumble rapper. Once it started glorifying shooting people and dealing drugs, thats when it went to shit. People started to make money off of trap rap and shit like crunk rap and now rap is only about cars, drugs, guns, money and women, and i dare anyone to tell me different. Now a days, its a rare find to actually hear real rap talent that isnt talking about one of the things i listed. Also to add, what the video is claming is mumble rap, actually isnt mumble rap. Go back and listen to lil yacthy and the such. You can hear what theyre saying. Id put artists like migos and shit under mumble rap. Either way, the mainstream rap scene is trash and almost devolging itself instead of evolving and growing. I know you dont like the heavy rhyming rap, but atleast it takes more skill and thought to put together than any typical trap beat with the same 808 and high hats

    • @SconnerStudios
      @SconnerStudios Год назад +2

      Yeah I think that's why rap hasn't died, but it's in a coma. Concious rappers have kept the genre breathing, but 99% of the mainstream stuff is either glorifying violence, sex and promiscuity, drugs, and partying. Chuck D probably gets upset just looking at the billboard these days. I guess it's similar to punk rock, where there's always going to be smaller artists that keep it alive, but the more commercially successful bands in the genre aren't going to be true to what it originally was. Blink 182 is not Jello Biafra or Johnny Rotten, and Cardi B is not Dr. Dre or Ice Cube.

    • @Sheenoobie
      @Sheenoobie Год назад +2

      @@SconnerStudios i honestly, and truely meant this, but i cant remember the last artist i heard on the radio and actually enjoyed it. Theres a LOT of rappers out there that are a lot more than just the typical stuff. Ive brought them up before on one of finns videos, but the Palmer Squares are a newer generation of rap, and theyre amazing at it just an example. And yeah, youre right. The biggest example would be country music. A LOT of country artists only make the music because its what sells, then you have artists like chris stapleton who are genuine (only country singer i could think of right off the top of my head)
