His songs hit differently especially if you're at the point in your life where everything feels numb. It's like a gentle whisper and feels like a spiritual hug. Thank you for working ears and good music.
A metaphor for mortality, existence, and love all wrapped into one beautiful and challenging spiritual song, that possibly only an Irishman born of immortal suffering might offer up on the alter of "modern music" and for all eternity to be so humble as to suggest that no matter what, love is the one immortal common nature we dare to share in the face of forever existent judgment....
aria15 Thank you and I will soon.I'm writing songs right now with my PRS SE 245 Black P-90 but maybe in a few days I'll post a finished song on this site OK? Cheers, RTH
aria15 here is one for you to remember And you can tell everybody this is your song It may be quite simple, but now that it's done I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in words How wonderful life is while you're in the world by Bernie Taupin -Elton John Your Song 1970 ALL there is to know by Terrance Hill You left me with all the sadness, all that a man can bear, I am wandering in a wilderness of self despair Is there any other moment, I can go out on my own, All the holes are gaped and bleeding; I couldn’t take care of all that on my own… These prayers gather and I seem to repeat myself every day, They are bottled up inside me; I put them there on my own Blue bottles line the oak shelf you gave me for my birthday, There is a small heart in colored pen drawn on the back All these fires that I started, did you realize they weren’t all mine, It’s a no fault occurrence, there are others involved Here we stand before s tidal wave, singing songs we composed in our last thoughts Spilling over into tomorrow of the last day holding us together in the final hour I opened up a box of butterflies You watched on as I smiled and played the Montana guitar Rick built as they all passed from view Surely I am never in one place or haunting a place more than a moment or two The days of autumn are fleeing with the butterflies as they move into forever If I ever see you again, please pretend you never have known me There are places in the heart where what is lost forever, is my last place to be me There never is an absence of understanding, a kind word or palace of peace The fool never realizes how love may be lost so easily, because of the fragile beings we are There are strawberries in the garden, a melon colored sky in the afternoon They are questioning the faith in what we are, the song written so lovingly and is now gone Feel the warmth of the exiles as they hide where once we lay There a red plaid blanket lying on the forest floor that we claimed to be ours. For now its only a cry lost to the wind in another time passed into the clouds of yesterday
I'm so nuts for this song. I put it on rotate and sing along while I'm cooking... get goosebumps every time~ Life doesn't get much better than these moments where music fills your head and soul and good food is happening.
Jaime Soltys Touched by very kind compliment. The top chef position is already held..grin..and happily too so feeling quite cherished actually ;) Big smile!
Wendy, so wise and I bet you make a mean casserole! I have this song on repeat too,,,,feel myself welling up, just beautiful!! And have just booked my tickets for his gig in Cologne - only €24!! BARGAIN!
jeffjeffuk Casserole..oh yes, I'm the Queen of One Dish Wonder~deep curtsey.. LOL. Oi, I'm so envious of the Cologne gig. A bit of a haul from Canada...which rather defeats that bargain 24euro pricetag...snicker.
Boys workin on empty Is that the kinda way to face the burning heat? I just think about my baby I'm so full of love I could barely eat There's nothing sweeter than my baby I never want once from the cherry tree Cause my baby's sweet as can be She give me toothaches just from kissin me [Chorus:] When, my, time comes around Lay me gently in the cold dark earth No grave can hold my body down I'll crawl home to her That's when my baby found me I was three days on a drunken sin I woke with her walls around me Nothin in her room but an empty crib And I was burnin up a fever I didn't care much how long I lived But I swear I thought I dreamed her She never asked me once about the wrong I did [Chorus 2x] My baby never fret none About what my hands and my body done If the Lord don't forgive me I'd still have my baby and my babe would have me When I was kissing on my baby And she put her love down soft and sweet In the lowland plot I was free Heaven and hell were words to me [Chorus 2x]
The dude is just fucking non human. Its always scary when people are able to sound better live than they do on record. No one should be able to hit notes like that at the end of a performance😂
Okay so I don't know if you guys get this feeling when a song or voice is so good it's just this feeling in your stomach and you're just like "God damn that's real" I don't know I could cry and smile and cry again because of his music and the vocals and his background music and his voice in general and yeah this performance is my favorite I don't know there was a lot of emotion in the way he sung this song. His hands were shaking a lot and his facial expressions were different which was perfectly fine and his voice was absolutely brilliant and just magnificently beautiful.
the beauty this man carries brings tears to my eyes he is so soulful and he just oozes pure and raw talented there are SO many musicians that get major attention for singing about ass, hoes, money, strippers, and other pointless things and then there are the very few artist like Hozier here who aren't super mainstream but have actual talent and deserve just as much scratch that more recognition than others aside from him having the gifted voice he has his songs are so powerful and filled with so much passion and MEANING i just cant get enough of him found him a year and a half ago and my love for Andrew is still going strong probably stronger than it was i the beginning
Very few songs stay with you in a way that it can move your soul each time you hear it. Hozier already has a number of them to his credit. His lyrics are genius and his voice soulful. He has been blessed by the gods and I am truly in awe!
Okay, I freaking scrolled past all of the comments to see if anyone noticed... Everyone's saying "OMG it's so real, I'm crying", but tell me y'all noticed how he actually almost freakin' cried...
OMG I thought I was crazy for being so moved to tears by this man. IDK what it is... I have to be careful about listening to his music in public because it gives me so many feels....and I DON'T KNOW WHY! Thank you for posting this lol
Heard all three songs on Other Voices three weeks ago...haven't stopped searching YT for all his stuff! I'm in my late 50's, like to think I'd know a little bit about music at this stage and, as you say, would compare to anyone we've produced in my opinion...and that's some company!!
This guy is... amazing. Like, every single song of his I've heard has been so spot on, so singularly poignant and touching, that I can't think of a single artist right now who I like more. :3
my goodness he's incredible! i heard take me to church months ago and thought it was an alex clare song. i heard someone talking about the real meaning of the song and what it represented so i looked it and woah! it wasn't alex clare at all, it was hozier! he's a new, indie artist who sings blues and it irish? i couldn't help myself so i checked out his album and fell completely head over heals in love with not only his voice, but the sensuality and soul of his lyrics. what an incredible talent and at only 24 years old? he sings the songs of a wise man with a lifetime full of heartache and love. thats not something that can be taught. im ashamed at myself for waiting so long to look him up and missing out on an opportunity at seeing him live seeming as he will be in the bay are for three dates next year and all of his shows are completely sold out! truely amazing
He sounds black. And that is a big compliment when I say it. He has got a gorgeous, rich tone to his voice. How this song has less that 20,000 views baffles me.
I usually don't cry when listening to music, nor do I cry twice for the same song after having listened to it again in a relatively short time span. This song is one of the few exceptions.
He has a gorgeous voice, never get tired of his songs and love his style. He sounds just as good live as he does in his recordings, you don't see that often. ...maybe more like *hear that often...
This is my favourite song of him ever. It just moves the soul so deeply. If you close your eyes and listen to the rhythm of it, you can almost imagine these enslaved workers digging or throwing sacks along with the beat
Terrance, you put that so beautifully. no way I could express it better. This is, without a doubt, my very favorite. what a poet... what heart... what depth... and what a powerfully tortured, evocative voice.... thank you, Hozier, for sharing your gift with the world.
I've been searching for this exact kind of feeling for someone before saying yes to forever, and didn't realize it until i heard this song a few times. Brilliant expression of feeling this man can produce.
This is why I love music. It's finding one song amongst the 1000s of sh1t that's out there which is powerful, beautiful and haunting all at the same time. Shivers with every listen.
Watching this for the like 4000th time and I noticed his hands are shaking a little around 1:45… he must have been nervous, but he did phenomenal anyway!! This is by far my favourite version of Work Song.
It's rare that a live performance is better than the studio version but this is definitely one of those instancs
Ashleigh H. AGREED SISTER THIS IS WHAT I THOUGHT OML he calms me so much
Hozier and Chet Faker are both masters at giving live performances that are somehow better than their already-excellent studio recordings
Billbo Sagginz plpppppp
well almost nothing can beat that song
It's beyond that. It's Magical. And hard to find. Listen to this live years ago. And couldn't find it, until last year.
His songs hit differently especially if you're at the point in your life where everything feels numb. It's like a gentle whisper and feels like a spiritual hug. Thank you for working ears and good music.
This is what I’m feeling at the moment.
@@KrystalHorne same.
I agree 💯
Yep. That’s me ✋😩
Yep
I can listen to this all day long...
That's what I have been doing for 3 days now - and still can't get enough of it!
best song of life
The first time was 4 month ago. I can't go a day without listening to it (and many more of his, like Cherry Wine...)
His music is from another world.
I have been! Think my roommates are getting irritated...so gorgeous, though...that humming hits me straight in the heart...
***** Have you listened to In A Week? Beautiful. Beautiful and dark.
I NEED THIS ON SPOTIFY
A metaphor for mortality, existence, and love all wrapped into one beautiful and challenging spiritual song, that possibly only an Irishman born of immortal suffering might offer up on the alter of "modern music" and for all eternity to be so humble as to suggest that no matter what, love is the one immortal common nature we dare to share in the face of forever existent judgment....
Ugh keep talking to me
Please say more things.
aria15 Thank you and I will soon.I'm writing songs right now with my PRS SE 245 Black P-90 but maybe in a few days I'll post a finished song on this site OK? Cheers, RTH
You should definitely do that! Looking forward to hearing your music. :)
aria15 here is one for you to remember
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple, but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind, I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
by Bernie Taupin -Elton John Your Song 1970
ALL there is to know by Terrance Hill
You left me with all the sadness, all that a man can bear,
I am wandering in a wilderness of self despair
Is there any other moment, I can go out on my own,
All the holes are gaped and bleeding; I couldn’t take care of all that on my own…
These prayers gather and I seem to repeat myself every day,
They are bottled up inside me; I put them there on my own
Blue bottles line the oak shelf you gave me for my birthday,
There is a small heart in colored pen drawn on the back
All these fires that I started, did you realize they weren’t all mine,
It’s a no fault occurrence, there are others involved
Here we stand before s tidal wave, singing songs we composed in our last thoughts
Spilling over into tomorrow of the last day holding us together in the final hour
I opened up a box of butterflies
You watched on as I smiled and played the Montana guitar Rick built as they all passed from view
Surely I am never in one place or haunting a place more than a moment or two
The days of autumn are fleeing with the butterflies as they move into forever
If I ever see you again, please pretend you never have known me
There are places in the heart where what is lost forever, is my last place to be me
There never is an absence of understanding, a kind word or palace of peace
The fool never realizes how love may be lost so easily, because of the fragile beings we are
There are strawberries in the garden, a melon colored sky in the afternoon
They are questioning the faith in what we are, the song written so lovingly and is now gone
Feel the warmth of the exiles as they hide where once we lay
There a red plaid blanket lying on the forest floor that we claimed to be ours.
For now its only a cry lost to the wind in another time passed into the clouds of yesterday
goosebumps.
Hey! Randomly going through Hozier songs and I find a superholly comment, wow. Love your videos, greetings from Orizaba c:
SuperHollyy!! Holaaaa

I'm so nuts for this song. I put it on rotate and sing along while I'm cooking... get goosebumps every time~ Life doesn't get much better than these moments where music fills your head and soul and good food is happening.
Man, you're beautiful...I think we need to cook and sing this together ;) Just sayin'... ;)

this song goes straight down the spine to resonate in the stomach
This is the best version of this song I've heard. You can see the emotion on his face and hear it in his voice. I'm officially obsessed with this man.
Boys workin on empty
Is that the kinda way to face the burning heat?
I just think about my baby
I'm so full of love I could barely eat
There's nothing sweeter than my baby
I never want once from the cherry tree
Cause my baby's sweet as can be
She give me toothaches just from kissin me
[Chorus:]
When, my, time comes around
Lay me gently in the cold dark earth
No grave can hold my body down
I'll crawl home to her
That's when my baby found me
I was three days on a drunken sin
I woke with her walls around me
Nothin in her room but an empty crib
And I was burnin up a fever
I didn't care much how long I lived
But I swear I thought I dreamed her
She never asked me once about the wrong I did
[Chorus 2x]
My baby never fret none
About what my hands and my body done
If the Lord don't forgive me
I'd still have my baby and my babe would have me
When I was kissing on my baby
And she put her love down soft and sweet
In the lowland plot I was free
Heaven and hell were words to me
[Chorus 2x]
I love how there are no hate comments because nobody can find a single flaw
I hate nothing about this!
He seems really nervous
two of the background singers are singing flat
I hate this. Song isn't long enough, so I have to keep hitting repeat >:(
@@charlielittle7214 That wasn't a challenge for you to nit pick like an ass
did anyone else notice the little high note at 3;13 ?? what a wondrous subtle note change. love him to death
Julia Wood that is my absolute favorite part of this performance!
I’ve known this version of this song for about two years and just noticed. Thank you
The dude is just fucking non human. Its always scary when people are able to sound better live than they do on record. No one should be able to hit notes like that at the end of a performance😂

Did he? Gonna watch again.
Awww you're right. I noticed his shaking hands but the emotion in his face and his voice! He really looked as if he was about to cry.
I have been looking for this comment. Is he okay? I just wanna hug him
Multiple eargasms between 3:12 - 3:16
Vered Juditsky I wish i could thumbs up this comment repeatedly but it won't let me:(

Disregard that plus sign
There are no words to describe the feeling this song gives me every time I hear it. Goosebumps do not even begin to cover it. It is perfection.
He sounds black. And that is a big compliment when I say it. He has got a gorgeous, rich tone to his voice. How this song has less that 20,000 views baffles me.
It's the beautiful underground. Cherish it while you can.
Even after the thousandth time watching, I still get chills. There are few songs this beautiful.
You can hear the old 1800's Southern out in the field slave song influence in this. Hell, they even titled it work song lol.
Umm💀
I want this version on Spotify so bad
This is one of the most beautiful song I have ever heard.
Hozier casually inventing love
My God, he was so young (2013!!!), and yet his voice is flawless, impressive, powerful as words can't describe. Thank you for existing, HOZIER.
You very rarely hear the quality from artists in live versions....but Hozier is a true exception. Amazing
That chorus is beautiful. I can't get over his tone and the power in his lyrics. This has to be a favourite...second to Take me to Church.
I usually don't cry when listening to music, nor do I cry twice for the same song after having listened to it again in a relatively short time span.

wow, this guy is amazing, i've been going through his tracks the past 2 hours, i can't find anything negative to say.. amazing voice, beautiful melody
This man’s music is getting me through such a heartbreaking time in my life… better days ahead my love ❤❤
I really hope this song makes it onto either an album or the next ep. I absolutely love it.
Wow I love this possibly even more than the studio version
He has a gorgeous voice, never get tired of his songs and love his style. He sounds just as good live as he does in his recordings, you don't see that often.

Wow this guy is incredibly creative. A real music genius. Very rare today.
What a talented guy.

Hozier makes music for the soul. So good.
The more I hear, the more I'm hooked... Brilliant.
You can tell how much emotion goes into his music, not just the sounds but the lyrics. You can definitely tell when the second verse comes around
The chorus pulls at the heart strings every time.. Sooo beautiful .. Magician lyricist!
proper talent right there, class song.
One of the best songs ever written
AMAZING!! I can't get enough of this guy, his voice, or his music. I can listen to this and codeine scene FOREVER!!
All l can say is WOW ! Glad they were on Letterman last night or l wouldn't have even found them . Every song they do is brilliant !
saw him live 2 days ago in SF. this song....wow....been listening to it non-stop since then. watching him play guitar is amazing.
This is honestly one of the most beautiful songs that has ever graced my ears.
I've been searching for this exact kind of feeling for someone before saying yes to forever, and didn't realize it until i heard this song a few times. Brilliant expression of feeling this man can produce.
BEST VOICE OF OUR GENERATION, THERE I SAID IT, ALL CAPS......
So beautiful it actually hurts
Crying because this is such a beautiful song. Wow!!
I've loved this song since the first time I heard it; yet, hearing it live, has literally brought tears to my eyes. Bravo.
Absolutely beautiful, good performance.
had to listen one more time before bed, amazing.
This song makes my heart ache.
Accidentally ended up on a hozier video a little while back. Have not been disappointed.
Such wonderful writing and singing. I'm buying this album for sure.
Hozier's voice is such an emotional stimulation - I love it and him !
I'm so addicted to this song, his voice and lyrics are so amazing
I love this version
that smile when he sings "I didn't care much how long I lived"
this is the best version of this song. hozier is amazing
Glorious.
This is why I love music. It's finding one song amongst the 1000s of sh1t that's out there which is powerful, beautiful and haunting all at the same time. Shivers with every listen.
Love Hozier? Make sure you head over to Sofar Sounds to watch his amazing live performance of "From Eden" - Tash, Sofar
addicted to this.
Get chills everytime Hozier sing live....
Can't get enough of this man, nice to see there's still proper music being made :)

It is noticeable at 3:12 also. Poor nervous baby Hozier
He has true talent, he sounds amazing live 😍
These lyrics, his voice. Goosebumps!!
This song is absolutely amazing. Unbelievable that it is live.
i bet hoziers audio editor must be so flipping bored
Haha. Right? He's just a perfect performer.

One of my favorite songs
Wow, just wow. I've actually been blown away. Such pure and deep emotion in this song. It's my first time hearing this and I'm so moved...
I have been listening to this song since 9 o'clock in the morning = 6,5 hours and I can't stop. Love this song, love Hozier's talents.
I am so happy Hozier now gets the attention he deserves because of Tiktok. It was long overdue.
SO FREAKING AMAZING
I love his voice! He's amazing!
