Love Miyazaki... but your comment about pessimism was so true. Hayao wasn't the most supportive to his own child, Goro, when Goro was heading up his own projects. So even the master of dreams and whimsy finds it hard to support creativity in the face of failure and criticism. Nobody's perfect so do your best to be kind to others and yourself.❤
Everything you said has made me violently angry. That’s absolutely not the feeling you get when watching Ghibli movies as a child. If you watch Miyazaki's movies as a child you only see dystopia and nightmares. You see a world you never want to be part of, sadness and a looming sense of dread that can’t be washed away even by the end of the film. It's like you can feel his depression right through the screen. To hear someone feels inspirational and hopeful from that is disturbing like you haven’t watched a movie of his. Every movie he makes puts another scar on a kid’s perception of the world.
Happy Facts Lifestyle - Live Your Dream Life I like the movie but it has some scenes a half a difficult time watching like the first scene with that giant 🐗 god having those-things around its body and the same scene with that blind 🐗 boar... I just can’t watch those scenes 😓
I remember when I first saw Howl's Moving Castle. The story, the characters, the art-style; I was blown away by it, and I loved every second of the movie. All thanks to Hayao Miyazaki and his crew.
I've been struggling for over 7 years to start publicly expressing my emotions and facing my fears creatively, with drawing and singing. I really hope that before this year ends, I'll finally have something finished to show. Should probably take a page from Miyazaki's book...
I love this style of video, you should definitely make this a series :) Id love to see the psychology behind Francisco Goya and his artwork. Even I admire Goya but I feel like his Saturn painting is a very very horrible site. Sure, it quite very possibly is a result of his thoughts that clouded over him late in his life. And in addition to that, I don't believe animations like THAT painting will have a nice psychological impact on a lot of people. (Including me). So, I would definitely want a person who is into art to analyse his work. But someone who's into psychology and to make animated videos about it. Definitely not an experience I'd want.
i really admire and respect Hayao Miyazaki. i am so grateful that he blessed us with Studio Ghibli films that not only made us happy and feel like a child again, but also comforted us through this trying times. there's a lot of Studio Ghibli films that i absolutely love, but the one that resonated with me the most is Howl's Moving Castle. that movie will always be special to me, because it made me not afraid of getting older anymore. seeing how Sophie embraced his 90-year-old self and seeing the bright side of getting older really resonated with me. since then, I've been feeling excited about what the future holds for me.

The first movie by Miyazaki I'd ever seen was My Neighbor Totoro, and I still love rewatching it today. It reminds me of when I was young, because I lived in the country for a long time, and watching it, I can feel the same wonder and excitement I used to feel exploring the forest and playing in the tall summer grass, or by the lake. It's really something, how all his movies have the ability to make you feel nostalgic and happy.
Ah man! I'm so happy you made an episode about Hayao Miyazaki!! His movies literally made my childhood and inspired me to become an artist, as well as Nintendo. My family has nearly every movie of his, haha. I remember being so excited when my Dad would come home with a new Studio Ghibli movie.. Miyazaki's mind is true genius, and I'm so very pleased you shared this insight into his ideas on creativity and the like. I loved all of Studio Ghibli's movies, but the ones that were closest to me in my younger years were My Neighbor Totoro, and The Cat Returns. I saw me and my sister in Mei and her older sister from My Neighbor Totoro, and the idea of being whisked away to a land of cats brought me so much awe as a child. Castle in the Sky was the same way, and Nausica of the Valley of the Wind made me want to grow up into a strong young woman as well.. Hahaha, so many good movies it's hard to choose which ones I love the most!! They've all influenced me for the better as I grew up. :)
Miyazaki is such an inspiring person. After everything that he went through, he was still able to find beauty and magic in the world, and create these magical films. I have a lot of respect for him.
Ponyo releases feelings of joy for me, it reminds me of seeing everything from a child's perspective. It reminds me to do what I want and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Kiki's delivery service reminds me of myself in the present trying to make it in the world, I've often imagined myself flying away and leaving home to become a master of my craft and better individual. That's what led me to go hitchhiking, which taught me so many things. How's Moving Castle is a tale based on a Welsh author's novel, Laputa Castle in The Sky is also aesthetically based on the Welsh mines; I'm so happy that my country is in some way relative to these wonderful stories that have given me and many others in the world joy.
I do love Miyazaki. My three favorite films of all time are all directed by masterful Hayao Miyazaki. All of his films are beautiful and wonderfully creative. My very favorite is “Howl’s Moving Castle.”

My Neighbor Totoro is by far my favorite Studio Ghibli film. It feels so close to home, and it inspires me to think of settings, characters, hardships, and nature.
I grew up watching Spirited Away, and I still cling to it when I’m down. But I love the many worlds Miyazaki has created, and he inspired me to create my own. He is one of my idols who probably saved my life with his work. He is an inspiration, so much so that as a kid I wanted to work as an animator at Studio Ghibli! His worlds are so vivid and real, it’s like if you touch the screen, it will transport you there, which is exactly what I wished for as a kid. To be able to go on adventures and escape my mundane life. To live an exciting life. And now I create these worlds not only for myself (although that is a large contributor), but so I can share the worlds with others and let them see a part of me that I hold very dear. My imagination is my safe-space, and when I let people see part of it, it makes me vulnerable and scared. But it lets me spread joy, help through grief, help spread change, and help the mentally ill find a safe-space just like I did when I was suffering. I relate to him even more now that I’m grown, and only hope I can create a sliver of the same joy and hope that he created.
Hayao Miyazaki is my favourite film director and his films are my favourites in general where 'Howl's Moving Castle' is my number one. I have one point to add: He didn't escape them, he conveyed them and, eventually, worked them out. If he continued to escape them through escapism then he turns a blind eye to what's real but he doesn't since escapism is just that - to escape the reality. He realized what reality is by working through his own sufferings, pains and, probably, insecurities into these beautiful, empathic films. There are few films that conveys these humane traits of being faulty in many ways, like Miyazaki's, where a journey follows to make them up, in other words character development. In these films, we experience his own view of what character development can be and look like. He didn't escape his reality for then we wouldn't see his marvellous films through his own character development.
I am personally attached to Princess Mononoke & Howl's Moving Castle, because they helped me interpret my experience as a human and a woman, and sparked in me a sense of empowerment. I can't understate the significance of this -- we all need validation and empowerment to push forward, and his films are reservoirs of such things.
First I saw miyazaki's movie is whisper of the heart, when I saw that movie I'm not only captivated by the amazing animation, but deeply dig my emotions, strangely can make me resembles my young ages (15-17 y.o.) and then the second is My Neighbour Totoro it is even more strange that this movie is not only for children, it forms from a nightmare when an accident happends there, but created in a most beautiful way. And now I've watched all of his movies. My ultimate faves are: Spirited away The wind rises Only yesterday From up on poppy hills Whisper of the heart Ponyo And Howls moving castle
Our whole outer world is created through imagination. On a separate note, when I taught in public elementary school, I would infuse the arts into my lessons to support teaching the heavily tested subjects, which we were expected to teach during the bulk of the day. I was supported by good principals and caught a ton of flack from one test-crazy principal. I also showed Miyazaki films during some of my lunch breaks. Creativity is what gets us ahead and it comes in different forms. It is not some meaningless pass time.
I am a Miyazaki lover... mu favorite film is "Mon voisin Totoro" it is a very special film to me it speaks to my heart and soul... Thank you world because we have Miyazaki
The reason I love his movies are of course because of the beautiful animation and such creative story, but also how the stories leave a story for the audience to ponder like porrco Rosso, also the music by joe, in studio ghibli are heavenly. I love how it holds such a nostalgic vibe that is connected with beautiful and magical childhood or moments for everyone. I just love all his movie.. they all hold lessons and imagination. Lol my kids are for a fact watching his movies at least a million times!
Nausicca of the valley of the wind brought an incredible and unbelievable outlook as a kid, I wanted more but during that time studio ghibli wasn't known, but however I do identify with miyazaki, I didn't know I used books and other forms of entertainment to escape hardships such as friends unfortunately passing and other family passing.
I’m so glad whenever I got a Miyazaki film from Best Buy they would always show trailers to his other films that I’d be interested and would make me want to buy more of them.
Kiki’s delivery service resonates with me the most. I’m a teenage artist in college and I know that being an artist 👩🎤 professionally is more challenging than being a banker, manager, lawyer,
His movie The Wind Rises has been a very good story for me to learn from. It is also one of the toughest movies for me to get back to. It has a very tragic topic in movie that I understood highly and still to this day must not lose the love and passion he spoke to me through his work. Love the relationship of Jiro and that lovely woman.
Hayao Miyazaki is my hero, I love all of his films but Spirited Away stays my favorite because that's the first movie i've watched from him and i've watched it so many times throughout my childhood (since i were 5 years old)
“The wind is rising” film resistance with me the most because it’s about a boy that has a dream to create beautiful airplanes. Because airplanes are like dreams, and the message I got from that was, each airplane is someone’s dream, weather it be my dream or you dream, of dreaming to become an artist, author, athlete and so on. Everyone’s dreams is like an airplane waiting to be discovered, created and ready to take flight, everyone’s dreams must take flight. I grew loving Miyazaki and I have his art books and biographies, and (law of attraction) I’m going to work with him with my animated film project.
I really like Whisper of the heart. It reminds me of my young ages, where I conflict myself some short of dilemma what will i do in my future. It is very heartwharming that 2 young people know their dream and chatch it no matter how hard it is because it is their passion
everyone: princess mononoke, spirited away, my neighbor totoro, howl's moving castle, kiki's delivery service.... me: where are my nausicaa fans at ?? ; _ ; i know it was made before studio ghibli was founded but it was still directed by the man himself :(
I think Howl's Moving Castle is one that I can resonate with most nowadays. It used to be my favorite purely for the visuals. I loved the design, the characters, and the charm behind it. But now I relate a lot to Sophie. Her growth as a character, and in confidence is something that feels very familiar to my personal changes in the past two years.
Definitely The Cat Returns.. it’s always held a close place to my mind since I was little. I still repeat watching it to this day.. I suppose it must be for my love for animals? Whatever the reason, I’ll never forget this movie. :)
I wish his movies had been around when I was a child. My son loves the movies, and I think our favorite is Howl’s Moving Castle, although I love Spirited Away just as much.
Now I understand, I'm making comics drawing by me and writen by me, I don't read news anymore because they depressed me a lot and my country it's full of corruption and apathy, so when I make my fantasy tales I want to embrace the good kind of mankind so people can see that not everyone has a bad face, maybe is not what Miyazaki really means but I feel that my duty in this world is about giving peace to my readers. Thanks for the video
If anyone finds this, this take on Miyazaki is wrong about imagination being merely a form of eacapism. Hayao Miyazaki doesn't escape reality to be imaginative, he meshes Imagination with the real world. That's why his stories are so immersive I'm how he creates, he and his team are bringing the architecture, environment, and characters all to life as if they were biological human beings. The imagination isn't a separate world, it is merely an extension of the illusion of nonduality of our world we live in, which is all a menagerie projected by our eyes. This is especially true when we're daydreaming, or dreaming. It's Not like we spent 1/3 of our life diddling our fingers in our hesds. What we visualize, feel, and believe is real, and the imagination is proof of this. it is the belief that you don't think it's real that kills the idea it can be real, like when you believe it's only an escapist concept to imagine new places and dream of immersive landscapes tailored to what we truly want. If you watch the end of the documentary on Hayou Miyazaki, from "The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness," you'll see him chatting with the director of the documentary, pointing outside the window ofthe hotel they are at, right before a press conference, out at the wonders of imagining a parkour styled jump in between the roofs of buildings in the city skyline and surrounding structures perfect for an immersive experience, kind of like In Lupin lll: Castle of Cagliostro, Miyazaki's first movie he directed(and obviously his other films where parkour scenes exist), where Lupin, often did daring jumps from building to building on the roofs to escape capture. Children know that the imagination is indiscernible to reality, they're just indoctrinated to believe otherwise, which oftentimes fools them into believing that every time they have an imaginative thought it's not in any shape or form real, and just some sort of fabrication of escapism. And that could not be farther from the truth. Your imagination, your reality, is as real as you believe it to be. Everything is an illusion, so anything is possible, and that includes everything you see in the Studio Ghibli Movies. From the Cat Bus(my neighbor Totoro), to the bathhouse full of mythical creatures spawning at an abandoned Theme Park(Spirited Away), to A flying Pigman who knows to to beat anybody at flying(Porco Rosso). If you have read this far, just remember you can manifest any of wildest imaginative desires if you want to. They are as real as your hands and feet, or any physical item. You just have to affirm to yourself that everything is more than how you thought you saw it. Here's a challenge you can try: Think of your imagination as VR, but actually real and interactive, and go on a walk with this concept in mind . While on a walk, I want you to think outside the box and have some fun, we're talking about things like doing a jog and jump on the power lines, dragons flying across the sky and wrapping around telephone poles and lights, the asphalt, concrete, or grass you walk on is all water in disguise, watching the clouds come to life in various forms speaking to each other and you, or imagine having a friend to walk with, like a Dog minstrel, with the body of a human save for it's face, where the dog can speak and sing for you if you give him a treat (and don't worry, imaginative treats are perfect). Have fun with this. The more imaginative you get, the better, and it's only escapism if you believe it to be that way. You can choose to believe in a lie, or you can embrace the imagination for what it is, a nondual, infinite sea of energy and love, that can take all forms and shapes and colors. Peace out brothers and Sisters.
Very well said, i really admire your comment❤. Miyazaki doesn't chase or believe in "escapism", he builds immersive realistic worlds where you don't "escape" in that but can unleash your deepest imagination, which allows you to come to terms with your deepest self, with your "truth". This is Cinema, and This is art. Miyazaki's works are among the most profound because in his worlds there is a incredible and unique imagination, an imagination that allows you to "fly", to deal with the truth of your soul and to cultivate it. I send a hug to you and anyone who reads this comment.
I used to watch Kiki's delivery service when I was around 4-5 and I wanted to be like Kiki. After that,I pretty much forgot everything about it except that I've watched it. Ten years later,I rewatched it and came to realise how much I have in common with her. It's weird...frame by frame my brain was flooding with memories.
I love all of the Miyazaki films that I've seen, but my favorite is Kiki's Delivery Service because it takes me into a beautiful world like no other. Of course, they all do that, but that one especially I can feel the freedom and excitement.
As a little kid, Kiki's Delivery Service resonated with me. It was on tv a lot and watching it over and over are one of my first memories as a kid! I drove my mom crazy with that one. I'd pick that out from Blockbuster when I'd have sleepovers at my aunts house. At home, I'd go outside with a cat stuffed animal and a broom and pretend I was Kiki, lol!!! That spurred my obsession with halloween (because, witches and black cats lol!) And also with loving Ghibli later on! Now I would say I resonate with The Wind Rises. Idk I just really love that one and its atmosphere. It's cute but has an inspiring story and inspiring personal motivations of the characters. :)
Hayao Miyazaki, his team made movies that inspires me to work on my won web comics called WEBTOON, to create a story that inspirs life into people. "Spirited Away" may be my little joy when it comes to the notion of "ma", as Miyazaki sensei says : a time between a claps, a break into business. I'm trying to work my own notion of "ma" in my web comics. Wen it comes to survival, "Arietty" tells a good, inspiring message too.
Maybe that's why his films resonate with me. I have a tendency to escape into my imagination in stressful times. I'm sure it's a coping mechanism from childhood.
You make it sound that only people who suffer can be creative. If that’s the case, I’d rather not pursue anything creative; I haven’t suffered enough (and I don’t want to)

I left a piece of my heart in his movies, and I´m sure I´m not the only one...
Without Miyazaki I wouldn't have inspired to be an artist and I'm so glad I grew up watching his films!
Spirited Away truly showing us hope can be found anywhere as long as you know it's there
my Granddaughter looks a lot like Ponyo she even has that care free attitude
How old is your granddaughter? She sounds lovely!
@@Psych2go almost 1 and full of life the only difference is hair color her hair is blackish brown
Kiki’s delivery service resonates with me the most. I’m a teenage artist in college and I know that being an artist 👩🎤 professionally is more challenging than being a banker, manager, lawyer,
I love Howl’s Moving Castle the best but I’ve always had a special place in my heart of all of Miyazaki’s works
Spirited away was my first studio Ghibli movie i watch.. and it still blown me away💕🔥
Laputa castle in the sky, probably because it was the first Studio Ghibli's film that I've seen.
The man the myth the legend Miyazaki!
But of course :) I wouldn't be half the person I am today without him.
Mononoke Hime, Porco Rosso, The Wind Rises, Castle in the Sky, and Lupin III The Castle of Cagliostro are my favorite movies from him.
Love this channel! Spirited Away is a classic
I'm a Miyazaki Fan, and 'Spirited away' was something I could relate so well.
I really like Whisper of the heart. It reminds me of my young ages, where I conflict myself some short of dilemma what will i do in my future. It is very heartwharming that 2 young people know their dream and chatch it no matter how hard it is because it is their passion
This guy is a legend, thanks for this
You're welcome :3
everyone: princess mononoke, spirited away, my neighbor totoro, howl's moving castle, kiki's delivery service....
me: where are my nausicaa fans at ?? ; _ ; i know it was made before studio ghibli was founded but it was still directed by the man himself :(
Me emocioné cuando me llegó la notificación de tu nuevo video! Studio Ghibli ♡😊
All of his movies have such great memories attached to it!
Aww, indeed! Which one is your favorite?
I think Howl's Moving Castle is one that I can resonate with most nowadays.
It used to be my favorite purely for the visuals. I loved the design, the characters, and the charm behind it. But now I relate a lot to Sophie. Her growth as a character, and in confidence is something that feels very familiar to my personal changes in the past two years.
I saw Spirited Away when it first came out and I was transfixed! It was and still is such a wonderful film! Beautiful and Unique!
His movies have always helped me and still do when everything is wrong. Specially Kiki, I really relate to her🖤
Definitely The Cat Returns.. it’s always held a close place to my mind since I was little.
I still repeat watching it to this day.. I suppose it must be for my love for animals? Whatever the reason, I’ll never forget this movie. :)
as an animation enthusiast, this is amazing. thank u.
Aw, thanks Danny! We hope you got some inspiration out of this. ♥
Hayao is one of many favorite animators I ever watch
Me too ♥
Thank you the simple inspirational message
My favourite is "Howl's moving castle",it is also the first anime I ever saw.
His movies warm my heart
I never expected to see a video about Ghibli on this channel
We can be surprising, no? :)
There is no way I can relate to Hayao Miyazaki's past. I almost cried when you mentioned his past.
I wish his movies had been around when I was a child. My son loves the movies, and I think our favorite is Howl’s Moving Castle, although I love Spirited Away just as much.
I like Castle in the Sky.
I feel mysterious, and move. Inspiring my imagination
So excited to see his name in my notifications
Haha, aww. :3 He's someone our team looks up to a lot!
Great video essay, good job!
I'm overwhelmed
Thank you. This is so inspiring.
why choose one if we can choose all of his works.Hayao Miyazaki is a Legend.
also true :)
Very good
altho I don’t know if I’ve watched any of his work but this is a great content!! I really like it
this channel just got 10 times better.
Wait shit I gotta go school nuuu I have to Wait 8 hours to watch thissssss
Ahahaha, aww, have a good day at school! We hope you enjoy this video! ♥
I haven't seen a lot of Ghibli-films but I really love Spirited away
I can actually thank my dad for getting me into anime, my first anime movie was Ponyo!
Spirited Away
This is pretty different from the usual fare, I dig it a lot
Thanks so much for watching and for appreciating our efforts to branch out. :) We wanted to take a risk because we felt ready. ♥
I love you sir... Hayao is the best
So amazing and talented....
Maybe that's why his films resonate with me. I have a tendency to escape into my imagination in stressful times. I'm sure it's a coping mechanism from childhood.
You make it sound that only people who suffer can be creative. If that’s the case, I’d rather not pursue anything creative; I haven’t suffered enough (and I don’t want to)
Spirited away and Howl's moving Castle
My favoirite was Laputa:The Castle in the sky
I love Howl's moving castle, Kiki's delivery service and Spirired away💙
I love Miyazaki's films, expecially Nausicaa Of The Valley Of Wind😍💓❤
Nice! Haven't seen that one yet. We will check it out!
@@Psych2go yes you should
