The best description I've heard of an authentically told story's purpose: to give the receiver an experience of the story (rather than teller sharing THEIR experience). That is so clarifying and helpful.

Expressing a proud, sugar-coated version of yourself is easy; showing people who you ARE, with all your flaws, talents, shortcomings and strengths, is far more difficult. People aren't willing to be as honest as they often think.

Excellent discussion on gifting the audience by getting out of the way of the character and the story so that the audience members can interact to understand something about themselves. True for every performance genre.
Im a novelist. but i find that much of screenwriting advice is universal or some at least translates well into novel writing as well. I think novelists can learn a lot from screenwriting especially dialogue you guys are really good at that stuff. Thanks for putting up these videos Film Courage :)

There's something about entering this long dark tunnel of screenwriting and coming out a more in tune human being. I'm struggling with it now because Im just starting, but when I hear what you say about honesty, in self expression, I can't help but think that what we do is important. Yes, Staw Berry, time to get out of the way of the story that is inside you. Let out. Don't try to control it. Let it live and breathe on it's own. You'll be amazed.
As an actor, how could I implement the interrogation process? Is there something I could do on my own when others don't know about this? If the director doesn't know about it or how to do it (it's also my first time hearing about it myself as well), how to direct myself? When the director is still talking to me, the actor, and not the character. I really want to live as my character in the moment. Wish someone directed me like this. Really want to get myself out of the way.
This is the exact opposite of acting. Making actors feel terrible, angry, jealous, resentful, etc, on stage is not building sympathy with the character but forcing us to watch people hurting onstage. Is some people may enjoy watching this, but there's no skill and no performance in it.

LOL Since when has Hollywood told a true story? "Based on a true story", meaning dramatizing every scene and character. Nothing but two hours of BS.
