I was just about to say that Nek! provides me a little consolation about the breakup of Girlfriend. They're operating in the same space, but Nek! is more of a rock band that's very pop while Girlfriend was a pop band that could really rock. Sakika and Mirei have gone in a different direction with COCO (COX2) but haven't found a following the way Mina has,, even though Sakika's songwriting is brilliant.
I'm in love with the bass skills and tones of all of their songs. Kanade is always so clever creating some catchy bass lines for NEK!. I have a suggestion for a new band. There is a new band that gains much attention lately for their new song. The band is STMLT, and the song is called 'ANTIMENTAL'. The song is good, it's so worth of checking out. Cheers!!
Did you just diss Saiki! 😂 Jusk yanking your chain. Hika really is an exceptional vocalist, and she has a lot of technique like the smooth almost yodel that is unique and harkens back to the 70s and early 80s.
I get this fusion of Band-Maid, Gacharic Spin, and TRiDENT from the EP in its entirety honestly. This makes NEK! their own thing but also familiar at the same time which is why they gained popularity so fast.
While for me this song doesn't have the insanely earworm-y nature of "Get Over," it's a brilliant showcase for just how good this band is. The fantastic symbiosis going on in the rhythm section (which much of the time also includes guitarist Natsu, who while she can deliver a cool solo, is also a damn good rhythm player), the confident, powerful vocals, the slick change-ups. And I don't disagree: I like the vocals here better than Band-Maid, too. ;) Recommendations? I can probably predict some of the female J-metal/hard rock reccos you guys are getting, so I'll take a chance at a couple that are a bit more under the radar but that I think you might really enjoy. STMLT - "Antimental" This is a _great_ mix of vocal styles (two singers, one clean w/ poppy influences, one growls/rap) combined with some really heavy, djenty metalcore. Complex, mature arrangement, too. They just dropped (as in an hour ago as I type this) a live version that's the one to check out. It's all good, but the drummer...wow. icontinew - 「ERROR」 Dreamy-but-heavy prog-metal + ethereal vocals track. Drives nice and hard, too. Guitarist Arisan avoids the cookie cutter shredder thing by getting her Phrygian dominant on in a genuinely different way while still showing some slick chops. I've seen this young band in Shinjuku...they're fantastic live.
There are a couple of live shorts on their main page. Band Maid Choose Me cover ruclips.net/user/shortsHD5eo78IMNk and Get Over ruclips.net/user/shortsTF3IDIX41Q0
Nek! has been the story of the year for me. The response has been rather surprising. My more recnet discovery has been another new Japanese band, Tweyelight. The bassist from the Japanese band, Octaviagrace, turned me onto them. The vocalist Juno is rather amazing and is also in the bands Beyond Sorrow and BLiND OWL. If you haven't checked out Octaviagrace, they are another band worth checking out. They are another band that have connections to Destrose via the guitar player, Hanako. You might want to wait for their new album to drop before checking them out. BTW-I see all of the regulars form certain Facebook group posting here, 🤣
Sam and Chris.. another great reaction as expected and always delivered! Can you do a video of how these different bands, especially the ladies from Japan, have influenced your particular playing styles or how they have inspired you?
I'm not sure you can really compare Saiki and Hika too much (except of course when NEK! does Band-Maid covers lol). Especially considering the latest album Epic Narratives by Band-Maid. You should go check it Forbidden Tale and see if you still feel the same way. That album is like the Saiki show off album. Glad you're getting into NEK! though
They're sort of blowing up. They have a 2nd one-man show coming up in November and it's already sold out. They just released a 5 song EP so I'm not sure what other songs they play during their gigs.
Maybe play twice each song or do cover. Just like STMLT do, STMLT only realesed 1 ep (6 songs) + 2 new single so at the recent show they play 12 songs, some song played twice.
Some Japanese groups/artists, old and new. Take your pick: BAND-MAID [All their songs... really!], LOVEBITES [Break the Wall, Raise some Hell, and all the other songs], BABYMETAL [All their songs, because they are all different], MAXIMUM THE HORMONE [Yoshu Fukushu], HAGANE [Tenka Goken (Trad: Five Swords of Heaven)], NEK! [MAZE, Get Over], DEXCORE [Earthworm], CROSSFAITH [Catastrophe, Zero], SiM [Killing Me], NINGEN ISU [Heartless Scat], ADO [Unravel (LIVE)], UNLUCKY MORPHEUS [Black Pentagram], YOUSEI TEIKOKU [Astral Dogma, Patriot Anthem (Live)] and their other band: DenKare [Detonator], COLDRAIN [Die Tomorrow], CRYSTAL LAKE [The Circle], GIVEN BY THE FLAMES [Ronove], LONESOME_BLUE [Face the Fear], ANGRY FROG REBIRTH [2Step Syndrome], SILENTLY SHOOTING TRAITORS [Manipulate], ALDIOUS [Dominator], EAST OF EDEN [Evolve], TRiDENT [Ambivalent, Spoopy], KOKESHI [Fetal Sea], BRIDEAR [Light in the Dark, Brave New World Revisited, Ignite], CINQ ELEMENT [Destiny], MARY'S BLOOD [Marionette], GRAUPEL [Bereavement], DOLL$BOXX [Take my Chance], SOKONINARU [Tenohira De Odoru], HELLO SLEEPWALKERS [Flying Saucer], TELECiDE [Tied up Memories], NEKO [Ghost on a Record], MARDELAS [G-Metal], FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS [Tear Down], MERGINGMOON [Greyen], ROTTENGRAFFTY [Hallelujah, Playback], JILUKA [Mephisto, Overkill, Venom, Lluvia], BROKEN BY THE SCREAM [Emotion Cross-Counter], FATE GEAR [Unbreakable Wings], LYNCH [Devil], GACHARIC SPIN [Mindset], DIR EN GREY [Ningen wo Kaburu], X JAPAN [Kurenai], DAZZLE VISION [Second], DEVILOOF [Torture] _(Deathcore Band),_ JUPITER [My Enemy], SEIKIMA-II [Fire After Fire], NOKUTO [Life of Desire], GALNERYUS [Angel of Salvation], SAISEIGA [Ride On], BLOOD STAIN CHILD [Del-Sol], IRONBUNNY [23], NEMOPHILA [Rise, Hypnosis], DADAROMA [Lucid Dream], PaleNeØ [aLiVE], Takayoshi Ohmura [THE CATACLYSM], HANABIE [We Love Sweets, Be the GAL], ZEILE [Deathside], A CROWD OF REBELLION [Re:Create of the Re:d], PALEDUSK [Area PD], POLKADOT STINGRAY [any song], MUTANT MONSTERS [Abnormal], BLACKLAB [Insanity], ASTERISM [Fiction, Rising Moon, Unravel, or Church], NOISEMAKER [Hunter or Prey], BiSH [The Night When Stars Twinkle], SCANDAL [A.M.D.K.J.], DEEP GIRL [I kill], Mrs. GREEN APPLE [Inferno], BRATS [Doudatte Yokatta, Kimarigoto], THE ORAL CIGARETTES [Frenzy Hey Kids!!], GIRUGAMESH [Drain], LiLiHoLi [From Darkness to Light], THE DEVIL’S KILLING MERRY-GO-ROUND [Diabolos], OTOBOKE BEAVER [Don't Light My Fire, Love is Short], GLIM SPANKY [Breaking Down Blues, Fighter], and many many more...
Ya, I am loving this band! I love the bassist but the female bassist's in Japan just are top tier talent. Lovebites is the only band that the bassist is not my favorite but what can I say Haruna!
#OffestEra greta reaction as awlays with you boys They managed to win over the hearts of BAND MAIDS fans with their 1st EP. Fun fact: NEK! never set out to do that. after NEK! boys try VENUS offical thoses japonese lady rock as well. in The song GLITTER . It taste like MOTLEY CRUE & GUNS'N'ROSES (80'&90' S era) ruclips.net/video/ldQOBzOe3cE/видео.html
Nek! Has a bright future. Harder version of the band called Girlfriend. Mina, the bassist, from that band has a big following now.
I was just about to say that Nek! provides me a little consolation about the breakup of Girlfriend. The only thing wrong with NEK! is that there is not more. Give me more!
Cocoro was laying down some new drum tracks in the studio a few days ago.
Thanks for giving Nek! some airplay! ‼️‼️
I'm in love with the bass skills and tones of all of their songs. Kanade is always so clever creating some catchy bass lines for NEK!.

Yes! I was thinking yodeling as well!
To me this band gives me more a Gacharic Spin than Band-Maid vibe.
I get this fusion of Band-Maid, Gacharic Spin, and TRiDENT from the EP in its entirety honestly. This makes NEK! their own thing but also familiar at the same time which is why they gained popularity so fast.
they give me Polkadot Stingray, but instead of hectic guitar its hectic base, and i love that
me too
if you like how chaotic Nek!'s style is, you should definitely check out Polkadot Stingray. they are right up your alley
Came across these Girls when watching BabyMetal who I absolutely love.
I can't get enough of NEK! Cannot wait for more from them.

Gotta love the drummer's Luka Doncic jersey.

These are rock bands, not like the one on the t-shirt he's
I’m sorry?! did you say that the bassist is the 15yo high school girl?? Scandal kind of pop rock band I guess.
