      And it's videos like this that motivate me to be a better wood worker. When you see this kind of quality it forces me to ask myself why I'm not achieving those kind of results. Is it because I don't have the tools to do it? Don't have the skill? It's content like this that motivates me to get out in the garage and push myself to build and try to achieve results at the same level.

    Hi fabulous jig! I'm making a long table with everted flanges, these flanges will have an angle of 150 degrees to the table top, I believe that if your jig could be made to accommodate different angles rather than just a fixed 45 degrees, then I could very well make spline joints for the flanges, as I think glue wouldn't be strong enough. Is that a good solution or do you think a different joint might meet the requirements?
    Thanks

    • @NickFerry
      @NickFerry  6 лет назад +1

      splines would be perfect - many times in those highly acute angles there isn't enough room for dowels - keep in mind the splines don't need to be of a contrasting species - many times I use the same wood and the grain direction difference is a nice subtle accent

    • @endorpiadork4442
      @endorpiadork4442 6 лет назад

      Nick Ferry
      Hey Nick, thanks for the prompt response. By the way, an acute angle is one that is less than 90 degrees, I'm sorry you may have misunderstood my query...I want to construct flanges that are greater than 90degrees....150 - 160degrees splayed out from the table top, splines might well be strong enough, however I had thought about making sliding dovetails, all the angles with the dovetails and the flanges seems a bit daunting especially with two connecting pieces at an angle of 160 degrees!! Yikes! I think I might have to use a shim with a 10 degree angle, clamp it to the piece so that the piece will have a 90 degree face to the router bit. Then to use a dovetail bit to make a sliding dovetail.
      Thanks again, I think I might just have envisioned the process by enunciating it.
