    Imo this was a great ride by Ruby, and we all know Kauto was a legend of the game!
    But if Long Run had a top-class jockey we all know he probably would have won

      Nah. Long Run was a typical French bred, hit his peak young in his career then regressed badly. This was the season after he was at his peak, when he won the Good Cup. Was no longer the same horse. Kauto Star wasn’t just extraordinary in terms of his performance level and hardiness, but because he was atypical for a French bred - to hit a peak so young and continue near that level year after year after year after year is so, so rare.

      @@cmcg3738 and this to me is what made him so great. He was still winning top class grade 1 races at an age when most other horses had cried enough or had lost a lot of their ability. I doubt we will see his like again
