I really want to learn a second language because I want my daughter to be bilingual, she's mixed with Asian so I want her to know an Asian language. I choose Korean because I love the dramas and songs and I hope she will when she's older, she's just a toddler now hopefully I'll learn alot in a year. I'm more motivated because I'm doing it for her
I first came here 11/15/2022 and this is my starting point trying to learn to read, write, and speak Hangeul, my 4th language (hopefully). I have a fairly strong motivation to learn the language. I've been looking for a simple yet effective video on how to learn the korean alphabet and this is the best one i've seen so far!! Everything is super clear, thank you Jenny!
Some people seem to wonder what she's wriing for pronunciation in the "[]" brackets (one even commented that she's writing "random shit", how dare he). She's using IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet), which is designed to describe all the different sounds of all languages (look it up on Wikipedia). For example IPA for English "up" is "[ʌp]", where "ʌ" is the same symbol Jenny wrote for theㅓ's sound. Knowing some IPA will help you understand this video better as well as anything concerning phonetics. She doesn't mention this probably because she has limited time and also because dectionaries in Korea, Japan, and many other countries use it to denote pronunciation so that people are already familiar with it.
Most dictionaries in english has this ipa too... I was wondering why she wrote 'ya' as 'ja' and 'eo' as '^'. Unlike in revised romanization, it actually makes it more confusing. lol
Dang Su Seine Well, I know many English speakers are not familiar with IPA as can be seen from comments on this page. Big name online dictionaries like Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster.com for example use their own English-centric system instead of IPA. And romanization is just a crude approximation of the sounds designed for people who don't know (and don't want to learn) the language. For people seriously learning the language, there has to be a system to represent the phonetics accurately. IPA makes sense for this purpose because it is intended to cover all sounds in all languages, not just those found in English. Since Korean is not a English-derived language, it's bound to have many sounds that cannot be described using English (or even Romanic) symbols. IPA is big and difficult to learn, with all those unfamilar symbols, but there doesn't seem to be a better way at the moment.
The fact that I can read and write korean but after watching this I become so confused on its pronunciation lmao HAHAHAHAHAHHA just here because I got bored w/ this quarantine stuff going around 😂
Well i love bts and thought lets just learn korean so i will not have to search for eng subs . Thnku soo much i havr just started now and i hope i will learn it nicely . By the way i love how she says 'okay ' so calmly

her voice is so calming ^3^
True
I really liked this lesson. I’ve been looking for more detailed lessons that explain each letter and specially sound and so far this has been the best, so thank you for taking the time to teach this beautiful language
Am actually Somali but I like to learn Korean, Chinese, Japanese i like Asian languages
Thinking of studying Korean as my fourth language. Jenny does an excellent job in explaining and you can see her mouth very clearly as she makes the sounds.
Who is here because they are crazy of Kdramas? ^_^
Meeeeeeeee
Don't you find it silly? The reason of learning a new language is because of dramas.. he he
ka totoy ✋me
Newby me!!!!!
Of course it's because of kdramas.
Is it weird that I can pronouce the words in my head but not when I say them out loud? Ugh, I have a loooooong way to go.
pronounce*
I'm the same! I suppose it's just practicing the sounds over and over ahaha
Same
I dont think that feeling goes away very easily lol I've been learning for about 5 years and I still experience the feeling you describe. Especially as you get accustomed to hearing correct pronunciation, your muscle memory might sound off still. It's frustrating lol
same here😂😢😧
This is one pf the best language lesson videos on the internet. Incredible
I learned korean with her. Thank you Jenny!

Congratulations on your Korean class. You are one of the best explanatory teachers i have seen online. It is not easy for me to remember things, and with you, after repeating the again and again, i feel i can remember them more easily, and that makes a difference. Thank you once more, even after 10 years since you have made this video :)
Thank you very much. You're a good teacher I actually learned alot from this. I really want to learn a second language because I want my daughter to be bilingual, she's mixed with Asian so I want her to know an Asian language. I choose Korean because I love the dramas and songs and I hope she will when she's older, she's just a toddler now hopefully I'll learn alot in a year. I'm more motivated because I'm doing it for her
I'm learning Korean for educational purposes.

I first came here 11/15/2022 and this is my starting point trying to learn to read, write, and speak Hangeul, my 4th language (hopefully).
I have a fairly strong motivation to learn the language. Miss Jenny is the best one I’ve seen on RUclips so far, she makes the basic lessons seem easier. Thanks for this video Miss Jenny!
Studying this for Running Man and other KDramas!! Fighting!!

I tried different platforms to learn Korean but i think this one suits me the most.. thankyou Jenny for teaching in this easy way..❤️❤️ your videos are soo good and easy..
wait wait wait.... so you telling me you only need to memorize 40, but in japan you need to memorize over 2000. damnn.
there´s no way I'm ever gonna learn them both
in Japanese, if you learn them little by little, it becomes easier :). start from the most commonly used symbols to the least.
Sarah it is not so hard 2 memorise ... just pay attention... when I watched video 2 times ,I got it..
Yea.... after Korean, I want 2learn Japanese n then I will try D most difficult lang 4me Chinese's turn...

I love Korean language and kdramas ,Jenni was so sweet and teaching easy to learn korean
THIS is the kind of video you should be watching if you want to learn korean. learning the history and base of knowledge of the characters was one of the most important things for me when learning mandarin and this is so so helpful in terms of connecting everything together!!!
The lessons here are easier to understand than in my Duolingo. :) I'm very glad that I've found this channel :).
I just wanted to learn korean, I didn't expect to fall in love with the teacher too.

Trying to learn Korean as 4th language. I have dreams and I won't give up like I did in 2019... Fighting thanks so much Jenny!
Thank you for your lessons. I want to understand everything that J-Hope said💜
The way learning is processed in Seemile is really good and because their pronounciations are soft, slow & clear , it's easier and right way to understand. I am learning Korean simply due to curiosity (also for EXO and my dream destination for settlement is Korea) but now I really admire the language. Thanks to the teachers... Kamsahamnida!!😇😇
Omg I'm too an Exo-L
I love it how she says "ok" after each explanation :)
exactly lol
My wife taught me how to write, read and a small amount of phrases. She from South Korea and we married but I didn't knew a thing back then.
After 3 years married we spoke about the importance of our children learn both mine and my wife's mother language so I need to learn as much as I can of Korean in 9 months.
I'll start with your course, Jenny, and after I finish I intend to come back here and show how much I was able to learn.
I'm here again 😂 before 2019 ends I need to learn korean at least 😭 for kdramas and BTS 🤧💗
For the love of BTS 💜 but I swear pronunciation has made my mouth go north west 🤣🤣

Today... TODAY WE FIGHT! Not Not Today xd
All the underdogs in the world. A day may come when we lose. But it is not today. Cause today we will fight.
Specifically for talking with BTS, I love that.
It's charming the way she says "kay" all the time.
So, ipa is actually a general form for all languages, right?
Dang Su Seine Yeah, they define all sounds of all languages, so it gets to be huge and use lots of uncommmon symbols :)
What's even more interesting to notice is that even though the video is 7 years old, the comments are recent 😄
because of BTS 😂 sad but true
2020
Korean is so interesting. Hope everyone will be able to speak Korean eventually. Wish you guys great success in your studies
The fact that I can read and write korean but after watching this I become so confused on its pronunciation lmao HAHAHAHAHAHHA just here because I got bored w/ this quarantine stuff going around 😂
hahaha! same here! pronunciation is harder than to write!
🌝Let's enjoy the learning journey! 같이해요~!
Thank you so much Ma'am for so wonderfully explaining Hangul. I am a Hangul fan from Northeast India
