    If they were not so bloody crowded they would not get so stressed that they chew each other's tails!

    • @VixenAurora
      @VixenAurora 7 лет назад +2

      Exactly!
      Pigs in sanctuaries are treated with respect and the pigs don't keep chewing on each other, because they're not in extremely stressful crowded conditions in a barren cage with nothing else to do!

    I am definitly for pasturized pigs!! They are happy they can root in the ground, roll in the mud eat everything they find, have daylight and fresh air!
    They are much more healthy need no medication ! In short get rid of these terrible large barns!! let the piggies out they are beautiful very sensitiv animals who deserve a good live!!

    18-21 days old, that is insane. I raise hogs and I would never consider weaning that early. I guess that is industrial farming vs someone like me who raises heritage breed hogs. I wean at 8 weeks old, they have access to pasture. I give them the best life they can have until slaughter. If they had their tails, you would know how they felt by their tail. I do not dock tails and I have zero issues with tail biting and infection. If their tails are strait there is something wrong, if it's curly, they are happy.

  • @caponsacchi
    @caponsacchi 11 лет назад +2

    There are lots of videos on youtube of "pasture pigs" playing together, taking turns wallowing (and sliding) down a mountain stream, and some make nice "pets" (no, they're not potbellies) for people with the land and resources. I guess we can be grateful the pigs in the video are more clean and healthy than many we eat. And although pigs are thinking, feeling beings, each unique, there are no longer enough predators to keep them in check without human consumers. They would root away all grass.

    Keep them healthy so u can eat them right. all living beings feel PAIN and fear death. With all that corn and grains we can help world hunger.

    • @speedstacker51
      @speedstacker51 10 лет назад +1

      We can't really say that they feel pain and emotion, we aren't in their heads. But I personally believe they do feel emotion but we can't say that for certain.

    • @keithlange2573
      @keithlange2573 9 лет назад +1

      angelswave88 Maybe simple emotions, such as fear which is a survival mechanism. They're prey animals, so something like that is to be expected. I have heard it said that they're brains are not all that big...about the size of a tea cup, and they're largely devoted to simple functions such as smell.

    • @andreajara8018
      @andreajara8018 8 лет назад +3

      +angelswave88 of course they feel fear...all animals are afraid to die just like you and me. In slaughterhouses they feel fear because they know what's going to happen to them. They see other pigs being hung upside down with a knife slicing their neck. They are afraid. In this case the baby pigs are in a pen and being treated which is very good. But I'm going to have to disagree with the woman that said that they're purpose is to feed humans. If you think about it, pigs, like all the animals in the world have a purpose. Unlike humans. If humans were removed from the earth it would benefit all the other species of the world. I don't know why humans think that we are so special and think that other animals have a "purpose" to feed us and give us clothes, when we are the least special species in the planet.
      I'm sorry but that is very stupid.

    • @keithlange2573
      @keithlange2573 8 лет назад

      >They see other pigs being hung upside down with a knife slicing their neck.
      Not to sound cold hearted, but do they know what that means? Also, with all due respect, animals kill and eat other animals all the time.

    • @andreajara8018
      @andreajara8018 8 лет назад +3

      Yea, actually they do. Pigs are one of the smartest animals. Besides they are classified as a prey animal. So if they know that they have to run away from a wolf or tiger in order to not be eaten then they will know that what they are doing to those other pigs is bad, and that soon it will happen to them too. Also, as they are being hung upside down, the pig that is being hung screams in fear and pain, so if the pigs do not understands by seeing, then they will understand it by the screams.
      As I mentioned in my previous response, we are not carnivores. We have 0 carnivorous instincts and we shouldn't compare ourselves to them because we only choose to copy one behavior from them which is eating meat. However, lions and wolves and tigers also sleep naked, kill their cubs sometimes for food, etc.

  • @louisemrushton
    @louisemrushton 11 лет назад +2

    What do the pigs do all day? Surely they must get really bored, is that why they bite each others tails (which is why you said you dock them)? Whilst it all looks clean, naturally pigs like to root about, wouldn't it be better if they had some straw? I've seen in other places that balls can be put in the pens for them to play with.

  • @beaelliott
    @beaelliott 11 лет назад +2

    Seems like such an enormous waste.I know human families that don't keep their homes at 75 degrees for the cost and fuel consumption issues.Poor pigs with no straw.Nothing to play with!I can't imagine cutting off their tails without pain relief!Is that really the best that can be done for these intelligent, sensitive beings that are being bred just to be killed?
    Perhaps a fruit/vegetable greenhouse where every pig "barn" is might be the solution? After all-Those foods are also better for health.

  • @caponsacchi
    @caponsacchi 11 лет назад +2

    Are these pigs any less intelligent, less sensitive, less needy that potbelly and Juliana "pets"? From what I've seen they're individuals, just like "mini-pigs," and have just as much potential to learn tricks, etc., in exchange for food. Or to roam, graze, and root on green pasture to their hearts' content. Given a choice, they'd be playing, running, wallowing and wagging their tails in joy.

    "Not pets." Not exactly true. They're complex animals with needs beyond most pet owners' abilities to satsify. Pigs have a herd complex, an insatiable appetite, and a love of roaming, grazing, rooting, playing vs. humans' insistence on a pet that's obedient, agreeable, and under 50 lbs. But the person who can deal with their "animal" needs can, as I've seen personally, enjoy a loving, special relationship with a smart, "conversational," very train-able (if huge) animal, who, if given the choice, usually chooses to spend more time in the house, sleeping on couches and underneath warm, soft blankets than outside in the cold, damp grass or mud.
    Moreover, each pig is an "individual" with his or her peculiar quirks, moods, sensitivities. (That's not being sentimental - that's fact. Look at some of the videos of livestock pigs taking turns using a high dive over a lake or taking turns to slide down a mountain stream, then back up the hill, get in line, and do it all over again. They're problem-solvers, with an uncanny sense of the future (the reason they squeal when lifted). Moreover, they helo solve medical problems--look at some of these pink naked creatures lying on a surgical table while surgeons and medical students are "looking into" things. It's all on RUclips.
    (And contrary to the vet's assertion about squealing, if you earn their trust, they'll be lifted up and like it! All it takes is several days of 30-second lifts, along with treats as soon as it stops squealing. But never ever reward bad behavior!. Endure its squealing (ear protectors are a good idea), and give it a treat or release it only when it's quiet. Piggy will soon learn to equate silence with a reward. (Don't be surprised if he asks you for a lift each time he sees you.)

      True true true true true. As a studying vet I hate seeing members of the same field say such ignorant comments, many vets should stick to just treating health problems (even then most can fuck up). The only time you should open your mouth is when you have researched the topic and never speak from experience (that is if your someone in authority as many people will believe you and not the people who did the research)My personal vet knows less about raw feeding and care for food allergies than me; he knows little about dietary needs and has the false assumption that only dogs and cats make good indoor pets. and may I say I havent even began college yet Im still in my final year of highschool; which means I'm going into college knowing many behavioral and dietary issues that most vets wont ever learn.

    why didnt you talk about the practice of taking their teeth out with no anesthesia? - like the tails. it is not justifyed- honestly it is monstruous. i appreciate the condition and work you do, though. one of the best i've seen. still bad though, sadly. it's so difficult! i would love pig meat, because i was raised eting meat, but what they do in farms and just killing a live being it's unacceptable. really life is so precious. there is the moment of transition from life to death that is terrible, seems such a waste, it's like a magic that goes wasted, it's incredible. animals have so much to offer more than food, in this psichologically damaged society... they could give us so much love.. if we had another method, another way to live in harmony.. i dont think we are appreciating enough the sacrifice of these beings. their emotions, their life.

    I love how people are starting to care for theses pigs how they look after them and give them great homes.' It makes me sad to think the poor creatures of such kind like pigs are being killed for food like bacon and pork though most people kill them after giving them a nice home :(
    Pigs are my favorit animal and I don't wont to risk them getting extinct because we're going to make them endangered if we don't stop killing them for there meat there are heaps of other animals we can eat like chickens. would it hurt to save one inascent specie I would do anything to stop people from killing them.
    Over 2,000 poor species of animals have been hunted down for there meat there fear and much more. There are now only 2 types of elephants left and if we're not carefull in the next 99 to 200 yeahs they will be gone for good.
    Australia, New Zealand , Africa
    Every were in the would is doing it China, Queensland, it's being done as I speak right now.
    Poor elephants getting killed for there tasks we use them for piano keys. We're cutting down there forest poor tigers are losing there family. Imagine if u lost your mum or dad how would u feel, horrible? well that is how they feel. And other animals like turtles, WERE KILLING THEM !!!! And half the world is not doing anything. My pa , nanna and there friends are doing things about this they are taking all the rubbish out of lakes they are giving food to the fish and ducks and frogs to make sure they get what they need.
    Every day! And lucky we have pick up rubbish day were every one in the world picks up rubbish which is helping alot now.
    All I ask is for the world to be more careful of what there doing poor animals are dieing because of us every time someone drops rubbish , dumps oil in the water
    Or eats meat they have just done something that has made a animal suffer something that is the reason why such animals are existent.
    If only there were more people like us in the world :( .

      Pigs are the 2nd most popular livestock animal next to chickens. Even then, there's so many of them running rampant in Texas and Georgia and Hawaii. If you honestly think that pigs are going to become extinct then you're a fool.

    • @4miyahart
      @4miyahart 10 лет назад

      The Lincolnshire curly-coat,Small Black, Small White Yorkshire,Blue and White Yorkshire, and the Cumberland are already extinct.All but one became extinct in the 60's and 70's. These are just the ones I can remember.Pigs as a whole will not likely become extinct,but specific breeds,absolutely.Many are already on the endangered species list. However,on the flip side of that, the only way to save a species from extinction is to create a demand for that breed..That demand comes in the form of food for the consumer, not pets.Very few people want to keep there small pigs as pets much less a full grown hog. Pigs are truly born into a no win situation.So I try really hard never to judge anyone but for me and my pig,the day I eat him is the day he will grow wings and fly.

    While you stage "handling them nicely" you forgot about the guy in the background who isn't in character and is just flailing the babies around by their legs like they usually do. Woops!
    You can see how clearly TERRIFIED they are of humans. They have had very bad experiences with humans. Animals in sanctuaries don't act like this except just after they've been rescued from farms. It's sad how many people you fool when it's so obvious that they don't want to be harmed!
