    Nice work !! I'm a Kirkbymoorside lad and recall, back in the late 40's taking our pig in a crate on wheels down street to Manor Vale so I grew up familiar with the whole process. At first I thought you were up behind the town near Gillamoor or Fadmoor, but you must be a bit further away as it wouldn't take that long to get to Malton. My ancestors used to operate both Yoadwath and Helmsley mills.

    Love this. I have raised a lot of pigs, 2 at a time for food. Always welfare, nutrition and comfort were my goals. What cage pigs do not get is 'comfort', intellectual comfort. Let pigs be pigs. If I lived near yorkshire, I would reach into a truck and paint my phone number on an animal and wait at the end of the slaughterhouse and take the carcase home.

    Anyone watching this and are raising pigs and don't know; ferment their feed with yeast, apple cider vinegar mother and kefir to prevent enteric problems. Also makes the meal more digestible to the pigs meaning you get more growth for less feed. I do it and and I've had no issues with having to give my pigs antibiotics.
    Also acidify water with apple cider vinegar as they do in this video.

    Iv just started working on a 700 sow farm that are all indoors its very different than outdoor pig farming the food that we put into our pigs is unbelievable, people wouldn't think theyr fed so we'll, we mix, soya, salmon oil, sugar, salt, peas, liquid patato, liquid whey, wheat, barley, and more, piglets get the best milk powder and much more, iv always worked on farms but not with pigs until now but it's goin good, love to work try an outdoor pig farm

    I adore this set-up. No animals stressed, didn't see an 'annoyed animal'. Amazing. the only thing I could do better was give my pig an apple and when it looked down I could shoot it. No Stress... I dont like killing per se. I did those pigs justice, no stress and I didnt waste any. That to me is ethical. If this yorkshire farm had an abbatoir or was next door.....even better.. Cheers and keep up the good work...

    • @randysheckler763
      @randysheckler763 Год назад

      I've heard in Europe they butcher their hogs at 180 pounds, about 4.5 months of age. The 2 benefits of such a young slaughter weight is it's before sexual maturity, so secondary sex characteristics such as boar taint don't affect the animal, and they're butchered at the top of their feed conversion rate.
      That's how I understand it anyway. I'm in the US and I cut my males about at about 2-3 weeks of age and butcher at 6-7 months and 250-300 pounds like just about everybody else in the US does.

    So this is how they do it in England? Definitely not as bad as many high production cruel pig farmers do it. But, I don't know if words like fantastic and superb would be words I'd use to describe it. Above average and humane is what it use. I do know I wouldn't eat processed grains nor would I want to eat meat raised on processed anything. But that's just me. Many people don't mind that type of food. Maybe neither way is best or healthiest for a long fruitful, active and cancer free life. I can say that if I wouldn't want myself or pet or animal that I purchased to be raised and fed in this manner, I wouldn't purchase them either. Thanks for sharing. I do like to know what my options are, good or bad.

    • @pictlandpickers1171

      What do you mean by processed? This is the best standard for a commercial farm in the world.

    • @jakestanier3951
      @jakestanier3951 2 года назад

      The grains are now processed I'm basic terms the different feed rations are mixed and compressed into pellets to ensure each animal gets the right balance after each food. Feed everything separate and some pigs will eat all of one thing and nothing of another for example

    Why does anyone need those horrible cages? These farms seem so upbeat and jolly, the pigs are happy, have freedom. Farmers that are choosing to use crates need to see this and see how much better life can be for these pigs.
