    That heavy bell must have good bearings so the little bit of energy he's able to impart on each pull isn't lost, and slowly accumulates until the bell swings all the way around. And it's amazing how he keeps the rope so straight even when pulling so hard over such a long distance. I imagine if he didn't keep so perfectly straight, the rope would wiggle and fly all over the place.

    Very good, I rung up the tenor at St. Patrick's Cathedral Dublin myself on Remembrance Day, took 6 minutes to raise it... and an extra 4 to stand it ;-;

      Isn't Ireland a catholic country? I thought change ringing is exclusive for anglican church. Am I wrong?

    What it is to be young! Last time I tried something like that, I rang the tenor at St Paul's up single handed, and was pretty knackered by the time i'd got it up! Well done Luke!

    Dang that bell seemed heavy. Not usually a tenor bell would take this long to be rung up but apparently this one. Plus the sally seems so long and purple like it!

    that is a mathom effort, it would have killed me all 82 cwt. Pity the bells dont sound good In the tower, way to big a belfry and sound waves bouncing all over the place. They reckon the best place to hear them is Birkenhead.

    one downside of the mechanics of bellringing is that no matter how strong you are the force you apply is limited by your own weight.... unless you have bicycle clips bolted to the floor ;)

      Not quite, you can pull more than your weight and accelerate yourself upwards.

    • @jenlfpotter3870

      George Pietersen there's a sock on the clapper, for want of a better name for it, to stop the clapper coming into contact with the insides of the tenor, which makes a lovely booming A minor chord type sound, so I don't know why it wasn't sounding on this occasion.

      @@jenlfpotter3870 bigger bells go up wrong like the tenor of Maidstone the tenor of Liverpool is too big it's like around 86cwt so that's why tied the clappet

    • @2fr56
      @2fr56 Год назад

      Probably for silent practice. They took out the clapper so the bell won’t make any noise. Except for the fact that sounds like someone banging hammers on wood up there. But still makes the bell rope and sally functional. Don’t know exactly why they took out the clapper. Prob for practice

  • @JointedStudios
    @JointedStudios 2 года назад

    4 Ton is enough for a ringer. Also why do the bells always have their clapper held instead of being rung at this cathedral on practice or ringing up, down?

  • @christianong3703
