I hoped you'd mention the 'Wrath of Khan' goof. When discovered by Terrell and Chekov Khan says to Chekov, "... I never forget a face... Mr Chekov!". But 'Space Seed' where we first meet Khan was Season 1 Ep 22. Chekov joined the show in season 2 therefor they'd never met.

Of course, but Khan's knowledge of Starships was several years out of date! How did he, Joachim and that Chick at navigation have any idea how to pilot the newer generation of starships!? Also they only showed a handful of Khan's people. It would take a lot more than 10 -15 people to run a Miranda Class Vessel! Someone has to be in Engineering! Once again, how would that person know how to operate the Engineering section?

@@spaceace1006 Kahn and his followers were far superior to mere humans and no doubt was able to understand the workings of a Miranda class frigate in only a fraction of the time it would take for a normal starship crew to do. Also being physically superior it’s no doubt that Kahn’s people could operate a starship much more efficient than a full compliment of a ships crew….in the original episode Space Seed look how long it took him to commandeer the Enterprise.

So let's pretend we're Harve Bennet for a moment. We have been tasked with watching all 3 seasons of TOS to come up with a motion picture sequel. Obviously, he found the absolute perfect episode to do a sequel with which had both a fantastic story, interesting characters, and star power with Riccardo Montalban. Now let's pretend TWOK didn't happen because of various reasons.
What would be the next best TOS episode to make a motion picture sequel with? I already have my pick which would be "Assignment Earth." Imagine the return of both Gary Seven together with Roberta Lincoln to avert yet another crucial point in Earth's history. Seven seeks out Kirk and the Enterprise being they already know of Seven's existence.
We can come up with literally hundreds of scenarios that would require the attention of Gary Seven. Mabe a combined effort by the Romulans and Klingons to go back in Earth's past to change its future? Such a movie would have present-day fleet battles with the Romulans and Klingons, then time travel with Seven and Roberta to undo whatever they did to change history???? I think it would have made an excellent motion picture 😁. What TOS episode would you choose?

All pop culture sucks on some level and that's okay. It's also okay to enjoy it. Stop feasting on nostalgia and just relax. It's all just pretend, so we all as fans need to stop acting like it's such a big thing when things change, because look what happens when they don't change and take risks. You get Star Trek The Motion Picture.
As an episode with it would have been fine as have many of the less exciting episodes of any Trek series, but that shit was the worst idea for a movie, let alone the first. Wrath of Khan would have been the perfect opener. Action packed, tense and still cerebral, exactly like the best, most memorable episode of TOS.
First Contact is the best TNG movie for the same reasons. They gave us all the best flavours of TNG in one intense movie, with some of the best character development in the enter TNG era and it had the fuckin' Borg. I love TNG but I can't even watch Encounter at Farpoint because even though it's Q's intro, it's a 40 minute TOS-esque story over almost 2 hours and that's too long 😂
The 1st and 3rd Kelvin TL movies are great alternate timeline action movies with original plots and gave us heightened new takes on the characters, but, STID shouldn't have had Khan as the villain, regardless of leaning on nostalgia and doing it wrong, but because making it a separate thing was a great move and a way to separate from TOS while potentially giving the general audience a great, fun, intro to the Universe

Regarding the new ST Strange New Worlds -- Before everyone freaks out I want to say I like the show, especially the first away mission of Uhura, that was great writing.
I do take issue with Pike's suite and fireplace ( seriously?) and Nurse Chapel is horrible. But that and other issues aside there is one serious flaw that no one seems to notice.
Christina Chong as La'an Noonien-Singh,La'an............the character is a descendant of Ricardo Montalbán's Star Trek villain Khan Noonien Singh, and has been discriminated against because of this ...........serving on a ship with Spock??
who in 5-10 years will meet Khan and not know who he is???........seriously?? .........the entire story line of Khan is that when found no one, not Nurse Chapel, not Spock, who served with Pike, knew who Khan was or ever heard of him...........until Spock did heavy research and finally found out, this was poor planning and writing
they could have done much better, they could have made her Ryker's future mom, etc etc etc
they blew it one== they meet Khan serving with Kirk, after serving with Pike, Uhura, Chapel and Spock have no idea who he is???

The latest episode of SNW hints towards it with certain parties interfering pushing back the date of Khan's rise by 30 years, so maybe in the Original Series that was the case for Khan and the TOS crew, but with so much time travel based interference happening in the franchise since (TV shows, Movies, Books, even Star Trek Online have countless events) it's logical that though certain events still occur to keep the core of the Prime timeline whole (thanks to certain other more noble parties from the future), that changes will not go unnoticed by history and would change the past either way, including events that we have seen and are 'canon'.
The instant they bought time travel in in TOS, they gave license for everything canon to be changed and retconned and it makes sense, regardless of how anyone feels about it really. Might seem cheap or whatever, but the loose rules of ST timetravel make it fair game

      @JacobKarr 11 месяцев назад +1

@@homelessend8557 okay, I just read it and I get his reason for doing it, but I also think my reasoning makes more sense than 'we did it because we could' 🤣.
Even excluding the non tv shows and movies, there's still plenty of time travel that would alter things enough, regardless of the intentions of Time agencies trying to keep things the same, Choas theory loosely dictates that once you go back you've changed history, especially when you start removing people from the past via killing or taking them to the future.
Still, I don't take the franchise too seriously as it's on par with Doctor Who but with a slightly bigger budget. I love SNW and will just enjoy the ride, regardless of retcons

Kirk was the GOAT of starship commanders, but his open willingness to allow Khan unfettered access to the Enterprise's technology and computer systems was naive, foolish, reckless, an incredibly grave lapse in judgement, and an egregious breach of security protocols.....which if you consider the butterfly effect, ultimately led to the death of Spock fifteen years later.
