  • The Nokia G22 is a budget smartphone with a difference -- and that difference is that it's a phone that HMD Global actively promotes as being repairable by consumers. That's a laudable green step, but is this a notable phone?

To be honest I see this phone get alot of hate but personally I don't understand, this isn't a phone that's meant to be compared to others and especially if you are are used to flagship phones from Apple and Samsung, this is a cheap mobile that doesn't burn a hole in ya pockets and offers repairability simple enough that you. An do at home,I have just bought this mobile for my wife who had carpel tunnel syndrome in both her hands and does have a tendency of dropping her phones quite often, this mobile offers cheap parts so charger port back plate, battery which is good considering batteries can start to fail and not charge as well after 2-4 years and above all offers replacement screens at a very cheap price.
This is perfect for people who aren't bothered about what other people care about and aren't bothered about the same boring lame flagships we have seen for many years now offering the same old shite.

That Nokia G22 has fallen in price here in the UK. In July '24 it's retailing for under GBP 100. HMD must be clearing Nokia stock to make way for its own brandecd phones.

I've got the Nokia G22 in the So Peach colourway-very happy with mine.
Using a 20W Cygnet PD or Antsig charger to juice up my G22.

Most of us couldn't give a hoot about recycling.
The packaging burns so that is ok.

SIM cards ?, you didn't say whether it takes TWO SIMS & an SD card, or just one SIM & and sd card !

I did not, my apologies. To complicate matters, it seems to depend on where you are globally (and I don't have the review model any more). The official model sold here in Australia should be dual SIM (1x Nano SIM plus either a secondary SIM or microSD), but some global models (and possibly telco ones) are single SIM. AFAIK, HMD didn't make a dual SIM plus microSD variant of the G22.

I think I might get this on Nokia’s leasing program. £9 a month for a year and then i’ll look at something else again

There is a EU mandate coming, regarding ability of battery replacement by user. My guess is sealed for (death) life phone market will plummet and makers will be desperate to shift them.

I wish all the company can do something similar. I tired to buy many phones due the features as 5G.

@@kosztaz87 Back camera and selfie camera daylight photography are good. Portrait photos are poor. Night photography is poor. The processor is slow. HMD should focus on competing with other brands rather than focusing on only building a sturdy phone.
