      Lmao, that’s a good one omg! Even I can’t pick up cranberry sauce with chopsticks🤣🤣🤣 mash potato is the max i can do and it also depends on the texture too😂 let’s stick with spoon on that next year lol poor kids( def fun to watch tho)

    This has good description / explanation & visuals. Im practicing with 1/4" diameter x 12" long unfinished dowel sticks. Therefore easier to hold non slip and practice practice practice

    • @ericayeahtw
      @ericayeahtw  9 месяцев назад +1

      Wow, you put a lot of thought into this! i love it! I can see you master it very soon!
      When you feel comfortable about these dowel sticks, you can start practicing with reusable wooden chopsticks. they are also easy to grab and use, not slippery, but shape more like a chopstick (with one end thinner than the other end) lmk how it goes~

    Man, I’m Mexican through and through, and since I was little and I loved Chinese food my mom took me to Chinese restaurants and one time a really nice lady taught me how to eat with chopsticks. Now I’m an adult on my own, I got forks and spoons but most of my flatware is chopsticks. They’re easier to clean, store, and it always shocks people how easily I eat with them when I invite people over

    But the strength might take a little practice - Yes ma'am. Learnt it, then got sick for a month after that and lost all my strength. Tried eating again with the chopsticks and it took some getting used to cuz I had no strength in me and I kept dropping the food or they would get twisted... This is after perfecting it... So, yeah, needs constant practice and brushing up the skill/leveling up... To heavier foods for finger strength and dexterity. 🙏🏻

    I’ve been using chopsticks since I was a kid, but no one ever taught me to use them. I hold my chopsticks basically this way, but resting on my middle finger instead of my ring finger. I mean, it works the same, just slightly different. Although, I don’t know if this would be considered a so faux pas not. Benefits to using chopsticks in America I suppose.

      It might be your muscle getting tired, it's like a workout, the more you use it, the less you feel the pain.
      but also, there's a option of finding lighter chopsticks say Chinese wooden chopsticks are lighter then Korean metal chopsticks. chopsticks with grids on the tips(so the food don't slide as easily) can also help release some tension on the grip. let me know how it goes

    “It doesn’t matter how you hold your chopsticks”
    It really shouldn’t but my partner is Chinese, and despite how wrong it sounds, there are a lot of her family’s side that judge you for the most minuscule of things such as this….
    So I have to learn certain ways of holding!!

    • @ericayeahtw

      Most of these judgemental behaviors came from insecurity and ignorance, I hope at least your partner is on your side cuz I know sometimes Chinese family culture can be a bit intense

      @@ericayeahtw My partner says the same things you say - it doesn’t matter.
      A comment I received for the way I hold my chopsticks was “This is how a rich person holds their chopsticks” as I was pointed at in front of multiple members of the family, some people laughed and some people looked awkwardly at each other and then at me. The vibe became uncomfortable after that remark but whatever, the night continues.

    I struggle with making the tips meet, and have to slide the fingers down because if the chopsticks go against the top part of my nail it hurts
    Tips?

    • @ericayeahtw
      @ericayeahtw  Год назад

      Great question! and here's what I think
      first of all, it is ok to hold on to any part of the chopsticks with your hand, everyone have their own preference, and we actually have a myth that says the further away you hold your chopsticks from the tip, the further away you're going to be married to... I hold pretty far away from the tip in that video, and I'm married to the other side of the world lmao. guess the myth is real lol
      but back to your question, I need to know which finger of yours hurt? do you got long nails that's preventing you from holding it?

    • @ericayeahtw
      @ericayeahtw  Год назад

      People do experience mild pain sometimes holding chopsticks, it can be the material of the chopsticks, the lack of strength in those finger muscles (since we barely hold anything else like that)
      I wonder if you feel similarly as when I have to write with a pan for more than 4 hours, the skin on the first joint of my middle finger starts to irritate me(cuz the pan rests on top of it when I write). Still, I never feel that when I was in school, so I believe it's a temporary irritation due to sensitive skin just because I don't use that part of my body like that enough anymore being 30 years old and I only text for almost everything for the past 8 years(extra strong tip of fingers lol).
      Hope it makes sense, but lmk if I misunderstand your question, please!

    • @oj7177
      @oj7177 Год назад +1

      @@ericayeahtw i try to hold it as far from the tips as possible because i don't want to get dirty trying to pick the food. I will had some extenders to my chopsticks so i will be married for longer, they are going to be 50 cm long minimum hahah
      My middle finger hurts it i don't slide it down, and same for my ring finger. My chopsticks are the chinese ones iirc the name, squared at the top and progressively become round and they are in some metal (bought them in korea). I don't have long nails
      When i write for long i get a huge dent on my middle finger but no irritation or real pain. Meanwhile with the chopsticks i can feel the edge of it pressuring so much on that part. I heard other people saying that rookies get some pain but then goes away with time
      I also have some cramps, the muscle where my thumb connects to the hand hurts, and the one on the right side of the hand (right hand), below the pinky finger, hurts as well.
      But it looks like i found some adjustments that make the pain go away and the tips meet, but i don't have strength, and the chopstick slides off the ring finger quite often
      I can pick light objects quite easily, but when something is heavier the chopstick starts to slide

    • @ericayeahtw
      @ericayeahtw  Год назад +1

      @@oj7177 oh yeah! So the ferther away you hold it the harder you need to pinch, just get closer it’s fine, and pick up less per time so you don’t dip in the finger
